Culmination

Crix stood before the Bendu and the grandmaster. He was as ready as he could be for whatever terrors he was to be subjected too. His little friend, whom he'd decided to name Bradley, seemed to settle in as if to say, "I'm here for you, pal."

The Jedi waited.... and then waited some more. Bradley yawned, it was adorable, and then went to sleep on his shoulder. Crix kept himself open to the force preparing for anything and everything. Of course, based on the illusion constructed by the Bendu only moments ago, he seriously doubted he'd be able to thwart anything the force entity wanted to do.

Crix cleared his throat and asked, "So, how does this work, do you talk first or do I get us started?"

He knew questioning the Bendu probably wasn't the smartest thing he could do, but patience wasn't exactly a virtue he possessed. He shifted his weight to his right leg and reached up to where Bradley rested and stroked the little guy's shell.

The Bendu stared down at Crix.

It wasn't hard - the Bendu tended to stare downward at any who approached it. But few had ever gotten to the stage where the Bendu would look down at them to assess them, to see if what they had shown so far was a sign of greatness or a sign of someone being pressured into showing hints of greatness they would never be able to recapture.

That was the problem with Crix.

How was the Bendu to know if the young man would be this useful, this great, in the future? How was it to know that the man hadn't merely managed to use his luck to his advantage? Because, contrary to popular belief amongst the Jedi, luck still existed alongside the Force.

People just tended to like the idea that the Force, a nebulous but benevolent semi-sentient nexus of power, had more of a say in their lives than random chance.

The Bendu turned to Arda.

"Is he ready for the final test, do you think?"

While Crix announced he was ready, Arda was busy climbing down the antlers of the Bendu until she was close enough to the ground that she could jump without compromising her ankles and knees. Once her feet touched the dirt, the Bendu had spoken, he was silently judging and evaluating Crix, much like he did for her when she faced his tests. The small Jedi looked up at the Force god and then back to her Jedi Knight as though she were passing judgement also, "I don't think he will be," she said, pausing and glanced up at the white eyes of the Bendu, "Not until the end, then I trust he will show how ready he was."

Arda was pretty proud at her ever improving cryptic Jedi Master speech, though it probably annoyed many who interacted with her. She thought it was part in the job description that she would need to make her padawans and knights think about their tasks, instead of going in blindly. For this task, she was not entirely sure what he was going to face, but it would be one that would break him if he wasn't successful.

The woman glanced at him as she found a stone to sit upon to watch and feel Crix's progress.
