ILUM: THE SACELLUM OF THE SITH
1000 Hours

@EmilyHuene ; @One For Sorrow
[/fancybox2]

Ilum's icy temperament makes travelling to the Sacellum difficult on foot. Ships can land nearby though not directly near the temple itself which has been carved into the foot of one of its many glacial landscapes. Those familiar with its location have been granted access to its Secret Hangar which is also carefully constructed in the mountain side. Built with the finest Imperial design available, this temple is a glorious tribute to the Empire and all those under her command.

There are two parts to the Sacellum's inner halls: the temple itself and the inner sanctum. At the front of the temple's main hall stands its holy altar where the Head Priestess would bless and give communion to her followers. The long narrow halls of the temple work as tunnels in the cavern's of Ilum. There are many corridors that lead all the up into to the peak of the mountain where it is coldest. There are many private inner chambers in which one can pray, whereas one might simply wish to sit in the halls and stare at the beauty of the inner caverns.

One of these inner chambers is where Eriana Fox, The Confessor and head matron of the Sacellum, had taken her new apprentice. Unlike her usual attire of Sith robes and armor, she was wearing barely anything. Deciding that the two of them would be training today, she'd taken to putting on nothing more than a black tank top and pleather leggings though the pants were not all that different from the ones of her armor; they were simply made of a shiny material that only served to protect her from the cold. Though, in this temperature -even with the minimal heating from the furnaces- it was astounding how she was not shivering to the core. That was a scary thing about Eriana: she never seemed cold. Even when she plunged herself into the frozen waters in the lake under the temple.

Although Eriana was not wearing it currently, she had brought her white cloak with her which was now folded on a small, wooden, wicker table by the door. Over the top of them were her curved lightsaber hilts that never left her side no matter what. It wasn't so much a fear of being attacked (although that was always on her mind) she simply couldn't bare to be away from them for they were basically a part of her, as they always have been. Any other Sith would likely tell you the same only that she had a more emotional connection to hers. That was not as common.

The Confessor had woken up early that morning, a fact evident by the no-longer steaming cup of caff she'd brought with her into this meditation chamber. The cup still had a little juice left in it but she wasn't about to drink it cold so it was left behind and forgotten. She'd spent this time while the drink cooled seated in the middle of the stone room, kneeling gently on a pillow. Eriana liked to meditate, to feel the Force throughout her. And here, in this place on Ilum, the Dark side could not be avoided. It tainted the very air they breathed and was like a miasma for it was so thick. Here, her apprentice would really feel the Force as he'd never felt before.

"I'm sure you're wondering what we're doing today," she spoke as her apprentice approached from behind her. "But I'm sorry to say that your hopes of building a saber will not come so soon."

When Eriana had asked Talo -or rather decided for him- to be her apprentice, she'd handed him one of her lightsabers. It was not a permanent thing; she merely wished for him to feel the power it held and see what it was like to handle one. In time he would pick a crystal from down below and build a weapon that suited him. But first, Eriana Fox had other things for her eager friend. Placed on the ground in front of her knees were eight stones. They were all the same shape and size, and labeled with tiny etches numbering them one through eight.

"Come and kneel with me. Let your mind clear and reflect upon what I am about to show you."

Once Talo had gotten seated, the blind Sith would move her hands in her lap to be palm-up and flat against her thighs. One by one the rocks would all start to rise until they were all four inches off the ground. Then, the second rock would move another four inches higher; the rest followed. The third rock another four inches; the remaining rocks continued to climb. This repeated until all eight rocks had been raised an equal set of distance away from one another. None of them were shaking, the movements were clean and crisp. It was almost like they'd been pulled by strings or something else for her control over the Force was just that precise.

"To be a Force user, doesn't just mean knowing how to fight. Nor is it just pushing things with your mind. Some will tell you that being a Sith is about power. That it's about controlling the world around you. And it is wrong. The Dark side is a gift. We have been blessed by divine power that makes us greater than most. It allows us to influence things around us and make real change to the world we live in. But, in doing so, it is crucial that we must serve the Force's will. Not our own. To do this, you must have control over yourself, your emotions, and your greed.

"The Dark can be a terrible influence. Many have fallen and tainted themselves in their emotions and it cursed them. I have fought demons on this very system who'd been so corrupted within the Force they were unrecognizable. I do not want this to happen to you. In my care I will show you how to do amazing things, and in my lessons you will find truth.
"

Slowly, the rocks would all come back down. The eighth rock leveled with the seventh and then both descended at the same time, moving to the sixth and so it moved equally with the others. And so on and so forth. Until all eight rocks had been gently come to rest on the stone floor once more. Eriana then took a deep breath and flexed her hands before clasping them back in her lap like she had before.

