Character Information

  • Calvyn Eltros stands fairly tall at 6'1" and tends to keep his body posture straight. He walks like a man whom has been in the military for a long time. His chin held high and proud, his mannerisms clear and decisive and his eyes unwavering. He has short but loose dark hair and trimmed facial hair on his head which he keeps well maintained. His skin is fair and a few age marks can be seen on him, giving him the look of a worn out and tired man. Even though Calvyn is only thirty three he looks older due to his life stress as a Jedi Guardian.

He is in very good shape which comes natural for a soldier who has spent the majority of his life fighting. He has the physique of a long distance runner with lean muscles and longish legs. His hands are rough and calloused, his body scarred through years of fighting. On his chest and back there are a few cuts that run diagonal along his flesh. On his left calf he has the bite mark of a large beast imprinted upon his skin.

  • Calvyn Eltros was brought to the Jedi as an infant baby by a man he would never know. Raised within the Order with his twin sister Natara the pair of Eltros children grew up as part of the Jedi family. No one however came closer to Calvyn then his sister as the two were inseparable. Often times their elders would warn them of their attachment to one another. Saying such strong emotion could cause one to turn to the Darkside as seen before with the Exiles.

The two of them largely ignored this sentiment as they saw nothing could tear the twins away from each other, not even the Force. This is not to say Calvyn ignored his teachers entirely, actually far from it. He obeyed the tenants of the Jedi code and lived by those rules. Always determined to uphold what it meant to be a Jedi regardless of the scrutiny put upon during the dark times of the war. At that time the Jedi and Exile conflict was nearing an end, however none could predict it then.

Even as a young boy Calvyn wanted to fight for his Order. Full of naivete and romanticized stories of war and glory. Looking back on it his path to becoming a Guardian could have been foreseen. Sadly it was not prevented, even if Natara warned him not to go, begged him to stay away from the war. The last triggering event was when he was told the story about what happened to the Jedi who brought him to the Order. The man he had never known rescued Calvyn and his sister from the clutches of an Exile. Then brought the two of them to the Jedi.

He wanted to be like this man, to save the innocent and protect the weak. Like every Jedi Calvyn strived to do good within the galaxy. To end the conflict that threatened so many and destroyed so many more. Thus he enlisted into the Guardians at seventeen and started to fight with his fellow brothers.
Training with a master who taught him to fight the Exiles. Experience of the war was the best teacher however. Cold, brutal and unforgiving the years Calvyn was away fighting had a drastic change on him.

He spent the rest of his life as a militant Jedi. Fighting alongside others within his Order. He killed those who turned to the Darkside. Watched as the people he once called friends fell to the evil he was sworn to destroy. Visited worlds plagued with death and destruction because of the war. All of this hurt Calvyn deeply but it only strengthened his resolve to continue the fight. In his eyes the Exile's were monsters that needed to be put down. Slowly but surely the great Jedi war, his war, began to consume him.

When he'd return from the war front to visit his sister a piece of his old self would be gone. He knew that she saw him in a different light, her once vibrant and youthful brother wiped away by the terrors of war. For the first time ever an uneasy silence would fall between them. A burden both knew they held but neither would speak about its weight out of fear that it'd crush their relationship.

So Calvyn would return to the war for months on end with no communication with his sister. However e
verything changed on Ilum when the Jedi felt that it would be the last major battle of the war. Natara decided to join Calvyn and fight alongside him, like many Jedi when they thought this battle might end the war. So the twins fought together and suffered for the last time. When the battle was over Calvyn held his dying sister in his arms. There she revealed to him that he was an uncle. She made him promise to look after her son, who she had while she was away from the Jedi in hiding. Knowing full well of the Jedi's attitude toward love within the Order. Calvyn agreed to look after the boy and soon after Natara died.

After the death of his sister on Ilum Calvyn's will finally broke. The great Jedi war took everything that he held dear and replaced it with a boy he never met. Asa was his name and after all the years Calvyn was away his sister hid the child from him. However he would make good on his promise to his dying sister. Calvyn adopted Asa as his apprentice but he never told the boy of their relation. He couldn't bring himself to admit the fact that he had failed his sister. How could he explain to the child that he was with his mother when she died? That he couldn't protect her? So Calvyn stayed silent and continued to hold the great weight on his shoulders.

He now resides on Jedha with the other Guardians. His former self is cracked and broken, replaced by a colder man with the thick shadow of war looming over him. He's vowed to protect his nephew and keep him out of the war. He wants nothing more than to end the Exiles, to protect his Order and give his nephew a different path than the one he chose.

