So as anyone from the Skype chat yesterday already knows, I'm hoping to get this game soonish. So I had a few questions.

First of all, since I'm an idiot and missed the awesome sale last night, I wanted to see if anyone knew of any other deals going on for this game and the various DLCs that are out. I would very much appreciate being pointed in a cheap direction.

Secondly, any tips for a noob to the franchise? What nation to start with, common mistakes to avoid, etc?

Thanks!

The usual place to check for a game like CK2 is either Steam (which should have a summer sale in the coming months, woe to my wallet), Humblebundle (which just ended its sale), or use one of these kinds of websites. They try to actively compare prices from multiple places, but as a general disclaimer, I'd be wary and check to be certain before making any purchases.

Recommend that, of the various DLCs, you get Rome and the Old Gods first, then Swords of Islam, Sons of Abraham, and so forth as you wish. All the big DLCs will allow you to play as a type of nation other than Catholic European, but the first two also carry particular gameplay elements. Rome enables building retinues - that is, standing armies rather than levies, which are pretty much essential to the game by this point - and the Old Gods enables a starting date of 865. Otherwise, you'd only be to start from 1066 (though you can otherwise start from any date of your choosing up till the end).