"I do not expect you to have this level of control as I do. Nor do I honestly think you will ever have the time to practice it like I have. I spent many years alone and in isolation so all I did was train. But this is where we will start. Take your time. Feel the rocks. See if you can lift even one."

He might note how she didn't actually explain how to do that, nor would she if he asked. This was his task to figure out and she would give him no clues. She'd already shown to her apprentice what it was like to be without the Force; a gift not even she knew. With this knowledge and this understanding of what was there beyond his own eyes, he should be able to at least move the rocks.

Talo was pleased to see Eriana again, though he had to admit he was surprised by her casual outfit. He was used to seeing her in her custom crusader armor after all. He himself wore only his imperial director uniform, he was proud of his new rank and felt a slight pang of sadness that his dearest freind was unable to see the new badge of office pinned to his chest. Not that it mattered in the grand scheme of things.

"This place you have built is amazing Eri..er...master? Mistress?" he let a smirk slip into his tone, but it hardly covered up his worry that this new student-teacher relationship would overshadow their ever growing closeness.

Once he was settled opposite her he listened to her speak and watched her demonstrate her powers, after what he had seen her do he knew that the task the had performed for him was as simple as tossing her hair. And he knew that for him one of those little stones would be like a mountain, assuming he could even do it.

He sat in silence for a moment, knowing full well that even if he DID ask how she wouldn't tell him. He had a feeling this was the sort of thing you know and then learn.

He closed his eyes, just breathing for a moment. He listened to Eriana's breath and synced his breathing to hers. He knew this wouldn't somehow give him her level of focus, but it was something to focus on. He had meditated before, and found a focus was important to clear his mind. He also knew that this power could be fueled by emotions, and he had very strong feelngs towards Eriana. His mind strayed for a moment, wondering if now that he was force sensitive -or at least aware of his connection- that they could ever be more.

He shook his head, clearing that thought. It was a silly thought anyway. They were friends, dear friends. And he couldn't imagine her wanting anything more. Even if she did like to tease him.

Eventually he finally found his center and focused, he could feel it. The force. Somehow knowing that he could tap into it made things make sense. His uncanny aim and balance that he had thought was just practiced skill could have been so much more. It was like being born again feeling this, he could feel Eriana across from him, and eventually, with much effort, he could feel the stones.

He didn't know what to do, so he just pictured them lifting. A couple of them shook slightly but fell still. Rather than let this dishearten him he used it, knowing what it felt like when they moved helped. He decided to focus on just one, and after a few moments of trenbling it lifted. The stone shook and shuddered in the air, he cried out in excitement and opened his eyes. He had just enough time to see that he had only lifted it two or so inches off the floor before it fell. His concentration had been broken by his excitement.

"Well," he chuckled, "It's a start."

Her closest friend would come and sit with her, complimenting her on the church's completion. He would then attempt to address her with a formal title which caused her to laugh and shake her hand dismissively. "Please, Talo. You do not need to address me as anything. We are friends. And always will be." She knew this answer would not actually ease his mind, for Talo always preferred to call her Lady Eriana. So she added right after, "But in the presence of others, you may call me 'Mi'lady' if that is more to your liking." She really didn't want to consider having him call her mistress, or madam. Lady Confessor maybe, but for him, it even sounded too impersonal.

The two would sit there in silence as Talo began to work out the puzzle in his mind. Eriana sat patiently, observing the way the Force flitted about his aura. She could sense it working in his mind trying to give him the answer but his logical mind didn't want to hear it. That was always the problem with teaching older students. Those who had lost their childlike wonder had a habit of not wanting to let go. It was hard to undo the reality as they saw it. Years of programming had to be re-written for a new understanding to take root.

Something did surprise Eriana. Talo was not trying to reach for the stones literally. She'd seen Acolytes hold their hands out and try to grip the stone with magic invisible fingers. But Eriana had not even lifted her hands and moved them all. Talo it seemed had picked up on that clue. One didn't need their body to work for them, just their mind. She watched him then connect with the stones, tiny slivers of energy molding from his aura to that of the rocks. Whatever was going on his mind was working. The stones began to shake. But he lacked the energy or will power to move them as she had.

His preference was another amazing trait that surprised the blind Sith. Rather than getting frustrated he simply tried something else: focusing on one stone rather than many. And it worked! The stone began to lift off the ground, if even a little. His concentration would break then as he tried to view the results of his effort and the rock fell back down. He chuckled a little, proud of his accomplishment. Eriana would smile and lean over, putting her hand on his.

"Talo! You did it! That was the first step! You moved the rock. All on your own. I didn't have to teach you, or guide you. This proves it. You really are a Force user. I'm so proud of you."

Leaning back she would put her hand back in her lap. She really was proud of him. The fact he'd accomplished so much just on his own was astounding. He might not think what he'd done was a huge step, but he didn't know the things she knew. Talo would be a powerful Sith in no time.

