NAME: Aslyn Denethorn
FACTION: Jedi Order
RANK: Jedi Initiate
SPECIES: Human (Corellian)
AGE: 12
GENDER: Male
HEIGHT: 5ft 4inches
WEIGHT: 112lbs
EYES: Deep Grey
HAIR: Brown (Straight, cut short)
SKIN: Caucasian, Pale
FORCE SENSITIVE: Yes

COMPOSITION AND APPEARANCE

Replete with the energy of youth, Aslyn tends to present as wide-eyed and enthusiastic, though several years training as an Initiate among the Jedi has dampened this a little, channelling his energies a little more towards being calm and relaxed rather than overly hyperactive. He can be more than a little talkative, and can become very animated during conversation, gesturing a lot with his hands and modulating his voice so that he never speaks in a monotone.

About average height at present, the young man nonetheless appears slender and even occasionally a little underfed: even though he has a voracious appetite, he rarely seems to put on any weight except when his height changes, as it seems to do often in little spurts, given his age. His facial features are a little sharp, his eyes being narrow and focused and his nose fairly aquiline, giving him a very serious appearance even when he smiles. He prefers to wear his hair short but for a traditional Padawan braid on the right side of his head, a centimetre or so above and behind his right ear, draping down to just above his shoulder.

His clothing tends to be in keeping with typical Jedi tradition: normal homespun robes consisting of a light undershirt with a heavier tunic over the top, with tabards rolling over the shoulders and extend down both the back and the front, gathered at the waist by a leather belt. He usually wears trousers of a contrasting colour, tucked into knee-length boots. Although he quite often wears the usual tan-and-brown worn by most Jedi, he has on occasion chosen to wear the emerald green and black robes that signify his Corellian heritage, though this is mostly when he is in a contrary mood.

PERSONALITY

When describing himself, Aslyn would say that he is probably a little hard to handle at the best of times, and does not necessarily feel that this is a failing, even though he is aware that it can be a little awkward. He lacks the diplomatic tact of many older Jedi, tending to be blunt and forthright, saying what he thinks without much consideration for the consequences, believing that is better to say what you're thinking so that all is honest and out in the open.

He is possessed of a very dry, bitingly sarcastic sense of humour, and doesn't feel the need to restrain himself in using it, so most Jedi around the Temple have learned to avoid saying anything not carefully considered when around him, lest he feel the need to correct them or make comment. That noted, he tends mostly to be sarcastic when annoyed or on the defensive, and the rest of the time tends to remain fairly calm and centred in his emotional outlook (with occasional exception!).

Despite his natural enthusiasm for everyone, Aslyn has proven to be a very studious individual. He can often be found with his nose in a book, rather than spending time in the training suites or working with lightsaber remotes, as many of his classmates generally do. This can, however, be misinterpreted as giving him a somewhat aloof demeanour, so he can often been a little distant from others - both students and instructors, even when is fully attentative to what he is being told.

He loves attending classes and learning new things, and demonstrates more enthusiasm towards this than just about anything else - if there's an opportunity to discover something he doesn't know, he'll pursue it with considerable energy, but also respond fairly negatively to any obstacles placed in his path, becoming quite irritable (a failing noted by his instructors thus far!).

His defining quality, as such, is his tendency to question everything about the world around him - even down to those things otherwise accepted as the norm for society. As far as he's concerned, things which are established remain so only if they're rigorously questioned, and those things which aren't only become so by being ripped apart and examined.

ABILITIES

Aslyn is currently at a very rudimentary stage of his Jedi training: very much in the process of learning the basics, both about the Force, the role of the Jedi and his place within the Order. He has a fair understanding of the basics and has begun training with a lightsaber as well as with the Force, but isn't particularly talented with either of them at this stage. He is, however, excellent at reading and writing, and has managed to start learning a second language (Huttese) out of pure interest. His ability to gather pertinent information on his areas of study have led him to become fairly competant at the use of data-retrieval and storage devices, and he has a practised hand at using the Temple Archive's equipment.

BIOGRAPHY

Hmm...where to start? Okay, so this is supposed to be all about me - Master Kalen said it's part of our classes on the whole Self-Realisation thing. What was it he said? Right: "To understand who you are and where you're going, you have to be able to acknowledge where you came from". I told him that you could just look at a starmap, but he glared at me and then told me I had to go and write a biography. So, that's what I'm doing. Great choice of assignment there. Me and my big mouth...

