Character pictures necessary?

I've been tinkering around with my "character-to-be" in the workshop, and while I've at least got a feel for who my character will be, there is one major obstacle.

The picture. While I have a pretty good idea of how I want him to look in my mind, finding a picture to match the description seems just about as likely as winning the lottery.

Is a picture truly needed? Can I go without one provided I describe his physical composition in detail?

Nah, they're not required. Nice, but not required

A picture isn't required, no. Many people find it helps, but it's not mandatory by any means.

Yes it is required, it's in the rules I know because I wrote them.

There are a few artists on the site that would probably be happy to do a sketch/color sketch of the character for a commission... *insert shameless plug*

But in all seriousness, if you cannot find a perfect match, don't sweat it. They are more flare and fanfare to the sheet and it help solidify the 'picture you are painting with your words' for some. I have done character art for myself and the occasional collab/trade with Tweed. Another option is photo-manipulation, if you are photoshop savvy.

I have a similar problem in that I meticulously design each character's appearance in my head, so it's impossible to find an accurate image of them. I am a person who is prepared to pay for art commissions though, so that's something to consider. Fiverr has many great, and low-priced artists.

It's well worth the cost for an entirely unique portrait of a character you designed, and it's a very satisfying experience to work with the artist to see your vision come to life.

I appreciate it, thank you. Though I think I'm going to try hiring someone to make one for me. That way I can get it exactly how I want it.
