I got questioned recently about how darksabers are possible, since lightsabers logically would have to be white/colored. So, although I'm pretty sure they're real, I went looking. There's nothing on them in Wookiepedia unless they can be referred to something other than darksabers (That superweapon by the Hutts keeps popping up), and I want to know if they are officially recognized as real. You could aquire a darksaber in TFU, and I'm pretty sure the game was supposed to be entirely canon?

Also, I can find no extra information on them. I believe that they cannot support color, but what sort of crystal do they use and where can it be found? Can I use one for a character?

:CIsee: I require enlightenment.

They're not real. Lightsabers are made of plasma and they look the way they do because they emit light energy(as well as other types of energy). Darkness is a lack of energy, ergo such a thing would be impossible. It was put in TFU to impress kids.

Pretty much this, though I am unaware of what is in TFU.

Same with lavi on the TFU subject.

However, when someone says something about a darksaber, I picture it like a black light. Its a darker purple but still glows.

Then that's a dark purple lightsaber. Not a darksaber.

Lol. Yea good point. What about if the color of the blade was black, but was still glowing? Would that be a darksaber?

No, that would be impossible. Black is an abscence of light, it can't glow. That's what's in TFU.

Oh, okey dokey then. And back in the last timeline, Kupo had one of those and was allowed to. But then again, this timeline is way older.

Imo he shouldn't have been allowed to, it's impossible. You can have any colour in the visible spectrum, pick one of those and ignore black.

Wait, if black isn't in our spectrum...how can we see it? Like, there's a black crayon and everything lol.

I know, but I"m just confused about black now. Because apparently its not in our visible spectrum, yet we can see it.

Ok i'm kind of digressing, because I agree on the darksaber thing with Ols, so I'll probably make a thread on Black lol.

Black isn't a colour in the visible spectrum. Colours in the spectrum are dependent upon how light reflects of an object. Black is an abscence of that light, hence it's not in the visible spectrum. That's why black isn't one of the colours of the rainbow.

Then how can we see it? I know you're right, i'm just trying to understand how we can see it if its not part of our spectrum.

In a sense we can't see it. It's because we can't see it that makes it black. When you see black, it's because there is illumination nearby. In a total abscence of light, for example in a pitch black room with no windows or lights, you can't see anything because there's no light. That not being able to see anything is "the colour black". Do you see what I mean?

The color black used in products and such is a very, very, very, very, very, very, very, dark gray. You cannot see true black.
