DESCRIPTION
The Bulwark-class battlecruiser is a heavy warship which was originally designed by TransGalMeg Industries Incorporated for the Techno Union. After the outbreak of the Clone Wars, they entered the service of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, and were built under license by the SoroSuub Corporation at shipyards in the Outer Rim.

The Bulwark is a huge ship, 2,500 meters in length, with a crew of 20,000 personnel. It can carry up to 40,000 passengers, plus 10,000 tons of cargo and consumables for up to 2 years in space. Armament consists of 10 octuple-mount heavy turbolaser casemates, 5 each port and starboard, which give the ship a withering broadside against most other capital ships. Secondary armaments include 12 quad light turbolaser turrets, 48 quad medium laser turrets for close-in defense, and a pair of fixed heavy ion cannons mounted in the bow. The Bulwark can carry up to 10 squadrons of starfighters, plus various support craft such as shuttles. It has a top speed of 50 MGLT, and boasts a class 4 hyperdrive.

Notably, the Bulwark was one of the few major CIS warships which was not intended to operate with a droid crew. It lacked the central control computer common to many of its siblings.

At the outbreak of the Clone Wars, the shipyards at Foerost, where much of the Techno Union's Bulwark fleet was laid up or under construction, was blockaded by the Galactic Republic. Thus, the role of the Bulwark in the conflict was fairly limited, until - 2 years into the siege - an ambitious Separatist admiral staged a successful breakout of the Techno Union fleet. He and his Bulwark battlecruisers rampaged throughout the Coruscant Oversector, causing untold damage to Republic worlds in a series of attacks until they were finally engaged and defeated by a large force which included several prototype Victory-class heavy cruisers. It is believed that these actions extended the Clone Wars by as much as 6 months, and - had they been followed up properly by the regular CIS fleet - could have altered the outcome of the war.

Meanwhile, at Sullust in the Outer Rim, the SoroSuub Corporation built a number of Bulwark-class battlecruisers under license. Given their organic crew requirements, they were not the most numerous ships in the CIS fleet, however they were among the most powerful, their presence ensuring a number of important Separatist victories. After the end of the war, their non-droid architecture allowed them to mostly avoid the broad shutdown command apparently issued by the Separatist Council. A number of their crews questioned the order to surrender, and would go on to fight the Empire as potent Separatist holdouts for many years. Ultimately, most of those which survived long enough to witness its rise defected to the Alliance to Restore the Republic, which had fewer qualms about using Bulwarks than other, more recognizable CIS ships.

In the present day, Bulwark-class battlecruisers can still be found, albeit in small numbers. As the Galaxy marches to war, however, more and more of these craft have been dredged out of museums, bone yards and scrap heaps across the Galaxy.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Bulwark-class battlecruisers are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities. Even then, they are ridiculously expensive to operate; only a relatively large faction or decently well-off planetary government would be able to afford it without swiftly bankrupting themselves. An individual would stand no chance.

INTENT
To bring a vessel from canon into our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
Bulwark-class battlecruisers are large capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. They may be acquired as a faction asset with staff oversight.
