They say the dark is generous, and it is patient, and that it always wins. This much is true. However, they also say that in the heart of its strength lies a weakness: one lone candle is enough to hold it back, that love is more than a candle and that love can ignite the stars. But, the candle was lit. The candle failed.
They failed.
Carden returned.
History...
The story and curse of Carden Mannux was a delicate one, his mind being one that would require much thought simply to begin to understand it. Thirty-three years prior to the re-emergence of the Sith Empire under the rule of the Dark Lord Viscerus, a young and unmarried Chiss teenager gave birth to a bastard son within the refugee sector of Nar Shaddaa. She named him Carden Izar Mannux. When he was three, his mother formed a relationship with a fellow refugee that quickly turned violent.
When Carden was five years of age, he witnessed his mother’s violent lover brutally rape and murder her in front of him. Fearing for his own life, he ran throughout the complex and stowed away on a ship that found its way to Thule. In the ancient Thulian city of Kessia, there lived a Dark Jedi Master named Conrath. Seeing Carden’s strong sensitivity to the Force, he was taken in as an apprentice. He also found another homeless child, a girl named Rajani Zahara, and took her in as well. Conrath built a Dark Jedi sanctuary in Kessia, but by the time Carden was thirteen they had abandoned it.
In their new temple on Ruusan, Carden and Rajani trained alongside one another for years in an attempt to become Conrath’s one, true apprentice. A love was eventually sparked between the two young disciples, one that was as strange as it was passionate. At first, it was more of a physical relationship, but it turned into a true, genuine love. However, that love eventually ended in betrayal.
After years of rigorous training, their final task was upon them. The victor would become the apprentice and the loser an outcast, sentenced to face the outside world on their own. Rajani was far more powerful than Carden, so she was the odds-on favorite. She managed to infiltrate the Republic Embassy on Mon Calamari and assassinate the senators and ambassadors there. Carden, luckily, was much better with technology than she was. During the mission, he followed her and forged a security video showing him as the assassin rather than her. He returned it to Conrath and was chosen to become the apprentice. Rajani left immediately after watching Carden betray her, the anger of the betrayal still seething in her heart.
Seven years later, Carden killed Conrath and proclaimed himself to be a Dark Jedi Master. Hoping to gain more power, he traveled to Dxun and made his way through the forests to the Tomb of Freedon Nadd. It was there that he came face to face with Darth Zios, the Dark Lord of the Sith and one of only two Sith in existence. Carden proclaimed himself to be one who would eventually become a Lord of the Sith, but Zios laughed him off and deemed him to be far too weak to even be accepted among his own people.
Refusing to tolerate such an insult, Carden lashed out and attacked him, as he believed himself to be the stronger. Zios ordered Carden’s capture and brought him into the tomb. He was held there and tortured for information about the Dark Jedi for months, though he refused to say anything. One night, be broke free of his chains and murdered the Dark Lord of the Sith, stealing his crimson blade. As he attempted to escape, he was exposed to the powers of Freedon Nadd, somehow making him immensely stronger. He managed to escape unscathed and disappeared.
