Biography
Under the Hapan Monarchy, the ruling family had unimaginable wealth, ruling over the Hapan people. These relatives often live extravagantly and act as they please. One such member was Kalen, the eldest son of the ruling Mother of the Hapes Cluster. He was a secretive man who usually lived up to the stereotype, acting as he pleased outside the public’s eye but what they did know about him seemed inconsistent. He, sometimes mistreated people but also often made them feel loved. The inconsistency didn't help when rumors started that he was unfaithful to his wife and had many mistresses. Turned out, the rumors were true. One night while Kalen was roaming the under streets of Hapes city, the largest city in the cluster, he met up with a woman. She was a street urchin of no particular value or skill except for her notable beauty. He took her on as a mistress, running off with her every so often until one day she came to him with disturbing news. She was pregnant with his illegitimate child.
This would have been a major blow to his prestige and be grounds for punishment and public ridicule beyond what would be accepted by his mother. He could not tolerate it and gave the woman a large sum of credits to stay quiet and leave him alone. He wished to have nothing to do with the child, he could not afford to blemish his name.
Taking the credits she spent lavishly on herself and enjoyed life, but was sure to avoid the royal family. When the baby finally arrived the joy was evident on her face, even being a single mother didn't bother her. The baby would live a fine childhood off the money his father had given them and he did. He lived not in such luxury he might have with Kalen but well off, food was always on the table and never put a foot in the slums. His mother always watching her little boy keeping him happy but also teaching him how to take care of himself, the value of what they had and how to be a gentleman. She was a good mother, no one would ask for more. Of course the time of a good happy childhood rarely lasts forever. Especially with a force sensitive boy in an Imperial controlled galaxy.
Kalen had kept tabs on his boy. He knew the kid did well in school and behaved himself. The man was proud of the boy even though he had never actually met him, and it was because of these tabs he had known the sith wanted the boy, apparently he was force sensitive and that meant he was going to Korriban, hardly the place for a boy with his attitude and lifestyle but it wouldn't be helped even if the royals came together to protect the boy it would only end with the sith coming down on them with their godly might. No, the boy had to go to Korriban but he could meet him at least once before he went.
And so Balin was four-teen the first and only time he met his father. Of course he had known who he was for years, but mother had been very clear in the fact he should never seek him out. Of course the surprise when mother introduced him had been more then one might have expected, the resemblance he had with his father was there if you looked, the eyes where identical. The small talk lasted only minutes before Kalen told his son who was coming and why, untrained in the force Balin had no real skill in using it, he couldn't do anything at all willingly. Though his instincts where quite good. How the sith found one so normal like him he didn't know but never has time to question. He went with the sith willingly, taking nothing with him other then a necklace he'd gotten his last birthday home.
With the sith for a full year Balin built a lightsaber and honed his skills as an Acolyte. Although not powerful in the force, the simple tasks of moving item to item where doable, it was lightsaber combat where the new Acolyte excelled, saber in hand duelling became a favourite pass time, even when the less forgiving students threatened him his temperament never changed. Balin was still the gentleman his mother taught him to be.
