DESCRIPTION​

The Barrenfist-class cruiser is a vessel created by the newly formed Republic to serve as both a Flagship and support vessel for dire problems on member planets of the Republic. Boasting considerable firepower, though less so than ships like the Sith's Asperse-class Cruiser, it's true value is in the versatility it offers outside of direct combat. Equipped with a state of the art medbay and a larger hangar for shuttles and starships, a Barrenfist can provide medical and logistical support for emergencies requiring it. The ship also boasts the most advanced sensor and communication suite currently available, making it effective as a mobile base of operations.

The Barrenfist is one of the most heavily armed Republic warships for its size, equipped with 20 dual medium laser turrets, 10 dual heavy laser turrets and 10 of turbolaser turrets, and two tubes each of Assault Concussion Missiles and Heavy Proton Torpedoes, allowing it to deal with most capital ships of similar size. It is not suited to fighting small craft such as fighters, however, so besides its own fighter complement the ship usually has an escort of Corvettes and the like to cover it from the fire of smaller craft. The Barrenfist does have hangar bays in the central portion of the ship, large enough for twenty starfighters and eight shuttles.

The name of the ship comes from the legendary Republic Soldier Talos Barrenfist, a hero of the Republic from just before it's annexation into the Sith Empire. Known for his sheer tenacity and loyalty to the Republic, his name was chosen to make these ships to be symbols of the values of the Republic. Barrenfist-class cruisers, due to their vulnerability against starfighters and other small craft, typically operate within fleets, or in tandem with support vessels. In times of peace they tend to travel alone to the systems requesting their aid, their onboard fighters enough to handle small threats They are among the largest vessels operated by the Republic, and are symbolic of the government's desire to utilize ships of war for peacetime activities.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Barrenfist-class cruisers are not as common as other Republic warships, and are considered capital craft, generally making them illegal for civilian ownership. Almost all extant examples are also property of the Republic.

To create a standard type of cruiser and flagship used by the Republic while also giving it possible uses outside of combat.
