Surprise, surprise, I have to pick where I'm going to be educated on a higher level for the next four years. Unfortunately, I have no idea what to do.

Then it occurred to me: everyone on the SWRP is either in college or graduated. And some of them are pretty smart. Poll them!

How did all you university folk pick your school?

I went to a community college because I'm dirt poor and didn't want to immediately yoke myself into student loans.

Not to mention the fact that I'm going in for Pre-med but I doubt I'm going to see med school.

Just take your pick. My mother, for example, keeps telling me to just get something that earns me a stable living, and worry about what I 'want to do' later.

Which will then never happen.

But that's beside the point.

I'm doing the same as Lionheart, most Community Colleges in the states have a system that if you go through their associates degree program, you can transfer your credits and stuff to a four year school. It saves time, money and gives you an easier time getting into the college life. Good luck with your choice!

I went to my school thinking I'd turn into an awesome 3d artist and work for triple digits.

But I'm not an artist, so I switched into Communications and found my calling

I went to UNOmaha, because they are bitchin' in Chemistry, which was my major at first...and UNMC is renowned for their research.

Then I found Omaha's Chemistry department is a bitch.

Came to the University of Arizona because the school is ranked as one of the top in the country for research, and for big name company recruitment straight after graduation. Its also really nice (campus) :) .

Then again, I came here straight off because I have a scholarship that allows me to put a dent in my tuition. You might choose to go to a CC because like previously said, they are cheaper.

"Here's cheap...and nearby."

Granted I'm out of college right now, should be going back soon though...not sure what I'm going to study though yet >.<

I go to Bradley University. I had never heard of it (I have an excuse at it's out of state for me), but my college placement counselor person suggested I look into it. I took a tour and loved it. Still do.

I go to a community college. If you lack motivation, a community college will give it to you. Get your core classes out of the way for cheap and then find a real place to go.

I'm going to University of Cincinnati. I grew up here, and coincidentally it's rated two for my major (sure can't afford UCLA).

I suggest going an hour or two away if you can live on-campus. Far enough so you're forced to meet new people, close enough if it doesn't work you can talk to old people.

University of Ottawa because it's in the capital of Canada, and my degree is political science. All the jobs are there.

University of Edinburgh for it's anthropology social program, and because it was one of the best in Scotland. Transferred to UNM when I came to the states as it too has a great anthropology program, and was easier on transferring and close to family that moved here. Though I did go through UNM night classes TVI, and AI for different art/animation.

all of which I really do nothing with other than hobbies anymore or apply to teaching my kids.

I start UVM this fall, applied because it is a Public Ivy and the Army is paying for me to get my education from there. Hopefully NYU for law school afterward with my GI Bill and a few loans.

Where are you from?! My friend goes there, studying medicine.

I picked Leeds university because it was in the top five for Nursing courses on the tables.

My cousin goes to UNO.

I picked Shepherd because it was a good school, outside DC, and beautiful. Went there for a year then moved to Texas. Took a semester off and went to community college for a year. Now I am about to start at University of Houston-Downtown, because they have a good CJ program and they are relatively cheap.

I just typed in Biochem and colleges and started applying to colleges that had the major. Eventually, found a site which shows which colleges have free applications and some of the colleges that I applied to accepted me. From there, I chose the one that definitely had the major I wanted, was slightly cheaper, and further away in the far off land of Michigan.

Figured out my major, found the schools that had my major, applied, then I chose from a few aspects: size, distance, and location.

My University is very small with only 15,000 undergraduates and less than 1,000 graduates, which, to me, makes the University seem more like a community than if I were going to University of Toronto or another big university. The campus is also physically small, fitting almost entirely within one (albeit large) city block, so I can get to any of my classes within 10 minutes crawling with one arm.

I very much agree with what Santaro said. My University's about 2 hours away from where I live, so it isn't a big hassle to come home. I go home every few weeks, usually. It's nice to see old friends, etc.

Now, location is damn important. Wilfrid Laurier, my University, is in the city of Waterloo, but the city of Kitchener has grown in to Waterloo, so it's like one big city. I'm close to everything I'd want to be (bars, concert halls, etc.), but the city isn't nearly as hectic or busy as Toronto, which I really like. It's an hour away from Toronto, so it's damn easy for me to head in to the city when I feel like it, and it's about 45 minutes away from Canada's Wonderland, our biggest amusement park.

So that was my thought process when choosing my University.
