Balur Kidd
Space Pirate, Dark Jedi, Absolute Scoundrel

Sarcastic and clever, but no more powerful than an average Sith or Jedi Knight, Balur Kidd has made a name for himself by attacking passenger ships and freighters, using his powers for personal gain and plunder while the Galaxy rots. He has some morals, as some of our interviewers have returned alive and well to be able to report to us, but he's generally a jerk. He either targets rich inner rim individuals or groups he deems "wretched," and kills them in cold blood, or he robs wealthy company freighter ships for their goods and/or droids, which he cycles through regularly. He carries two lightsabers he built himself, but uses only one at a time; either his red unstable lightsaber, or an iconic blue one.
He has few friends, but he typically operates alone. Companionship can be a burden to him, though he has fallen in love with a few particular women of interest in the past. If he's not romantically involved, he's usually indulging himself in any kind of pleasure he can afford. It doesn't happen often, and women are usually repulsed by his joking and sarcastic nature, and mannerisms, but there are occasional women who tend to see some sort of good in him. They're mostly dead now, of course, due to some sort of mission they foolishly wanted to accompany him on. Those tragedies were followed by drinking more than one should.
He is the definition of a pirate, with the attitude of a scoundrel, and the power of a Dark Jedi. He does as he feels inclined to do, and is not governed by any particular set of rules. He doesn't involve himself with Galactic affairs often, and can usually be found on the outer rim unless he's pirating with a crew he hired for the trip. While he tried to see himself as a savior to the poor, he ends up making himself appear to be just a lone pirate who cares for no one but himself, as any Anti-hero would be.

