How many ways can you say 'before' or 'until' in any language? I'm trying to work with a concept but it's not working well >.>

I'm trying to translate a long block of text into mando'a, but they have no definite reference to time, aside from a few prefaces which, in all practicality, do nothing but change tense. In this instance, I'm trying to say 'before *event*' or 'until *event*' so that I can describe the life he held before the life-changing event (which I haven't decided on yet >.>).

Trust me, asking others for lingual help is a last resort, I've hit every reference and book I can find (both in my personal library and online) looking for an answer.

What exactly are you looking for?

The number of ways you can say "before" or "until" will vary from language to language and I'm a little confused as to what you're asking.

I need a way to say 'before' or 'until' without using the english grammatic equivalent. For example, "Until recently" is not a phrase in the mando'a dictionary and "Before this happened" can't be made, but that's exactly what I need to do....

I'll post the line from the rough draft that I'm trying to translate:
"Until my wife and daughter were killed"

That can be done a myriad of ways in english, but there isn't a direct grammatic equivalent within the mando dictionary....

The mando word "akay" means until. This is according to the one I'm using, on Karen Traviss' website.