"Give it another try. Make it go higher this time. And hold it there for ten seconds."

Talo smiled as Eriana praised his efforts, she wouldn't be able to see his smile, but his joy would pulse through the force without him knowing since it was still flowing through him.

"you make it look so easy." he chuckled.

He relaxed his body and focused on Eriana's breathing again, it was like a soothing metronome to him. He wondered briefly if she could tell he was doing it, if she could he hoped it wouldn't weird her out or anything.

After a few moments he focused on the rock once more and after slightly less time shaking before it began to lift off the floor. He knew that he was not ready to open his eyes while channelling the force, he supposed that it was his mind having trouble focusing on too many things. With a deep breath he steadied the rock somewhat and then after a minute of getting used to how it felt to hold it just an inch off the floor he raised it to around the height of their stomachs.

He held it there, shaking in the air and counted the seconds. It felt like the longest ten seconds of his entire life, but eventually they passed. "HA!" he shouted, forgetting himself and jumping up. As he rose though, so did the stone. At a speed he couldn't control. It shot up out of the ethereal grip he had on it and smacked into the ceiling, coming back down and clattering away across the room.

"Sorry." he mumbled, looking down and scratching the back of his head nervously.

To his comment about her making it look easy she would reply, "I have been doing this all my life, my friend. You are learning something that logically makes no sense to you. If you can free your mind, you too will be able to do the things I can."

He would begin to focus again, and so as not to intrude, she did not peek into his mind. The Force gave her hunches as to what he was thinking about, but she ignored them. As such, she did not notice that he was listening to her breathe. But the sentiment was sweet had he said it aloud. She would have been glad to give him that clarity. She was always happy to help her friend. That was the level of their relationship together. Trust and comfort. She knew he would never betray her, nor her him.

Again he would work on the rock and with a more focused grip he was able to do as she asked. She could feel him straining to keep it floating for those ten seconds. The fact he even needed to counted them spoke volumes on the lack of control he really had. Eriana figured she could likely keep all eight of those rocks floating around her for hours without ever breaking a sweat. It was a limit he was putting on himself, thinking the Force was a muscle he needed to strain. If only she could make him see what she knew.

What happened next made her jump. Talo flew from his seated position in triumph and made the rock do the same. It shot up like a rocket and crashing into the ceiling before coming right back down and clanging against the floor. He was lucky it didn't break. Those types of stones were not easy to collect for they'd been polished and decorated. She'd hadn't just picked eight random stones in the halls and numbered them.

"While I applaud your enthusiasm, Talo. You must not lose control. It will be easy to do so once you get the hang of things." Eriana would hold her hand out and the runaway rock would move to her hand where she'd begin examine it to make sure it wasn't broke. "The Dark side can be tempting. Trust me. It finds a way to bring the worst out of us. That's why it's so important we learn these lessons now so in the future they are easier to overcome."

Suddenly Talo shot up, the room he had been in ripping itself away as he woke and the dream faded. He was still on Eriana's ship, laying on the floor outside of the cell.

He was groggy and dizzy, but he was slowly realizing that it had all been a dream. He wasn't force sensitive, he wasn't special. He would never be a Sith.

He would never matter.

He struggled to sit up and looked around with his groggy, distorted vision for Eriana, hoping that she still cared. Deep down he knew that that was a ridiculous thought, but he was incredibly depressed to have such power torn away from him. Not that you can tear away what was never really there.

"Talo!? Talo?!"

Eriana's fearful voice called out trying to get him to wake up. At first it was hazy and unclear, but as he came to his senses his brain would start registering the panic in her tone. She was sitting with her knees under her by his side and holding his left hand in hers; her right hand stroking his cheek trying to wake him.

"Talo! Talo! Talo, are you alright!?"

A medical droid and two soldiers quickly came by their side to help. But Eriana wouldn't move, not until he was awake and moving. Which...kind of defeated the point. When he finally started to move she squeezed his hand more and brushed his cheek more carefully.

"Talo, are you in pain. Please, say something."

Eventually Talo realized that Eriana was holding his hand and stroking his cheek.

"No..no pain." he muttered as he sat up, not letting go of her hand. "I don't recall falling asleep, but..." Talo didn't want to talk about ot with the soldiers around, they respected him little enough as it was without hearing about his dreams. "You all can go now. I'm fine." he waved them off and waited until they were gone to speak again.

"I..I dreamt that your cell let us discover I was force sensitive..you were going to train me. I was lifting some rocks...but..." he sighed and turned away sadly. "I'm not...I'm nothing in the grand scheme of things."

