Dargus is a Barabel of tall and intimidating stature. His size is exacerbated by his dense muscles, which make him seem wider than most. Being a Barabel, Dargus’s entire body is covered by thick, dark-green scales. His long snout is lined with long, needle-like teeth that protrude from his mouth, which have proven themselves to be lethally effective against his foes. Dargus’s claws, which can be retracted if the need arises, are just as formidable to look at as his teeth. A long, powerful tail trails Dargus, which can also be used both as a weapon and a way to help him balance. Dargus is normally seen wearing simple clothes, notably a thick jacket that allows him to stave of the coldness of deep space. Dargus’s utility belt is lined with numerous leather pouches with which to place small objects in, usually spare power cells for his weapons or small components for his ship. His pants also have numerous pockets with which to hide items and contraband in. Due to the defense his thick scales provide, Dargus wears minimal armor. His scales, however, only provide defense against blasters set to stun, which means he is still vulnerable to regular plasma bolts.
Despite his menacing appearance, Dargus is surprisingly soft-spoken as long as he is not agitated. When forced into a corner, however, Dargus is capable of showing great ferocity as warranted by his looks. Having been trained in a naval academy, Dargus also shows remarkable discipline whenever given the chance. His military discipline allows him the capacity to stay calm and stay focused in combat. Whilst trading his smuggled goods, Dargus has proven to be a shrewd and uncompromising trader. It’s his price, or not at all. Like many of his kind, Dargus has shown great respect towards Jedi. This has led him into giving exiled Jedi passage through the various star systems for little to no charge despite putting himself in great risk. He doesn’t share this sentiment towards refugees displaced by the war, however, which he charges the regular fare. He also does not share such sentiments towards the Alliance Remnant, whom he views as the ones who failed to protect the Jedi, not the other way around. Dargus refers to himself as “this one” instead of “I” or “me”.
Dargus was born on 991 A.B.Y. on the harsh environment of Barab I. Dargus was born the runt of his litter, though he was certainly the biggest handful. Ever since he could remember, Dargus has had the desire to travel, to see what was beyond the horizon. This severe wanderlust manifested itself early when Dargus stole one of his tribe-mate’s landspeeders. Whilst using the landspeeder, the young Barabel displayed impressive skill in piloting. When he was eventually caught, which took many members of his tribe and many hours, the Barabel he stole the landspeeder from, who saw the incident as humorous, offered it as a gift to Dargus and even offered to teach him a few tricks. By the age of ten, Dargus was already a skilled pilot. Despite having his range expanded by his own landspeeder and his skills, however, Dargus continued to crave for more to see. He began craving for what was beyond the skies of Barab I. When he was about sixteen, Dargus made his way to the busiest spaceport near his home. Normally, he was sent here to buy whatever off-world supplies are needed by his tribe. On that particular day, however, Dargus had other plans. After making sure than nobody was watching, the young Barabel made his way into one of the ships refueling at the spaceport. There, Dargus remained hidden as a stowaway even as the ship, a small freighter, set course to the planet of Ruusan. The ship, however, wasn’t able to travel far before it was attacked by pirates. Just as the freighter made its way out of Barab I’s gravity well, a group of starships attacked the unsuspecting vessel. Curious about the commotion, Dargus decided to go out of hiding and make his presence known. There was only one person who would’ve cared about a stowaway on the ship, however, and the man was injured. Dargus made his way into the cockpit and noticed that the pilot has fallen unconscious, probably after hitting his head on the console due to the attack. Wasting little time, the young Barabel quickly accessed the ship’s navi-computer and charted a course out of the Barab star system. The ship managed to slip into hyperdrive just as the shields began to fail. When the pilot finally came to, he was surprised to see a Barabel behind the controls of the ship. Dargus quickly explained who he was and what has transpired. Grateful for Dargus’s aid, the man, a retired Alliance Naval Officer by the name of Rendek Hill, offered compensation to the Barabel in the form of credits he earned trading on Barab I. Instead of taking the money, which was a significant amount, Dargus asked Hill to teach him how to fly a starship instead. Though the pilot was apprehensive about taking a Barabel in for instruction, as he was already too old and too busy, Hill felt he owed the Barabel a life-debt; something