Anyway, I'm Corellian, so, yeah, I was born on Corellia. That's one heck of an intellectual leap right there. Impressed yet? No? Me neither. My parents live in Tyrena City, which is a nice little place on the river. We lived on the east side - well, I suppose they still do, but I'm not sure about that. Maybe they moved. It's been a while since I've even been on Corellia, and I don't remember that much about it. Most of it was home, school, school and more time at home. Sounds about right, doesn't it? Now I live at the place I go to school, so maybe I'm getting more efficient in my old age.

Dad wasn't around much - he tended to travel around a lot for work, because he worked for CEC, that company that makes most of the decent ships you see flying around, unless they're built by Sienar. He'd stay for maybe a day or two every week and then be off again. I don't think Mom liked it much, but she said that's what you had to do to pay for food and a place to live, but then again, at least we all got plenty of time to ourselves. Oh, she just stayed at home, by the way - there were four of us at home even when Dad wasn't around, so not like the place was empty.

I should probably mention the other two: one brother, one sister. Elysana's an annoying little brat, but she's younger than me, and didn't do a whole lot other than sleep, cry, sleep some more, eat, sleep and, just for some variety, take a nap every so often. I dunno, maybe she was summoning up some energy for her main sleep. Good thing, too, because when she was awake, she was noisy enough that you just wanted to smother her with a pillow. As for Jared, well, he's a lot older, so it's not like we argued all the time (just every once in a while), but he wasn't exactly on my wavelength. Little slow sometimes.

School was pretty fun, though - there was always lots to learn, although the teachers weren't exactly the best. Felt like they were trying to slow things down sometimes. "Let other people figure out the answer first" (even though I got there first myself), "I haven't said you can start yet", "Don't forget to put your hand up before you answer". Stuff like that. Really bossy, but they knew a lot, so I guess I can't complain too much about it.

Anyway, that's where the Jedi found me. I was eight when I saw my first one - you know the type (well, if you're reading this, you're one of them, so duh...). Tall, brown robes, lightsaber on the belt and that weird sense of having eyes in the back their head, since she seemed like she knew exactly what you were doing even when she wasn't looking at you. I realise that's all part of using the Force, but I didn't know that when we first met. Just felt a little spooked. We talked a little and she said her job was to scout local schools to see if she could find 'Sensitives', and then she did a few little tests with everyone in the class. Weird stuff, too.

Let's see...first off was we had to close our eyes and then try and work out where she was standing in the room just by pointing in her direction. That one was pretty easy, though I just guessed anyway. Then she turned several cups over and put a Cred-Coin under one of them and moved them around, then told me to tell her which one it was under. I've seen that trick before, but it was under the middle one - you can always tell just by watching her hands, but I didn't tell her that. Got to keep the credit, though, so I guess I won that bet. Oh, and she also took a little blood, and she said that was just so she could have a look at it. Why they'd want to do that, I don't know - the Jedi here don't find blood that interesting, but she did. Maybe she was just an odd one, and that's why they sent her to Corellia. She'd fit right in.

After that, I didn't see her again for a few weeks, but she turned up at my house wanting to talk to my parents - my Dad was home at that point, oddly enough. Maybe she'd timed it so she could talk to him, too. Anyway, turns out she said I could train as a Jedi, if I wanted to, and my parents were pretty enthusiastic - guess they thought they might have to pay less for food if the Jedi were paying my share. Who knows? I ended up being sent with the Jedi, which was fun, because you heard a lot about them and it would have been neat to learn to do some of the things they do.

So, that was three years ago now. I'm still in what they call basic training, and isn't that a hoot... A lot of it at first was just playing games and taking tests to see what we could do - guess they wanted to see if I could do some of the things they can. And after that they started teaching me about controlling emotions and learning to relax and stay calm so I can always be in touch with the Force. Oh, and lightsaber practice, too, but those things sting if you don't get out of the way. And those pesky Remotes need dismantling, for sure.

I'm still on Tython, which is pretty obvious, because so is this recording... I'd best wrap it up, though - got a History lesson in ten minutes, and I don't wanna be late for that. The Masters tend to get grouchy if you're late, even though they keep saying that a Jedi shouldn't lose their temper. Practice what you preach, people...

I love this little guy. Good to see he has that trade mark sense of humor of yours. Should be a read read seeing him question everything we take for granted in this RP.

Also always good to see more Corellians to the party!
