NAME: Dr. Koadron Selefrion
FACTION: None at the moment, applying to CARD
RANK: See Faction
SPECIES: Kortan
AGE: 27
GENDER: Male
HEIGHT: 7’
WEIGHT: 250lb
EYES: Artificial, solid black and non-reflective with semi visible red ‘veins’ underneath
HAIR: Grey
SKIN: Pale with a hint of pinkness
CREDITS: 1000
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: See Eyes
FORCE SENSITIVE: No

STRENGTH: Dr. Selefrion is slightly stronger than average and has devoted no effort to changing that. He can beat most of his colleagues at arm wrestling if he did such things but would be an easy loss to anyone used to physical work.
DEXTERITY: He is not particularly dexterous, and even when young could never quite touch his toes.
CONSTITUTION: Koadron doesn’t usually get sick. He has a great immune system when it comes to avoiding those annoying ailments like the yearly flue. Against truly dangerous or exotic infections or diseases he is just as susceptible as the next human.
INTELLIGENCE: Dr. Selefrion is one of those intellects that comes along only once in several generations. He possesses near perfect three dimensional reasoning and special visualization abilities and can reportedly hold the complete plans for a cruiser in his head at once. He has memorized several seminal texts in physics, philosophy, history, and religion though he will be the first to admit he read them several times first. What most sets him apart is his imagination. He is not artistic or fanciful, but he can make connections between disparate pieces of data much more quickly than most of his peers.
WISDOM: Koadron is perceptive, but focused. He can spot even the smallest details of what he is interested in, but is for the most part oblivious to the world around him in more than a general sense. He is very quickly able to work out the consequences of his actions, but is also very good at rationalizing questionable activities.
CHARISMA: Dr. Selefrion is, to be blunt, hard to get along with. He expects people around him to always have what he needs, be it a skill or a tidbit of information. He expects perfection in himself and others and is not shy about pointing out the flaws in things other people do. Some people respect his honesty, but a lot of people find him hurtful. He can tone it down in front of superior but it rankles him.

FORCE POWERS:
N/A

SKILLS:
Dr. Selefrion is very good at thinking inside the box. That may sound like a strange thing to boast of, but few people realize just how expansive the box is. Often times the solution has already been worked out if you are willing to apply it to your situation. This isn’t to say he isn’t inventive, but that there is usually a clear connection to some reference. Or at least that is what he says, most of the things he references appear to have no relation to his solutions.

He is also very good at keeping complex details in his head. People may speak about the plans to a whole cruiser, but he finds webs of finance and political power to be just as suitable.

Finally, he is very good at doing things people do not expect. His parent culture is not yet fully integrated into galactic society but is fairly ancient in its own right. He and others of his kind still have mindsets slightly off from galactic norm meaning he sometimes sees the problem from a different perspective then his peers.

LIGHTSABER/SWORD FORMS:
N/A

STRENGTHS:
Good at cross disciplinary thinking, has a lot of innovative ideas, able to but reality and practice over theory, and able to produce results under budget and on schedule.

WEAKNESSES:
Very few ethical qualms, has never seen the results of military action up close and personal, little experience in the field, and not very good with people.

GEAR:
His current outfit, his credit chit, and a writing slate in case he has a new idea.

SHIP:
No Ships

PETS:
No Pets

PERSONALITY:
Dr. Koadron Selefrion likes to think of himself as complicated, but he really isn’t. He is driven, focused, and sometimes self-destructive in pursuit of his goals. Additionally, he is intolerant of views he disagrees with and can often come off as a bigot. Perhaps the worst part is that he doesn’t mean to be hurtful; he says the things he does because he believes that by making people understand what is wrong with them they can begin to improve. His personal ethical system combines deontological and utilitarian aspects. Within his system, your motives must be universalizable, but your action should be governed by its likely outcome.

He often feels isolated from people around him and doesn’t quite understand why. He expects people to be as brutally honest with him as he is with them and when they are not he feels as though they do not respect or value him enough to help him become a better person. He also dislikes it when people give opinions to him without proper reasoning behind them. To do something of that sort is worse than keeping silent, because even if correct it adds nothing. However, he has vowed to stay true to his principles even if he is surrounded by inequity and ignorance.

BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Koadron Selefrion was born on Velthrus Korta Enlypshi, the fifth planet of the second star of the system. Its position should make it an ice planet, and indeed it was throughout most of its history. Life developed first in the form of chemosynthetic organisms living in underground caverns where thermal vents supplied warmth and nutrients. The species that developed were large, hairy, and warm blooded. Though they resemble humans to some degree they share very little DNA in common.

