So over the past few weeks, I've been hearing some awful things from people about Chopper, the droid. I personally don't mind him that much, he's handy when he needs to be and I don't mind as much that he's an asshole. So what do you guys think about this controversial little guy?

He doesn't really bring anything to the team (unlike the other characters, his presence has rarely been necessary) and puts them into more danger than he could ever help them get out of. He helped in Breaking Ranks, but when he got fried in Gathering Forces and Zeb manned the guns in Chopper's place, it really highlighted how unnecessary Chopper is.

Yeah, while I was watching Gathering Forces, I actually forgot that Chopper got fried. And then they showed him and I was like, "When did this happen?"

Part of its been down to the crew's activities being more physical and involving traditional methods of causing mischief, rather than something that might require a droid - ie, hacking into data terminals and such. And, well, unlike R2-D2, for when such circumstances arise that he can't be hacking anything, he can't even plug himself into the back of a fighter (albeit for lack of one) to make himself useful back there. Add that to the times he's nearly gotten people killed thanks to his antics (albeit at times due to a bad prompt), and he overall doesn't make much of a positive impact. I mean, heck, when Ezra was infiltrating the Imperial Academy, that would have been a perfect chance to put Chopper to use, but all he does is relay messages back and forth.