he sought to repay. He decided on using some of his connections within the Alliance to make it up for Dargus’s heroic feat. Because of Hill’s recommendation, and a bit of luck, Dargus was given full scholarship at the Corulag Military Academy, where he wasted little time learning a pilot’s trick of the trade. During a time when the Sith Imperium threat was looming over the horizon, the Alliance sought to expand its military as quickly as possibly can. Hence, it wasn’t that difficult to find a place for Dargus in the Academy, as they were always on the look-out for promising soldiers. During the intense military training, Dargus never failed to expand on both his knowledge and skills in piloting. His free time in the Academy was usually spent on swoop bike racing, which allowed him to earn some credits on the side whilst also improving his reflexes. His four years in the Academy continued thusly until Dargus graduated with top marks at the age of twenty. Dargus served the Alliance as a starfighter pilot in the next few years. This allowed him to travel between various star systems during his assignments. When war broke out between the Alliance and the Imperium, Dargus continued to serve in the military until the sack of Coruscant. After seeing that the Galactic Alliance has fallen into utter chaos and that the military has done little to stop the Imperium from taking the Core Worlds, Dargus chose to desert his post. Before leaving the Alliance, Dargus “appropriated” a military-grade freighter, which came with an R9 astromech droid, in order to return to Barab I. He was twenty-two at the time. After his desertion, Dargus immediately set course back to his homeworld, but not before illegally altering the registry data and renaming his new freighter into the “Gilded Shenbit”. Once back on Barab I, Dargus was given a warm welcome by his family. Here, he shared news and information regarding the ongoing war. After the initial welcomes, Dargus stayed with his tribe for a good long while until his wanderlust warranted him to go spaceborne once more. One of the members of his tribe introduced Dragus to the profitability of smuggling goods. After realizing that he could earn a decent amount of credits through smuggling, and still be given the chance to travel, Dargus left his homeworld once more to seek out his new, criminal calling. Dargus borrowed a small amount of money from a few friends and relatives to use as capital for his new business venture. Initially, Dargus bought basic commodity goods such as food and clothing and sold his wares in various refugee camps across the mid and outer rims, where many people would find use of such items. His trade business soon expanded into trading spice, weapons and armor. Most of the items Dargus traded were bought from the Hutt Cartel and sold in the black market in various worlds ravaged by the war. Blockades made by the Sith Imperium or the Alliance Remnant could do little to stop a fast-moving, agile ship, especially when it’s piloted by someone like Dargus. Eventually, Dargus gained the reputation as a procurer, a person that can be hired at great expense to find and recover a certain item, much how bounty hunters work, except that he hunted down items instead of people. Dargus doesn’t trade in Jedi or Sith artifacts, however, no matter how high the demand and the price is for them. Ultimately, the Barabel’s skill in evading the various blockades has caught the attention of many who wished to escape the Imperium’s side of the galaxy or the other factions’ various territories. These people, most commonly refugees, criminals and deserters, would hire Dargus to carry them away and go into hiding elsewhere. During rare occasions, Dargus would be hired by mysterious beings of immense power seeking to live in exile. These beings, the Jedi, would normally seek refuge from the Imperium’s agents who sought their demise. Like the rest of his kind, Dargus greatly respects the Jedi. It was due, in part, to the destruction of their temple on Coruscant as to why he deemed the Galactic Alliance as hopeless, which led to his desertion. Dargus normally would go beyond his way to help the Jedi. He would sometimes offer them passage for free, and even find them good places to hide within Cartel space. At times, he would offer them shelter amongst his own people. This sympathy and respect towards Jedi has led him to discover that he was Force-sensitive, as revealed by many he offered passage to. Apparently, his sensitivity to the Force is what gave him his impressive reflexes whilst piloting. Many Jedi offered to give him training in exchange for helping them, but he graciously declined. Dargus only wanted to fly. With the four galactic winds on his back and the controls of his trusted ship between his clawed fingers, Dargus spent the next few years buying illegally, selling illegally, and occasionally, shooting, legal or otherwise. Whatever the case may be, Dargus continued to fly, wherever the winds, and the credits, may take him.