History Profile
Balur Kidd's origins, and how he came to the power he wields

Balur and his first love, Alana, raiding a casino on Nar Shadaa

Balur was born on Tattooine to a very poor father and mother who struggled just to keep themselves alive. He added to their domestic troubles, or at least they blamed it all on him, and almost left him in the dune sea to die. Before they had the chance, however, a Jedi who had been in the region sensed his presence, and swiftly came to the family to acquire him. They didn't hesitate in letting the Jedi have him, knowing he'd be better off with the Galactic Guardians of Peace than he would with them, and he was taken to one of their many temples where he would spend the rest of his childhood and much of his adolescence training and learning the ways of the Force. To their misfortune, his parents were inevitably raided by Sandpeople, who killed them and burned their home to the ground.
As a child, he worked hard and trained hard to prove himself to his master and the Jedi around him. He made himself harness his power and connect with the Force on a deeper level than many of his peers. This led him to seclusion and isolation. Many of his peers and fellow younglings tried to get him to interact with them and socialize, but he preferred to his studies over that. He did make a few friends, however. Only a few who got to know him well before his corruption to the Dark Side.
As time progressed and he entered into his late teen years, he became proficient with the lightsaber art of Shien, a variant of Form V. He honed his telekinetic skills and his telepathic abilities, and enhanced his art of healing through the Force. He became a force to be reckoned with throughout the temple he grew up in, and gained the respect of the Padawans he had grown up with, especially those who were his friends.. He succeeded in many duels, and passed many of his tests from the masters, and steadily made his way up to being ready for the rank of Knight.
Initially, he wanted nothing more than to follow the Jedi way of life and to be a Guardian of Peace. That was what he was. He once was kindhearted and a very funny person to be around. The Masters always told him that he joked around too much, and that those jokes would one day catch up to him. Unfortunately, as he took a trip to the shady undercity of a very powerful world in order to hunt down a Jedi Artifact, he would meet corruption that would change him for the rest of his life.
He found himself on Coruscant pursuing a shadowy figure through the deep underground of the city-world, where the vile and criminal of its populace lived. He saw all sorts of villainy and corruption that it began to warp his mind and twist his thinking. Morals that once guided him toward the light began to question what that light was in the first place. He began to wonder why he was even a part of the Order in the first place, living in his secluded, protective Light-Side bubble, and he stopped to see all the poverty and poor who wandered the streets of the undercity. His heart and mind broke, and he ceased his pursuit.
At that moment, he was confronted by the person he was a chasing, a female human Sith by the name of Mayris Jun, who questioned him. The conversation he recited is what follows;
"Why were you hunting me, Jedi?" Mayris asked.
"I honestly don't know anymore," Balur responded in a monotone voice.
"You aren't here to kill me, like your Jedi friends did with my master?"
"No... Jedi don't murder... And you speak as if you loved him."
"Are Sith not allowed to love? or have compassion? Or isn't it you Jedi who are devoid of emotion and deny the very things that make you who you are?"
"Stop calling me a Jedi," Balur growled.
"Are you not one?"
"Not anymore. I hate the Order. I hate the wretches that brought me into this Galaxy. I hate that the poor are here to rot in pain, and I hate the corruption I see all around me," Balur clarified.
"You're a curious case, you know... If I didn't sense that spark of darkness in your heart, I wouldn't have come back to you. But What you're feeling, no Jedi can help you with. I don't even think the Sith have a place for you... You need to seek the Force for yourself, and to discover who you really are," Mayris said calmly before she turned to walk away, leaving Balur there to ponder her words. He questioned how a Sith could have such wisdom to speak into his life.
So he left the Order. He acquired a ship on Coruscant with his saved credits, crafted his own armor that he occasionally donned, and built a second lightsaber for himself with the promise that some day he would learn to dual wield. He took a great interest in studying the Dark Side of the Force to acquire more power, but only succeeded in learning the art of Force Lightning and Force Illusion. He left it at that so that he could focus on those powers, but kept the holocrons he acquired for further study when he was ready.
He loosened the binds of the strict moral code of the Jedi for one that sounded, as he put it, more real. He did as he pleased, and he didn't care which side he was fighting. He hired crews when he wanted to go raiding on the ships of the wealthy or freighter ships of big corporations, but he never kept any crew to himself. He wanted as few personal ties as he could afford. His first lifelong companion was his droid; an astromech called R2-A7.
After a few years, into his early adulthood, He met a female human scoundrel named Alana at a local cantina when he was paying a visit with powerful and influential Hutt crime lord and friend of his. He described the meeting her at the bar as he was going to grab drinks for himself and the Hutt, and then watched her walk up on the dancer's stage and move like an angel. He was captivated, and when she was finished, went to meet her and get to know her.
Their romance blossomed quickly, and they were in a relationship within the first few months of meeting. She wasn't a Force user, but she could hold her own against them. She was able to hack into most security systems on computers, and made it a practice of hacking into bank accounts and stealing from them. It was later revealed that she was one of the Hutts' favorite thieves. Balur learned a lot from her, and taught her a lot as well. Though she wasn't able to use the Force, he taught her as much as a non Force user could learn about the Shien art of lightsaber combat.
They were together for years, falling deeper in love and carrying out missions with each other. They were open with each other and didn't hide anything about their pasts from each other. They knew each other inside and out, as if they were the others' favorite book. But Balur quickly saw how dangerous his life had become and how hard it would be to keep her safe with everything that he was going through.
The Republic had several warrants on his head, some crime lords had bounties placed on him. He explained everything to her, and though she was reluctant to let go of him, understood why he did it and didn't want to cause any stress on him. That was the only relationship that ended well, and with all dangers gone except the republic's continued warrants and one or two of the Jedi left standing, he would gladly take her back into his life.
Unfortunately, the other three relationships he was involved with romantically ended in tragedy; he was forced to watch as a Twi'Lek woman named Sirava Socor he loved was fed to a rancor after the both of them were captured by a crime lord named Bronok Igro, whom he killed shortly after in blackout rage; another falleen woman named Jish Groma was poisoned as they were having dinner one night by a bounty hunter named Krono Kimira, whom he slaughtered in front of the other patrons with them; and then a human girl named Sara Im was beheaded in front of him by a Jedi who was hunting him for the sake of "bringing him back to the Order for judgment." The Jedi didn't last long against him, and he later found out that the Jedi had gone rogue outside of the Order when he had an encounter with a Sith who drew out hatred and anger from his heart.
He continues to wait for the perfect opportunity to bring Alana back into his life, but claims he wants to make sure it's completely safe for her before that happens. Until then, he continues down his path of self-discovery, piracy, and being a Dark Jedi. Though he's not the most powerful, he makes an effort to ensure he's not messed with, and has no problems letting his temper flare. The most recent exploit of his is evidence of that.
He was on a relatively unknown world in the mid rim, getting ready to raid a wealthy settlement of a governor who indulged in extortion and black-mailing, as well as making unwanted and unneeded sexual demands from female workers and servants within the settlement. This may also be where his current morals may be examined; he favors the poor, those who are taken advantage of, women who are abused, children who are abused, and those whose opinions and ideas are right in any circumstance, even if the "righteous" think they aren't. These morals kicked in when he heard about what the governor was doing, and planned a raid where they would plunder the settlement and set free the servants there to find work on one of the inner rim worlds.
As their mission was coming to a close and he had killed most of those in favor of the governor, some of the crew he hired tried to force themselves on the women. So Balur turned on those men and cut them down like they were animals, no remorse or mercy in his actions. He made sure the rest of the crew knew how enraged he was, and threatened to do the same to them should they get the idea to do the same as those men did.
None the less, that is the past and character of Balur Kidd. Though he's an actual scoundrel with sarcasm from Hell, there are some morals to him. He's a force to be reckoned with, and his life is a violent one. Though there's romance, he rarely indulges in relationships of that magnitude and confines himself to the pleasures his credits and Force powers can afford him. He considers himself real, unlike those who stick so closely to the Jedi and Sith codes that they forget who they are. Perhaps, when he finally brings Alana back into his life and pursues a deeper relationship with her, he'll finally know who he really is.