The Kortans have excellent three dimensional visualization skills because they had to keep track of the convoluted and often shifting network of caverns they lived in. Their culture and religion placed supreme value on the geothermal vents which were the source of their food and warmth and the sun which served a similar purpose. Unlike most advanced species their religion stayed fairly homogenous as they developed technologically and persists to this day. Its basic features are a constant battle between good and evil, light and dark, order and entropy. They worship stars as the light bringers and orderers of the universe.

Before they were discovered by Republic expeditionary forces they had no Force sensitives but did have a place in their world view for a similar entity which the Force has filled. Under this view the Force, or Architect of Nature, is a sentient entity that serves as the personification of gravity. It ‘binds the galaxy together’ so as to prevent the loss of light, heat, and material to the endless darkness.

When they became an industrial species, using volatiles released by particular vents and other natural deposits, they began to release their industrial byproducts into the thin atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, methane, and similar gasses produced a green-house effect and over many centuries the planet was accidentally terraformed to support a more habitable environment. This flooded the caverns the Kortans had lived in but also provided them with a vast surface to inhabit. This even is referred to as, “The End of the Second Childhood” and is celebrated yearly in song and ritual. The planet was still chilly by most standards, but far more livable then previously.

When they developed space flight the Kortans discovered other inhabitable worlds in their system, including rocky worlds in orbit of the other two stars and moons of gas giants. In total nearly sixteen other life bearing bodies were to be found. Settlers departed Enlypshi enmass as soon as their technology as advanced enough to facilitate such moves. Each world developed its own unique culture. Enlypshi are known for their conservatives and focus on intellectual pursuits because their planet, while the home of the species, is inhospitable compared to the others they now occupy.

When the republic found the system there was a great deal of confusion as the natives considered it three separate star systems. Eventually the name Velthrus, the name of a shape depicting three arms grasped in mutual support, was added as a unifying element and the republic could deal with one entity. The Koadron family was Enlypshi’s representative to the system wide governing council. As such, the scion of house Koadron, along with the favored children of the other unifying houses, were guaranteed an excellent education in the greater galactic community.

Selefrion is a firm supporter of the Galactic Republic, as his family expects him to be, but feels that his personal talents are better spent elsewhere. When he was eighteen he began to attend university on Coruscant. He endured the personal humiliation of several years of remedial classes before he could join the rest of the students and even then he was always the oldest in his class by several years. In spite of this he finished and obtained two degrees, in theoretical physics and philosophy, in the standard number of years even including his remedial classes.

The fact of his graduation is especially remarkable given his, 'disadvantages'. Selefrion was born blind, lived for most of his life without sight, a mark of great social stigma among his people. It is caused by a mutation that developed among inhabitants of the lower caverns on Enlypshi where there was very little light. It is considered a mark of low breeding and of spiritual deprivation. Since stars are the source of order and life being unable to observe them prevents their light from illuminating a soul. Those born blind are said to be, "seers of darkness" and for many years it was believed they were able to see the darkness where there was no light, including within a soul and thus were exposed to the Endless Dark. This later just proved to be increased reliance on hearing.

Contact with the Republic granted the Kortans access to the advanced medical technologies of the galaxy. The tens of millions of people who lived with the conditions could at last be treated, though religious prohibition mandated that all replacement eyes be made black so as to make obvious the status of those who bore them.

Since then, he has worked in various places before applying to CARD. He was a librarian of the vast personal collection of Heodrin P’Tor, a wealthy heir on Coruscant. He has also worked a personal tutor for the children of wealthy parents and even a restaurant server, though that job didn’t last long. When people ask him why he doesn’t just return home, he is disinclined to answer. The truth is that he is ashamed of how backwards his people are and would no longer feel comfortable with his families conservative views and is still considered a child by the standards of his race.

The Velthrus system is presently involved in a breakneck program of industrialization and modernization to bring the security and standard of living the rest of the galaxy enjoys to the 5.8 trillion Kortans. To finance this project they have already sold off a great deal of the confirmed mineral deposits in their system, entered into unequal contracts with major corporations, and even sold convicts into indentured servitude. The Koadron family has tried to block almost all of these moves and has very little power in council currently.

While he has published little since his graduation his work has been highly regarded in both of his fields, even when it was the same paper published. His work on the philosophy of science and his critiques of the scientific method were well received if still somewhat obscure. He has recently applied to a vacant post as a military researcher at CARD and hopes that the position will fuel his rise to prominence and allow him to better serve his system and his people.
