Name: Asulians

Biology: Asulians are a race of cold blooded humanoid insects which resemble wasps. They typically have an exoskeleton color pattern consisting of yellow and black. Their eye's are protected by a thin layer of polarizing film to counteract the brightness of their system's sun and posses a set of wings, allowing them to fly. Asulian life spans typically run in between 70-85 galactic years before their organs start to fail from old age. Asulian physiology is not compatible with other species, it is rumored that they are able to reproduce with other insect-like beings such as Geonosians although no record of cross breeding currently exists. Asulian blood is a pale blue when oxygenated and a bright blue when enriched with oxygen, Asulian blood is infused with formic acid, causing it to fuse with organic matter and burn, causing pain some say is equivalent to "Being stung by hundreds of wasps." If removed immediately the only damage that will occur is slight burning of the skin and will disappear in a couple of days. Long term damage and permanent scarring can easily be avoided by wiping blood from the effected area although care should be taken to avoid contact with eyes and open wounds as prolonged exposure to Asulian blood may cause permanent damage.

Breeding: Asulians are a species of egg laying parasitoids, requiring a host for their young to be implanted in, this host acts as a source of food for the larvae and as a barrier from the elements until the young Asulian's exoskeleton forms. Gestation periods usually last about 3 monthes and by then the host is generally either dead or dying as the carcass is generally eaten by the emerging young and it's remains discarded. Because of this form of reproduction, large bone piles tend to form outside Asulian hives on their homeworld. Sex is determined by whether the egg is fertilized before implantation into a host, females are produced by fertilizing the egg, males by not fertilizing the egg. (See Haplodiploidy for a more in depth definition.)

Strengths: Asulians possess a chitinous exoskeleton instead of normal bones, this reduces their weight and allows them to achieve flight; where a normal adult human male would weigh 180Lbs a Asulian of the same size would normally weigh 100Lbs or less. In addition the chitin also serves as a harder layer of skin, providing the Asulians with a higher resistance to physical slashing attacks and small caliber rounds.

Weaknesses: Due to their low weight and reduced muscle mass, Asulians are not particularly strong and are particularly vulnerable to crushing blows. The chitin also regenerates at a slow rate, if a Asulian is injured resulting in an open wound a patch or sealant must be placed over the wound to prevent infection while the exoskeleton regenerates. Because they are cold blooded, low or freezing temperatures will cause an Asulian to go into a hibernation-like state.

Diet: Carnivorous; Asulians cannot digest plant matter

Behavior/Temperament: Asulians are a manipulative and suspicious race and as a result most members of this species are shrewd negotiators. Asulians tend to be slightly xenophobic as their distrust of outsiders stems from sudden exposure to all of the galaxy's various races, once exposed however Asulians tend to accept and associate with outsiders. They tend to be emotionally detached, rarely forming emotional bonds to members of other races as well as other Asulians.

Communication: Before the Asulians were introduced to the galactic community, they communicated with a combination of pheromones and clicks. Their vocal cords are capable of speaking basic although it sounds forced and broken. When speaking Galactic Basic, Asulians tend to use impersonal third person in speech: "this one" rather than "I" due to their insectoid nature as one amongst many.

Culture:

  • Force: Asulians embrace the force as a tool to survival and a necessity. In the early years of Asulian culture, once the force was discovered, a system of kin selection was put into practice to ensure that the future population had the ability to use the force. Thanks to this practice almost every member of the Asulian hives tend to have at at least a small connection to the force

  • Caste system: Asulians form a caste society based around each individuals own affinity and strength when using the force. Like any hive, the Asulian caste system determines the individual's job inside the hive. In order from top to bottom the system includes; Queens which lead the hive and are replaced once the previous one dies, soldiers which defend the hive from foreign invaders and hunt for food, and drones whos job it is to maintain the hive and care for the young. The lowest tier in the system is the outcasts. Outcasts are either the rejects from Kin selection or Asulians who have committed a high level offence against the hive

  • Military and Police: Asulians lack a military, instead possessing a planetary defense force dubbed ‘The Morjunta Defense Force’ or the MDF. They are charged with warding off attacking pirates and defending the planet from invasions should one ever arise. The planet’s ground level police force or ‘Peacekeepers’ are charged with enforcing laws, punishing criminals, quelling riots, and defending the government.

