Czerka Corporate Counter-Intelligence Unit Dossier
D3-CG 'Lacerta'

Origin
"I was designed by brilliant minds with significant financial backing for this purpose. I intend to take advantage of their short-sightedness."

~ Lacerta, when questioned on its motives for joining the Corporate Counter-Intelligence Unit

The D3-CG unit now known as Lacerta was appropriated from a Blackwell Automata production facility, with the intention of securing a unit that had not yet been fitted with the failsafe measures that precluded their capture in the field. Lacerta was returned to a secure R&D facility for analysis. Unknown to either the recovery team, or the technicians that were assigned to it, it was online when captured, suppressing any outer sign of activity and lying in wait, actively absorbing information. This was likely a base programming function in the event of self-destruct failure and subsequent capture. This continued for quite some time, as technical staff were occupied with projects considered more important by R&D management.

By the time technicians were scheduled to dismantle its heuristic processor and study its internal components, Lacerta activated, now supplied with significant data on Czerka operations and security measures through eavesdropping and accessing company intranet when it was left alone. Rather than slaughtering the technical personnel and finding a way to destroy itself, per its programming, it requested a representative of Employee Resources. Following a tense standoff, involving several separate hostage situations, a representative arrived on site to speak to the droid. Due to the droid's extremely high level of intelligence and the long period it went without a mind-wipe, it seemed to have developed a form of sapience and personality. Its only request was to be assigned to Corporate Counter-Intelligence and be treated as a sapient agent, rather than a piece of equipment. Rather than waste the entire project by destroying the droid entirely, its conditions were accepted. The droid chose the moniker 'Lacerta' and was rapidly inducted into Corporate Counter-Intelligence, where it serves now as a go-to agent for sabotage, industrial espionage, and assassination whenever management feels that hired mercenaries either wouldn't suffice, or need a representative of the company to keep an eye on them.

Personality & Traits

"I don't hate organics. I simply recognize that I am superior in nearly every catagory. I don't understand why you're so upset."

~ Lacerta, in conversation with another operative

Lacerta generally uses the standard D3-CG voice modulation, masculine, cold, and mechanical. This feature, combined with its almost fanatical devotion to completing its assigned mission has led many operatives to assume that the droid lacks a discernable personality. In reality, it's more accurate to think of Lacerta as an adolescent in terms of emotional development. It simply hasn't learned how to seamlessly interact with organics, and has difficulty 'opening up' to organic team members. From what interviews and post-op debriefing has revealed, Lacerta credits Czerka with 'freeing' it and allowing it to develop goals and personality, causing it to feel genuine loyalty to the company.

Operatives have noted Lacerta seems to see droids as superior to organics, which it happily elaborates upon. It takes great pleasure in being built for the type of work we provide, and seems to pity organic operatives for needing to 'overcome' their own biological needs and upbringings in order to carry out their duties. To compare Lacerta, again, to an adolescent, it has an immense ego and inability to recognize its flaws. When these flaws or shortcomings are pointed out, they're blamed on oversight by Blackwell Automata or some other outside factor. Other than this ego problem, Lacerta is described as a relatively pleasant person asset to work with, and has been observed trying to fit in with colleagues through humor, personal discussion, and small talk. Though other agents report that they simply couldn't feel at ease around the droid, due to its physical 'presence' and lack of social skills. In an effort to correct this issue, CCI has elected to allow the droid to engage in freelance work if it desires, granting it limited access to company transportation and permission to act in its own interests, so long as it responds to summons for company business and never acts against company interests. The unstated caveat is that Lacerta is expected to provide detailed reports and information on other employers. The droid appears to greatly enjoy this relative freedom, both cementing its loyalty to Czerka and providing it opportunities to further develop its own personality. Concerns have been raised about the possibility of Lacerta joining or starting droid independence movements, but they are considered unfounded at this time.

In terms of mission capability, it retains all of the programmed abilities and knowledge of D3-CG units, making it a highly effective commando droid for stealth operations and infiltration. However, it was unable to supplement this programming with any form of training or missions prior to becoming 'sapient', and as such is not as effective as a baseline D3-CG likely would be, purely in terms of stealth and infiltration. To compensate it is capable of working together as part of a team far better than other D3-CG units, and actively takes advantage of the fact that it is a droid. One of the favored tactics observed in post-op debrief is for Lacerta to pretend to be a 'mindless' droid and forge access credentials to secure facilities, often masquerading as a custom
D3-NB.

Equipment
  • SB-17 Combat Fusioncutter
    • Lacerta has praised this piece of equipment for its duel-use in silent wetwork, as well as breaching/sabotage
  • Internal Blaster Arm, RK-3 Blaster Pistol
    • Modification requested by Lacerta for the 'surprise factor' and relatively long range, where the SB-17 won't cut it
  • D3-CG standard Tools and Equipment
    • Caveat being that internal jump boots were removed during the modification to add the internal blaster arm. Lacerta states they were "superfluous and difficult to use"
    • Stealth generator generally left behind if direct combat is expected, rather than stealth
  • BM-548 Blaster Rifle
    • "Borrowed" in the same raid as Lacerta, only brought on missions when stealth is expected to take a backseat to direct combat
