Denis Althmark
Sacred Band of Zoist
APPEARANCE:
Denis Althmark's real physical appearance is something that is rarely seen, as everyone raised on Vjun is taught to essentially "live" in one's armor. Seeing him without a helmet and gas mask over his head is a rare event. He has black hair, pale skin, brown eyes, and high cheek bones. A giant brute of a man, he stands at nearly 2 meters in height and has a large build.
PERSONALITY:
As with the many other fighters raised on Zoist, Denis Althmark is fiercely loyal to the Sith dynasty and determined to fight the Leader's enemies to the end. However, that's not to say that he is a mindless drone, but does have his own ambitions, and that is to rise to the top of the Sacred Band's hierarchy and achieve power. He is a firm believer in the ideals of the Sith, especially the need to purge the weak, a belief held by most of those that come of out of Vjun. Also distinguishing him from the countless others that are trained on Vjun, he is a good leader and tactician, naturally taking charge when the situation permits it. These traits have allowed him to reach the ranks of the Sacred Band.
The harsh environment of his homeworld has shaped Denis into a stoic individual used to hardship. In social situations outside of battle, he is usually quiet and prefers to keep to himself, something that may disturb others. His eagerness to fight and enter battle is also something that might be found disturbing by others, but is common enough among the Sacred Band to be considered normal.
BIOGRAPHY:
Denis hails from the hellish dead world of Vjun. Contrary to the Republic census bureau, the planet does indeed have a population -- a colony founded by former Sith explorers and their slaves over a century ago, at the height of their great empire. Although the planet is not a great place to live, to say the least, its harsh environment has proven to be an ideal location for a small training camp. Since the rise of the Sith Brotherhood, Vjun has been producing fighters for the Sacred Band, and Denis Althmark -- who was given the numerical designation 8213-17B at birth -- was among the many who toiled in the poisonous jungles and pools of toxic sludge to become a Brother of Zoist.
He managed to distinguish himself apart from the many others who trained with him and died, which resulted in him being sent to Zoist for further training. His instructors noted not only his ferocity and determination -- a common trait among natives of Vjun, where daily life is a struggle -- but natural leadership ability. Denis organized small groups to complete objectives in training and ended up taking command of whatever unit he found himself in.
With his transfer to Zoist and training to become a full Brother of the Sacred Band, Denis earned the right to go by an actual name rather than a numerical designation. After perusing old records that the trainees had to read to learn the glorious history of the Sith, he picked the name of a famous military commander of eras long past to go by. Denis has since proved himself in the training arenas of Zoist, not only being a good fighter but also a brilliant tactician. Having completed his training, he has been shipped off to the front lines against the Republic.
SKILLS:
Being raised as a soldier from a young age, Denis Althmark is a skilled melee fighter, both in hand-to-hand and with a vibroblade. Although he was taught some martial art techniques, due to his large size, Denis's preferred method in close combat is to simply use his brute strength to overwhelm the enemy. However, his best combat sill is his marksmanship, which he honed to perfection in the killing fields of Vjun.
GEAR:
He is issued with the standard set of armor used by Brothers of Zoist that are from Vjun. It contains basic medium armor found in use by many other militaries across the galaxy, under which he wears a heavy greatcoat. The garment is made to protect the wearer from chemical and biological hazards (common on Vjun), and keeps him very warm. Among his gear is also a helmet and a gas mask, along with a pair of boots designed for being used in harsh terrain. As for weapons, he carries a blaster rifle and pistol.