  • Crime and punishment: Asulian classification of offences comes in three levels. Low level offences are usually petty theft, disrespect, vandalism, and other victimless crimes. Low level offences are punished by either a monetary fine or time spent in the stocks which are set up in the courtyard of a hive or town. Mid level offences are classified as assault, robbery, accidental homicide, or other crimes against an Asulian or offworlder. These types of crimes are punished by ‘demoting’ the offender to a lower caste if they are a member of a hive or expulsion from the planet if the offender is an offworlder. Both offenders have the right to void their sentencing if they win a fight to the death in a gladiatorial arena. High level offences are crimes against the government, murder, arson, assault of a peacekeeper, treason, and other unforgivable crimes. High level offences are punished by public execution. Sentencing and prosecution is determined by a committee of 7 Asulians.

History:Regarded by many as savage hive minded insects; the Asulians were first discovered in 717ABY squabbling amongst one another for territory, game, and resources. Their first galactic encounter came when a group of rebels crashed their ship on the planets surface as they fled in a crippled vessel from Imperial pursuit. Viewed as an attack by a neighboring hive, the rebels where captured and used to incubate a group of Asulian young. Not long after the Empire, chasing the rebellion's distress signal, landed on the planet and discovered the fate of the downed vessel and her doomed crew via a hologram recording of the crew's capture left on the ships computer. They quickly retreated back to their ship and the planet was forgotten until 749ABY when a passing band of merchants picked up the distress signal, calling vainly for help for the last 32 years. Approaching the hives peacefully and eventually teaching a few members Basic, the planet soon unified as one with the arrival of more trade caravans. Mining operations were established on the mineral rich planet and the Asulians promised safe passage and allowed the miners to continue their exploits in exchange for goods, ships, and instruction on how to use them. Eventually learning how to construct their own technology and how to operate the off-worlder's forges. In 872ABY the Asulian government adopted the Credit as the planet's currency, replacing their primitive system of bartering. Since then the Asulians have opened the planet, previously closed to all but a select few, to everyone and allowed the building of cities so off-worlders would feel comfortable staying and trading with the Asulians.

In 986ABY disaster struck the as the star the Asulian home world, Morjunta, orbited finally collapsed and erupted in a violent supernova. In the next couple of days, before the shock-wave from the dieing sun destroyed the planet, a massive evacuation effort was staged by members of the Asulian hierarchy and various galactic organizations in order to save as many as possible. As the aftermath tore the planet apart and the sun imploded into a black hole, the surviving members of the Asulian government, the remnants of it's military, and civilians began the search for a new world to call home. Many Asulians abandoned the search and scattered around the galaxy, seeking security and and membership into society. The remaining 'loyalists' settled in the Fef system on a forested planet of the same name. Fef is naturally inhabited by swarms of the Fefze beetle, which the Asulians generally tend to avoid due to their collective sentience and desire to not provoke a conflict in the wake of loosing their homeworld. Since then their numbers have swelled, occupying 1/4th of the planet and protecting it as they did Morjunta.

Planet:
Formerly: Morjunta (Homeworld, destroyed by supernova)
Current: Fef [LINK]

Technology:Pre space faring, Asulian technology was primitive and nearly nonexistent as the species relied on bulk labor rather than time saving devices to accomplish tasks. After the establishment of trade routes through the planet and the cultural evolution into a space faring government, the Asulian tech level rose dramatically as they learned how to operate and even construct their own ships, weaponry, and other miscellaneous technology. Currently, their technology level is slightly below the galactic norm.

Notable PCs: N/A (Will add my own plus any others if this gets approved by Empress)

Intent: I liked the idea of roll playing as a bug but I just didn't like the way the Geonosians ended up after the clone wars. So i decided to try and create my own version of an Insectoid species based off of wasps. If this profile is accepted I plan on going further in depth, possibly creating a saga of threads centered on them.

AN: If anyone finds a discrepancy/typo/grievance/OP characteristic/or broken rule please PM me and I'll change it.

I'd recommend mentioning the blood's effect on organic matter in strengths.

Morjunta would require a write-up if used, unless the planet was destroyed. My personal suggestion is to use one of the stub planets in the Expanded Universe rather than a new planet, as it would save you some time.

I updated the blood with necessary info thanks for pointing that out. As for the stub planets, how would I go about doing that?

I think that should be okay. I personally am okay with allowing a single thread in which Morjunta's star going supernova as it could be an interesting thread to write in.

I like it, looks like you put a decent amount of research into it. Thank you for not creating another tatooine I think Fef is a nice fit for your race. I might use this once it comes up, was thinking about just creating a Geonosian but idk where they stand in the current timeline.