Eriana was pleased to see that Talo was unharmed. She was so worried about him. While also being afraid she'd accidentally killed him. She had no idea that a Force-negating room could prove to be such a drastic weapon against those who couldn't feel it. How had she been so wrong though? She was sure she felt something within Talo. Maybe it was latent ability, lost in his DNA or something. Maybe the next generation of Geist children would possess the gift? It was a possibility...

Talo would shoo away the guards while Eriana helped him sit up. They were hesitant to go, but Eriana would have asked them to stay if she didn't trust him. Captain Hamilton would nod and they would all leave to return to their stations. They could always bring him by later if he felt sick. After asking permission to leave, Hamilton would salute and return to his duties too.

Small tears of sadness would shimmer in her eyes as Talo explained his dream to her. It was heartbreaking. To think there was a chance that he could have had the gifts she had only to have them being ripped out right from under you. It made no sense to her. n theory, anyone could have the gift, the touch. They just needed to be trained how. But she supposed that's not how the universe worked, was it?

With a coo of a whimper she would lean over and wrap him into a tight hug, "Please don't say that. You are so special Talo Geist. You are my friend. My closest and dearest friend. You've saved my life twice. I wouldn't be here without you. Please remember that."

She didn't let go of her hug but she would back up some and plant a kiss on his forehead hoping it would ease his sorrow just a bit.

Talo smiled, "Yeah well...You've saved mine too." he chuckled. Not that they kept score, he knew they didn't. In reality the times he had helped Eriana were some of the few things worth noting that he thought he had ever done.

"I just.. I just wish I could be more."

Talo realized he was being far more emotional than he usually was, but Eriana didn't seem to mind. But he needed to get a lid at least partially on it. He looked at her with a wry grin. "Who knows, maybe I'll have a force sensitive great great great grandchild." then he laughed, he hadn't even had a relationship in his entire life. The idea that the Geist family would continue past him -especially in the ever racist empire- was laughable at best.

He would reply that she'd saved him plenty of times too which elicited a smile on her behalf. She'd let go of him then and help him to his feet. She didn't expect him to get over his sadness right away, but she knew she would be there for him the whole time trying to pick him up out of it. He wished to her that he could have been more, and she really didn't have a good answer to that. She knew to really make a difference in this universe one had to be Force sensitive that's the way it was.

Talo would then try to make humor at his own expense which was just another form of denial. He joked that maybe his decendants would be Force sensitive. It was a thought she had too, and in truth she wished that for him too. The only sure fire way to make that happen was to have a Force sensitive woman have his children. There had been a time where she could have considered such a thing. Not that she had any desire to be pregnant. But maybe if things had been different with her and Talo she might have wanted differently. Either way it didn't matter because she was with Milo.

"I'm sure you will find the right person out there for you someday, Talo Geist. The universe is a big place."

She then stopped and put her finger to her lips. An idea came and she said it aloud before she thought it over in her head. "If you were a Mandalorian you could make a difference." She then puckered her lips as she said that completely wrong. "What I mean is...not that I want you to go join those bucket heads. But...what I mean is, not a single one of their culture can use the Force. And they've given the Empire a serious thorn in its side. If you had their training, you could make a difference too. Something to...you know, mull over."

Eriana would then gently start pushing Talo forward so they could walk and leave this floor and head up top. She laughed at the thought of Talo in one of their Iron Skins, but the armor would do him good in battle. Having high tech blasters and using lightsaber resistant weapons? He'd be a formidable foe. Maybe they should capture one of their ranks and use them to train the man.

Talo chuckled as they walked. "Heh. If I could have a suit of that armor replicated in a less absurd style I would."

It was actually a brilliant idea, with the right armor functions he could go toe to toe with force sensitives easily enough. He just needed to have it made. And get some decent training in close combat.

Then a thought struck him.

"You know, perhaps that dream did yeild something of use." he mused, stopping mid step. "Getting one of those tin men to teach me might be a stretch, but I do happen to be good friends with a powerful force user. Maybe if I ask her really nicely she'll show me a few things about fighting like they do."

The two laughed at the expense of the Mandalorians and for a moment they were back to being good friends. He would then start seeing along the same lines as her and would stop for a moment to think on it. She would also stop and bring her hands behind her back like she usually did and waited for him to put the pieces together. While getting a Mandalorian to train him would be hard pressed, it stood to reason Eriana could just teach him how to fight.

With a smile she would instantly reply, "Talo, of course I would be more than happy to teach you." But her tone changed a little as she thought it through. "But part of what makes a Sith a Sith is that they are Force sensitive. Having a blade is not good enough when I can move twice your speed with little effort." No, if Talo wanted to fight like a Sith he'd need that armor. But she could help him with getting it.

"I will do what I can to see about getting you whatever armor you require. And if you really wish, I will teach you combat. It would be an honor to do so."

Woot woot. This post makes me Level THREE!!!
