In Sector E7 lies the enigmatic Avalon System, located at the edge of the Chiss Ascendency. Though its existence is known to most Chiss due to history classes, its location has been classified, making it difficult to be located. Avalon System has served as a base for Chiss intelligence agencies over the centuries along with designated as a secondary capital in the event of a war. The Avalon System, named after its sun, Avalon, holds two and a half planets/moons. The first two are Corbenic, the main planet, and its moon, Sarras. Avalon once held another planet, Loegria.

History

Expansion of Britannia

The Avalon System was originally occupied by the Britannian Empire, consisting of the amphibious Logrese and the enslaved humanoid Sarrans. Originally, the two species had lived apart. The Logrese confined to Loegria and the Sarrans to Sarras.

According to estimations, it is believed that around 9,000 BY, a planetwide war broke out on Loegria, the largest nations being the Britannian Empire and the Albion Kingdom. Ultimately, the totalitarian Britannian Empire remained victorious. During this conflict, two things birthed from the Logrese War. First, in an effort to get past Albion's defenses, Britannia developed space travel technology. Secondly, Loegria was united under one rule.

With Loegria under one rule and the development of space travel, interest began to delve into Loegria's neighbors: the planet Corbenic and its moon, Sarrans. Exploration began first on Corbenic. The lust planet was found to be more fruitful than their own Loegria. Though the planet was sixty percent water, the main continent, dubbed Sangréal (though called New Britannia by some), held lush forests, rich earth, with polar ice caps on either end. However, unlike their Loegria which was normally hot, Corbenic was mildly colder, varying between lukewarm and chilly. Parts of the continent Sangréal farther from the equator were more prune to snow and ice storms. The seas were rough. Despite these conditions, no sentient life was present.

This situation was different for Corbenic's moon, named Sarras. Sarras, an icy and aquatic world, was home to a barbaric humanoid species called the Sarrans. The Sarren were ill-intelligent sentient lifeforms who had not advanced into an industrial society. What the Logrese found strange about the Sarran were that the species were a hivemind, all connected to a queen. Were the queen to die, the workers would cease to function.

The Logrese took advantage of this and captured the Sarran Queens, enslaving the Sarran species. The Sarren would be conformed to the Logrese religion and beliefs, becoming less docile and more aggressive.

Still, Britannia was greedy. Seeing itself superior to the conquered Albion inhabitants, only the Britannian elite were allowed to live on Corbenic. Sarras was used as a breeding ground to grow Sarrans to be used as workers for Britannian Logrese. Few Albion Logrese were able to obtain Sarran slaves, until two thousand years later.

The Britannian War

In 7,024, a Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet discovered the Avalon System and made contact. Due to inability to communicate with the Logrese, the Chiss' actions were misinterpreted as a sign of hostility. The Britannian Empire declared war on the Chiss by destroying the visiting Chiss ship, the Csapala Integrity. The Chiss fleet, shocked by the atrocity, struck back, decimating two Britannian fleets.

When a reinforcement fleet arrived, it was shocked by what it saw. Britannia had unleashed a missile known as the ARTHURN Missile, named after the key ingredients in its composition: Argon, Tholy (a very potent radioactive element), Uranium, and Radon. The single missile destroyed the Chiss flagship and crippled the two ships next to it. Fearing such weapons could devastate the Chiss colonies.

A Britannian fleet attempted to chase the other Chiss fleet. As it lacked hyperspace capabilities, the Chiss fleet was able to escape. The Britannian fleet stayed in patrol for a week until three Chiss fleets arrived. The Chiss managed to overwhelm the Britannian fleet and capture the flagship. From the flagship, the Chiss were able to replicate the ARTHURN weaponry and obtain biological samples of the Logrese. With fear that the weapons could destroy the Chiss colonies, the fleet commander made the heavy decision to wipe out the Logrese. From the biological samples, a virus was developed that would kill the Logrese. The virus, hidden in a missile disguised as a comet, was snuck onto Loegria where the species were beginning to die off, the epidemic eventually spreading to Corbenic and Sarras.

The Chiss fleets arrived at Loegria where it bombarded the planet with ARTHURN missiles. However, they proved more potent than originally theorized. Due to Tholy in the planet's core, the blitz resulted in the planet exploding.

Legacy of Annihilation

The destruction the ARTHURN weaponry caused worried the Chiss. With the rest of the Logrese dying off from the plague within weeks, the Britannian Empire was no longer a threat. As such, the Chiss decided to extinguish all records of the ARTHURN technology, dismantling the remaining missiles. However, the ARTHURN had one last impact. The Sarran Queens had been on Loegria when it was destroyed. The Sarran died out within a month, leaving Corbenic and Sarras to the Chiss explorers. As Tholy was only present in the Avalon System, the Chiss wanted to limit access to the planet. Besides high-ranking military officers and the leaders of the Nine Families, no others could grant access to the Avalon System.

With the restrictions, Corbenic became a prime location for intelligence agencies to set up shop. With the defenses built around it, it was decided that were the Chiss' capital to ever fall, Corbenic would be used as the capital-in-exile. However, the scenario never happened and thus Corbenic laid forgotten to many.

The Chiss Ascendency Intelligence Network, CAIN, like its predecessors, turned Corbenic into its headquarters. Over the last three decades, CAIN and its predecessor went to great lengths to remove its location from any and all records, its coordinates privy only to the Chiss leaders and CAIN.

Avalon System

Avalon

Avalon is the solar system's star. Corbenic, Sarras, and the remains of Loegria orbit Avalon.

Loegria

Loegria was a heated planet near Avalon and the first planet in the Avalon System. The Logrese were native from this planet. During the Britannian War, due to ARTHURN missiles igniting the Tholy-filled core, Loegria was destroyed. Some of the debris formed an asteroid belt around Corbenic, sometimes known as the Logres Ring.

Corbenic

First colonized by the Logrese approximately ten centuries prior to the Battle of Yavin and later colonized by the Chiss after the Britannian War, Corbenic was the second planet in the Avalon System.

Though the planet was sixty percent covered in water, the main continent, dubbed Sangréal (called New Britannia by the Logrese), held lush forests, rich earth, with polar ice caps on either end. Corbenic was mildly cold, cooler than Loegria, varying between lukewarm and chilly. Parts of the continent Sangréal farther from the equator were more prune to snow and ice storms. The seas tend to be rough. Due to separation of the classes, few Logrese had access to Corbenic and as such many of its natural wonders were undisturbed. The Chiss later attempted to keep its natural beauty intact, setting in the ice caps, a couple mountains, and along part of the Sangréal shoreline.

Sarras

Sarras was the icy, aquatic moon orbiting Corbenic. Sarras was originally the homeworld of the Sarran species, who went extinct shortly following the Britannian War. Sarras was given some defenses, but due to the planetary conditions, Sarras was given less attention.

The Grail

Loegria was destroyed, but parts of it survived, just like when the Death Star destroyed Alderaan, creating The Graveyard. Most of the rubble turned into an asteroid belt orbiting Avalon, with some orbiting Corbenic. One of debris colonized was dubbed The Grail. It became a central communications center for the Northwestern section of the Chiss Ascendency, allowing CAIN to hide its communications and espionage by riding on The Grail's operations. The Grail dually serves as a defense space station protecting Corbenic. Over the last two hundred years, work has been done on The Grail to make it hyperspace capable.

Notes

Tholy (Th) was a fictional element I created for the writeup. Most of the Tholy was destroyed when Loegria was destroyed. Barely any (a little powder here, a spec there) remain, thus Tholy will not be used for weapons of mass destruction (i.e. Death Star, etc.).
