In shocking news, Senator Annelyn Lerytel of Gatalenta was found dead earlier this morning. The cause of death appears to be a long ranged rifle wound. It’s clear this was an assassination job and signs already point to notorious assassin and bounty hunter Basilisk. A manhunt is underway for his capture but citizens are cautioned against engaging this man. This assassin is also responsible for the high profile deaths of former Chancellor Emil Ro and Admiral Munty of Mon Cala.

Senator Lerytel was known for her strong convictions and commitment to her principles. Always sharp with her words, she was a big proponent of continuing alliances with the Jedi. Gatalenta had strong relationships with the Jedi in the past, but that sentiment has harshly swung in the opposite direction in the past few decades. Unfortunately, Senator Lerytel made countless enemies on her own planet from her times of openly allying herself with the Jedi. There were many citizens that felt this would thrust Gatalenta into a war with the Sith.

Tensions came to a head when the Senator attempted to take the fall for the now-imprisoned Kuat Senator’s radical proposal to build clones for the Jedi.

While investigations are ongoing, it’s certain that anyone that hired the Basilisk clearly has deep pockets. Hunting the assassin is underway, but the real mystery is who hired him to begin with.

Gatalenta will mourn the passing of Senator Lerytel and hold a day of remembrance. She leaves behind four children and eight grandchildren, all of whom have taken shelter with added security should they be targeted as well.

Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl turned away from the holonet in his office, speechless for several seconds. Another New Republic politician assassinated, and it didn't take a genius to notice a pattern.

Alexander Xeres had replaced Emil Ro as Supreme Chancellor after the latter's murder. Now, one of the Senators who had had the courage to publicly stand up to Xeres- brave Senator Lerytel- was also killed... by the very same assassin.

Suddenly, the Wookiee feared for Senator Kalist's safety (@Sreeya). There's no such thing as coincidences. The advice that Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl had often given to others over his 400+ years now rang inside his own head. The FWA had absorbed several Rangers who had left the New Republic following the faction's disbanding there- also at the behest of the Supreme Chancellor- and had brought with them both contacts and connections; those could be quietly leveraged in the FWA's favor. The Senator of Kashyyyk summoned an aide.

"I want a copy of those investigation results on my desk ASAP. And see what we can find out about where Senator Kalist is being held." The aide nodded and hurried off.

"...and Markkk?"

The aide stopped, almost to the door.

"We never had this conversation."

Aharon sat back and rubbed his chin. His eyes wide and mouth slightly agape. Even in his wildest dreams did he not expect Xerxes to go this far. No, it wouldn't be him, the coincidence would be to obvious. The same killer doing a deed against the opposition of this tyrant in the making would be to obvious. He felt for her, the poor Senator did not deserve to die. He thought of ways he could help; donations, offers of aid, anything. His mind raced as he sag back in his chair.

Yet with all the thinking he could do, he could do nothing more than speak publicly about this and quickly. Even a news outlet would be to slow. So he logged into his personal Switter account to post a simple post on, one most would think he didn't mean when he really did, and he posted it soon after the news dropped.

Tremendous news!

Mordo was pleased, because he had clearly underestimated the character of this Chancellor! The zeal, the panachè, the sheer force of will to have your rivals assassinated - if Mordo could have, he would have smiled.

Perhaps the Red Nebula would need to reconcile with the New Republic, and consider a change in alliance?

Mordo shook his head. No. These fools in the New Republic still had to pretend to be democratic, something Mordo never bothered with. Behind him, the blaster doors to his inner sanctum opened - the large golden 'M' that dominates the doors splitting down the middle to reveal a detachment of Mord-Bots, arriving to escort him to his ship.

"Mordo demands his best wishes to be sent to the Chancellor, for seeing off this recent coup-d'etat, immediately." the Tyrant of the Red Nebula commanded, as he stalked through the cavernous halls of his lair, to attend to the business of the day.

It was a good day to be bad.

A final bit of makeup was placed upon the Supreme Chancellor’s face as the camera rolled into place before his private desk. This wasn’t the time for grandiose appeals, he needed to appear more a man than a politician. Inviting the public into his private domain was the best trick, there were no Republic flags in the background, or details of Alexander’s rank on the desk, it was just him in a light grey suit sat behind an old oak desk a few papers spread around him. As the makeup artist stepped back an aide counted him down as the cameras began to roll.

“My fellow members of the New Republic, it saddens me today to hear of the death of one our esteemed and treasured members of the Senate, Annelyn Lerytel. My heartfelt condolences go out to all of her family and friends during this difficult time and I ask that all respect their privacy as they mourn the passing of a loved one.” He began in a sombre tone.

“Although we did not see eye to eye on every issue I valued Senator Lerytel’s steadfast loyalty to her people and the Republic, her strong backbone, stiff words and sharp wit. She will be sorely missed and the galaxy as a whole is worse off without her in it.”

“The New Republic Security Bureau will work hand in hand with their Gatalenta brethren in the hunt for her killer, a reward for any information related to Senator Lerytel’s tragic passing has been given at one hundred thousand Republic Credits. Any reward money supplied will also be matched as a charitable donation towards a charity of the Lerytel family's choice.”

“Today we mourn the passing of a beautiful spirit, Annelyn Lerytel you will be missed.”

"And Darth Strafos!" Amira called out, as if the monitor was listening, dragging a hand through her silver hair as the news reporter began to list some of the Basilisk's most renowned victims. The Tiefling clicked her tongue, adding to her companion, "They always forget Darth Strafos."
Vincent made no reply. He simply stared at her out of dead, yellow eyes, waiting for her to share her popcorn with him. Amira tossed him her usual, obligatory levy—a handful of kernels to keep him satisfied. If she didn't, he would drag his horns along the sides of the bowl. He had that look in his eyes, and Amira didn't want to have to explain to Ma why her Great Aunt Hester's porcelain bowl was cracked.

Hunting the assassin is underway, the news reporter continued, and Amira frowned. This was the part she hated the most, when the rush and the excitement faded, and she was left to fear for the Firrerreo's safety. Sometimes for days or weeks on end. "Don't worry," she consoled the goat in a low voice, scratching him behind the ears. He wasn't listening, his head buried between the couch cushions searching for a lost kernel. "He knows how to take care of himself." The longer Edin was gone, the more she doted on her farm animals.

Pulling her dataphone from the pocket of the fuzzy, oversized pajamas she wore, she messaged Edin. I miss you <3

Emojis so weren't the Tiefling's style, but Edin was the exception to a lot of rules. She stared at the screen, transfixed with the blue light, hoping she would see the text bubble appear, but it never did. He was probably using a burner phone right now. It could be days until he saw her message. With a heavy sigh, she swiped over to Switter. @Sreeya
