DESCRIPTION
The Carrack-class frigate is a small warship designed and produced by the Damorian Manufacturing Corporation, and widely considered to be the junkyard nek of capital ships. Well made and exceedingly sturdy in its layout and construction, the Carrack dates all the way back to the Clone Wars and the Republic Navy, and has served in the navies of all major Galactic powers since. There are many good reasons for the design's longevity, of course.

The Carrack-class frigate is a 350-meter-long vessel supported by a crew of 1,100 personnel, plus 150 passengers, 3,500 tons of cargo and 1 year worth of consumables. The ship has an unusually heavy armament for its size, including heavy turbolasers, medium lasers, numerous ion cannons and tractor beams. Despite this, the Carrack does not excel in a conventional line of battle; the ship is extremely fast for a capital craft, capable of a flank speed of 80 MGLT, with its intended purpose being fast attacks against enemy fleet formations, similar to a very large starfighter. In general, Carracks are capable of going up against warships many times their own size, with heavy shields and well thought out damage control measures allowing them to absorb levels of damage that would cripple lesser frigates. It is not uncommon, for example, for salvage teams picking over nearly unrecognizable Carrack wrecks to discover crew-beings still alive in sealed areas, owing to the vessel's unique, compartmentalized life support system.

Notably, Carrack-class frigates have no internal hangar facilities, although common practice is to attach 4 starfighters to the vessel's external docking rings.

In Imperial service, Carrack-class frigates were generally used as low-priority system patrol craft, and - in the rare instances that the Galactic Empire was forced to contend with one - blockade runners. They were also used as pickets and heavy scouts by larger fleet formations. These roles continued into the New Republic era, as did many of the Carracks themselves, as their sturdy design, relatively small size and relatively heavy firepower made them attractive to the new Galactic government.

In the present day, Carrack-class frigates can still be found in many system and sector defense fleets.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Carrack-class frigates are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To add a ship from Canon to our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
Carrack-class frigates are large capital ships with heavy weapons, and such vessels cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. They may be acquired as faction assets, however.