  • Calvyn is a man who has spent much of his life fighting a war. As such he has learned to shut himself off emotionally and rarely speaks of what he did while fighting. He's learned to live with his past and seems more concerned with the future of the Jedi Order than anything else. That motivation is the main thing that keeps him waking up everyday. He can come off cold to those who don't understand him or know him well. Believing that the end goal justifies the means of getting there.

He tends to be a more logical thinking individual and will never let emotions cloud his judgement. In a way he killed the side of him that feels after losing both his father and sister to the war effort. Calvyn has never been romantically involved with a woman and is strict in the Jedi codes teachings of forming relationships. He's dedicated to the Order and it's survival no matter the cost. His only remaining family is that of his nephew Quentin whom is Calvyn's lifeline to the world. The boy makes Calvyn feel something, see colors in a life riddled in black.

Although Calvyn is not the best friend to have he is a good one. He offers solutions to problems much better than he does emotional support. He cares for the well being of others more than himself and will often neglect his own needs to provide for those he loves. He is by no means selfish or uncaring. Often Calvyn will go out of his way to help those in need. That being said he does have values and core beliefs that, once infringed, can insult him. He's the type of man whom never forgets an insult or a kindness often lingering on them for days. He keeps his word always and will never betray a promise.

He has the paining memory of holding his dead sister which will haunt him forever. Sometimes he has flashbacks to the war and will often downplay their impact upon him. He spends a lot of time meditating to help with his grief as the force provides a sense of peace to a man riddled with the experience of war.

I'm still going to edit this but I decided to post what I have seeming how it's very late/early here. The general Idea of the character is there and I'd be open to any feedback one may have.

Thanks

Hey there,

I know you said you are still working on this, let me know if I need to move it to the workshop board if you would like some time to finish. The issue with his backstory is that the whole family just kind of ignores the restriction on attachments and romantic relationships. This wasn't just frowned upon in the Order, it is forbidden and failing to abide by that restriction would be seen as taking a step towards the Dark Side. This isn't to say that his parents can be apart of the Jedi, but I think you need to do a bit more detail on how this was hidden. Calvyn seems to know all along who his parents are, and again the attachment between parent/child would be forbidden. The same applies to his sister, she would also need to actively hide the fact that she had a family. It should also be noted that children (especially those surrounded by Jedi Masters who can sense thoughts) are very bad at keeping secrets such as this.

Some minor re-writes should make everything alright. Tag me when changes are made and I take another look!

Hey buddy. So, I know we've been coordinating from the start, but I'm thinking that it might be overkill to have both Calvyn's mother and Natara be in a secret relationship. You've got a little blurb on the backstory of where Calvyn came from, but the question is whether that matters. From Calvyn's perspective, he only knows that he's been with the Jedi order since he was a babe and that he has a twin sister. Unless you plan to do something with his roots, I'd leave the backstory about his father and mother out. Heck, if you leave it out for now, you'll have more flexibility further down the line when you want to develop that part of his past some more.

It seems to me that you've made his core motivation to be caring about Natara's child (me!) which makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside but! ... you don't spend too much time explaining why this is so important to him. Yeah, it's his sister's child, but for all I know he'd have gone straight to the Jedi council and tells them this truth. My question is: why does he care so much about Natara's child and why would be want to keep this information to himself? I suspect the first part of an answer would be that he's very close to his sister, but if that's the case it may be worthwhile to spend a few paragraphs on what made their relationship so special. Does he still have some kind of token from her or is Quinten all that is left of her? Does he know or care to know who the father is? Would it be a good secondary motivation for Calvyn to want to pursue the Exile that killed his sister?

(What if the kilker is the father o.0)

Also, it'd be interesting to read about his values some more. What is Calvyn's take on the Jedi code? What about the whole having no relationships thing? Does the whole episode with Natara make him second guess his beliefs?

Point being, Calvyn's motivations seen centered around the live he had for his sister, so it may be worthwhile to flesh that out some more.

I don't have much else to remark content-wise. You've got a few funky parts where you switch tense in your description, but I'm not sure if you're interested in grammar stuff. Honestly it doesn't bother me, but I can point to a few things if you like. Totally up to you. Let me know ;)

You make good points, thanks for giving it a read through. As soon as I get back to my computer I'll address the things you mentioned as best I can.
