Affiliation: Rebels, Unique Ship

Intent:
Since the ship has taken on a sort of life of its own and has featured in an ever increasing number of threads, I felt like things were getting to the point where it really needs a modified/approved tech profile before making real use of any upgrades to the baseline model. While nominally still an old Imperial Nebulon-V Frigate, the ship has participated in several major operations, suffered significant damage, and likewise undergone significant repairs and modifications (I can provide some thread links if desired). The ship remains a part of the Rebel fleet, and is primarily used as a base of operations for a number of core Rebel PC's. If approved, it will continue to function as it has- a characterful face of Rebel resilience, fortitude, and determination in conflicts across the galaxy.

DESCRIPTION
A descendant of the venerable EF76 Nebulon-B, the Nebulon-V is the newest addition to the Escort Frigate Line by Kuat Drive Yards. It features extremely heavy armor plating, which has been raised up off the hull, creating a buffer zone and allowing the armor to cool more quickly when it is under sustained turbolaser fire. These gaps between the armor plating and hull also provide additional storage space. Cargo containers can be mag-locked along the hull, concealed and protected by the armor plating. It is also heavily armed, and with its robust engines making it highly maneuverable and quick to accelerate it is ideal for anti-starfighter operations or escort duty. Unfortunately, the heavy armor and extensive armaments limit hangar capacity substantially. External docking berths have somewhat offset this drawback, but it is certainly no replacement for a dedicated carrier. With some weapon systems removed completely, the vessel is easily outfitted for a myriad of other roles, including a hospital ship or an armed personnel transport.

Service records indicate that the Corusca was originally sold to the Imperial Navy with a number of upgrades and modifications for the long range patrol of border territories, but that a series of accidents and unfavorable encounters with pirates prompted Imperial Insurance adjusters to declare the ship totaled and sell it for scrap. The ship was sold at auction to the Cyrillian Defense Fleet, under control of the local systems government. After unremarkable service with the CDF, the ship was once again auctioned off due to budget sequestrations, this time to a now defunct mercenary group that declared bankruptcy shortly after the acquisition. Records are lost at this point until the ship surfaced again nearly two years later in the hands of bacta pirates, when it was captured by sympathetic Mon Calamari Patrol and donated to the Rebellion in need of serious repair.

Since coming into Rebel hands, the run-down frigates colorful history has sparked fierce debate among current and former crew over whether she's lucky or cursed. Under the command of her latest Captain- Mandalorian survivor Arya Atin'al- the Corusca has participated in a number of major Rebel operations, including the establishment of the Rebel base on Tibbanopolis, the X-Wing raid on Christophsis, and most recently the Battle of Naboo. In this short stretch of time the ship has achieved both great success and significant losses and damage, requiring a near constant stream of repairs and modifications that have created a patchwork of systems and equipment that bears little resemblance to the original specs. Damage sustained over Naboo has necessitated a serious refit at the Rebel asteroid base of Vergasso, where Rebel engineers couldn't pass up the opportunity for a few new "upgrades."

The Corusca itself is a late model, having come out of KDY shortly before the product line was discontinued, and incorporates several MandalMotors design improvements made throughout the product lines lifespan. The traditional prow or dorsal mounted bridge is replaced with an internal Combat Information Center (CIC) designed for maximum command/control efficiency and survivability. Additionally, the Corusca has been equipped with a Gravitic Anomaly Sensor, buffering it against damage normally associated with sudden reversion to real space and software patches have prepared it for potential HIMS system install- though the actual hardware installation on a low priority picket ship was deemed far too costly by Imperial budget reviewers, and the Rebels have been unable to secure a compatible model. A number of improvements have been made to the weapon systems, filling perceived gaps in capability and increasing the frigates considerable firepower. The already robust defenses of the Nebulon-V line has been enhanced with an additional backup power generator, allowing the ship to power through significant amounts of systems damage without major loss in capabilities or defense, and all important software has been copied to a back up server to speed an emergency reboot in case of a critical damage or even ion cannon induced shutdown.

All of these modifications have not come without a cost, however. Capacitors and magazines for the additional weapon systems occupy a considerable amount of space between the inner and outer armor layers, which has significantly reduced the outer storage capacity. The necessary patchwork of repairs and new systems hardware- especially the secondary backup generator- has likewise whittled away at internal space, further impacting the ships already limited living capacity and hangar space. The years of modifications have all been decidedly warship oriented, reducing its trademark role modularity and making it unlikely the Corusca will ever see service as a hospital ship or transport. The kaleidoscope patchwork of systems wiring and jury-rigged installation by hundreds of different techs and engineers (not all of them professionally certified) from nearly a dozen different systems shipyards is both a blessing and a curse. The ad-hoc nature of the systems lends itself well to further patch jobs, making field repairs expedient for any creative engineer or crew chief and ensuring that the Corusca is notoriously difficult to take out of the fight. The ship systems are administered by a number of different droid brains all with their own personalities and base operating systems, making the ship resistant to cyber-based attacks. However, despite all this, shipyard-certified mechanics and repairs are recommended for a reason- it's hard to find a system on the Corusca that isn't at best finicky or at worst dangerously unstable, with modifications to one part of the ship often causing unexpected problems in an entirely unrelated sub-system, and the ship punishes negligence severely- more than one unfortunate crewman has been fatally irradiated or electrocuted in the bowels of the ship. Accelerated wear and tear on parts from the modified and/or unstable systems calls for a constant parade of minor repairs, and it's rare for the Corusca to go into battle without something being broken. That said, the ships record in Rebel hands speaks for itself, and many brave men and women proudly call the ship home.

There's also a pretty gnarly recurring Mynock infestation on the lower decks.

I don't normally like to bump threads, but @Clayton, if you could take a look at this I'd appreciate it since we're looking to get this project moving again and a new tech profile would be nice. If it helps, I could change the charged multi-launcher (a seperate tech profile) back to heavy torpedo launchers until you get a chance to look at that one.

The summary of changes from the baseline model is thus...

New Toys:
  • Extra secondary power generator
  • Weapons (NEW Ion cannons, quad lasers, and point defense guns, swapped heavy torpedo launcher for multi-launcher)
  • Changed/Upgraded a few standard systems and equipment items to "heavy" or "advanced" versions
  • Added new Gravitic Anamoly Sensors and Anti-Cyber Warfare Suite
In exchange for:
  • SIGNIFICANTLY reduced cargo capacity
  • Reduced hangar capacity for shuttles/assault craft
  • Reduced exterior docking tubes for freighters
  • Significantly reduced passenger/troop capacity

And then there's some "Pros and Cons" in the last paragraph of the description that aren't necessarily quantifiable.

First off, the text is over all small and hard to read. Everything is looking good for most of the first but the passenger count seems really low, I seen that you lowered it but 50 seems a bit on the shy side if it can hold a crew of 720. The only real issue I see with it besides that is its speed. This is really fast for something that is classified as a heavy frigate. Usually when Heavy is used in ship terms it means it changes speed for armor and/or armament. Maybe tone that down some and make up for it by having a better response on the controls and maybe a better turning and pitching ability. If you still want the speed maybe add that because of its speed its a bit slow to respond to maneuvers. On that note you should maybe add just a bit about how maneuverable it is to go with its speed stats. Maybe also add how much consumables it carries, I know that almost never gets used in an RP but it is still good to know. Other than those points this seems pretty solid, as for the weapon system I think they would be okay but I will leave that to @Clayton.
