Description The Dewback was built and designed by Desler Gizh Outworld Mobility Corporation to break back into the lucrative outer rim markets that had helped give the company its start, and in particular compete with Ubrikkian Industries line of Bantha Cargo Skiffs. Compared the Bantha, the Dewback was designed as an airspeeder to transport cargo at a higher altitude, in general avoiding the dangers the Bantha Skiffs had to face being landspeeders. The massive, twin repulsorlift engines that propel the craft are overpowered for its size, giving it the capability to carry 30 tons of cargo, preferably in a pod or container. A sturdy frame, the design of which was influenced greatly by the study of flying insectoid species on high gravity worlds able to carry many times their own weight, allows the Dewback to do much the same ensuring that it can actually carry the weight the repulsorlifts allow it to without breaking apart. This means that, for an airspeeder, the Dewback is rather slow, only about fifty kilometers an hour faster than the Bantha with a full cargo load. The Dewback is incredibly durable however, and is even capable of shrugging off a small amount of weapons fire from hand held weapons. Obviously the massive repulsorlift engines make for a very easy target, but their own durability and simplicity of design can make them harder targets to actually take out than their size would suggest. Against heavy weapons the Dewback is entirely vulnerable, as well as against small arms weapons dedicated to vehicle destruction. While not intended to transport personnel, theoretically one can outfit a cargopod to do just that, carrying anywhere between 12 and 24 human sized beings depending on the layout of the pod. Obviously this would not be the most comfortable of rides for any occupants but can be preferable to trying to walk across difficult terrain such as the arid dune sea of Tatooine. The Power Harpoons are intended to allow the Dewback to pick up cargo loads without actually having to land, and in the hands of organizations such as the TEF give it great utility in helping free stuck vehicles or possibly pick up slower ones before a sandstorm arrives. Using the harpoons, the Dewback can only carry about 50 tons, unless it is able to to attach the load to its magnetic clamps, and the harpoons come in a magnetic, fusion disk, and mullinine blade variety. Trying to lift objects, that aren't cargo pods or fit well under the Dewback can also cause severe problems with handling, and maneuverability, especially if the object in question is larger than the Dewback is. The Dewback requires a pilot, and copilot to operate under normal circumstances, and is not capable of flight outside of the atmosphere. |
