- Cain Kilgrave was born into poverty on Nar Shaddaa to a Kiffar named Temriel Kron and his human wife Lyana Kilgrave. His father was always very secretive about his past, and took to taking shady jobs for various Hutt crime lords to make money for the family. Because Temriel was rarely around, Cain was raised mostly by his mother, who viewed him only as a mistake she'd made. As a result, she refused to accept him and made it quite obvious that she hated him whenever possible. The young boy soon sought to escape from this pain through music. He taught himself to play the electric guitar and when he was 12 he attempted to join a local club band to make more money for his parents. However, this first encounter with other people showed him how society works. They allowed him to join, but only harrassed him about the recent failures of his father's jobs and his mother's former job as a prostitute, among other things. He felt rejected, and this encounter left him a bitter introvert with a very pessimistic view of others.
- A few months after Cain turned 14, he and his mother were taken from their home by the forces of a Hutt named Drego, as payment for Temriel's debts and failed missions. They were separated soon after and the young boy never saw his mother again, though he later heard she'd been sold into prostitution. Meanwhile, he was sent to the gladiator pits, where he became a hardened warrior after numerous fights, sometimes against far superior opponents. By the time he was 20, he'd become proficient in many forms of combat, especially in melee and hand-to-hand. Cain eventually decided that he could do much more elsewhere in the galaxy. Because he was undefeated for the past year, he had some degree of freedom, and convinced Drega to let him fight all the other gladiators in a row, in exchange for his freedom. Winning, he took some prize money, got onto a bus and left the planet for Coruscant.
- Cain arrived on Coruscant in search of a greater purpose, and found some satisfaction in working as part of an elite squad of the Republic judicial forces. He felt best while fighting, but also felt like he never truly belonged. He did this for about 6 years, before quitting to explore more of the galaxy. Although he enjoyed the rush of the job, he made no friends andd was riddiculued for his mixed heritage. Through the Holonet he learned about the new Sith Empire, both their past as exiles and present, and took a liking to them almost immediately. He respected not only their brutality in battle, but also the cunning with which they'd returned to power. He began working as a bounty hunter, and eventually took a bounty for his own father, who he blamed for his rough childhood. He killed him without a second thoght. He never took jobs for the money, only for the rush of adrenalin while fighting.
- Cain is of average height and has a darker skin tone, along with the typical hair of a Kiffar, a trait inherited from his father. He is muscular, but not extremely so and some would describe him as being somewhat lithe.
- Cain is a natural introvert, partially due to the fact that he feels rejected by most of society. He seeks companionship, but his true goal is me accumulation of more power. In his mind, create power means the ability to take on more powerful foes, resulting in a thrilling fight. Currently, he lives to fight and enjoys the rush he gets while doing so. However, he does seek to have a great purpose besides just fighting for the sake of fighting, and this has led him to research about the new Sith Empire. Despite being a former slave, he has no problems with slavery because he blamed his father for the situation he was placed in.
