Apparently, there is a bullet proof backpack that was initially though of not long after columbine. Unfortunately, I'm fairly sure that it would be useless in my school as we put our backpacks in our lockers before school starts. In my opinion, it would be more suited for a trapper, binder, or school book. Any other opinions?

I don't know. I don't see a use for it. Maybe instead of making protection against psychotic school shooters, they should find a way to deal with the shooters themselves.

But it might be a good idea for the military.

I saw this on Glenn Beck. It's pretty cool.

At my school, we can pretty much take our bags everywhere.

 why not just wear riot gear to school, it would be more effective

I think its a cool idea but a kind of really paranoid idea.

Get two of them and wear on in the front and one in the back.

what if you get shot in the front?[/b]

Then you could put it to your front and put your back to a direction that won't be able to shoot from like a wall. Then hope that he doesn't get a head shot.

Yeah and take the risk of being shot five times, then the backpacks really useful...

This is all paranoid bullshit, you can't prevent school shootings by essentially giving every kid a Kevlar vest, kids are going to get killed, it's tragic, but it happens regardless of the "protection". This idea falls short one iota from being on par with the "use your books for protection kiddies!"

This whole thing is what's wrong with parents today, don't go door to door for candy on Halloween, don't go play outside, don't defend yourself when in a fight, and now use your backpacks to deflect bullets and knives.

Even though kids will probably die, we might as well do as much as we can to save them. The other alternatives to stopping school shootings aren't great either like getting rid of guns or sending every kid who seems even slightly psycotic to a psycologist.

I'm a fan of allowing psychologically stable teachers to carry guns on campus. But for that to happen, the education system is going to have to get it's shit together.

That's not a wise idea. People can be psychologically stable at one point but become psychologically unstable later on.

True enough... "break glass in case of shooting"...?

So only let administrators carry guns along with the police officers on campus.

Not even Administrators. They could snap too. Even though a police officer could as well, I would really only feel comfortable with them having guns on campus.

Guarantee you if Cho walked on a Texas campus and one of those kids had a gun, he'd be down in a minute flat. Cho never was nor will he ever be Charles Whitman

What are the chances that an administrator is just going to snap and pull out the shotgun? It doesn't happen, not even in movies. The chances that an administrator is just going to snap are about the same as you dying in a terrorist attack. One in a million.
