APS-22C ACTIVE PROTECTION SYSTEM

AFFILIATION
Open Market

MANUFACTURER
Kuat Drive Yards

TYPE
Vehicle protection system
POWER SUPPLY
Internal vehicle power

SENSORS
  • 6x proximity sensors

SIZE
Approx. 1 square meter (launcher size)

COMPOSITION
Durasteel, computer parts, explosive projectiles

DESCRIPTION
The APS-22C is a long-overdue active protection system for armored vehicles. When a non-energy projectile, such as a rocket or cycler round, is launched at the APS-equipped vehicle, a computer rapidly calculates the danger and trajectory of the object. If it poses a significant danger, then the APS launches a small, explosive rocket that detonates near the incoming warhead, exploding it prematurely and/or deforming it enough that the round loses its penetrating power and merely bounces off of the APS-equipped vehicle. The APS-22C will not activate if the incoming projectile poses little to no danger (ie. it is too small/low velocity to do any real damage, it is going to riccochet off, etc.) to avoid wasting rounds. The APS-22C is equipped with ten small defense rockets.

LEGALITY
Is this a device that merits being restricted or illegal in some places? If so, describe where, how, and why. If this doesn't seem applicable, you can omit this section.

INTENT
To create an active protection system for armored vehicles.

RESTRICTIONS
The APS-22C cannot be used to defend against energy weapons or weapons launched from starfighters/starbombers. In addition, this tech is not currently sold on the open market and is only equipped on certain Kuat Drive Yards vehicles.

As cool as Active Protection Systems and ERA are IRL, they really don't fit the tone and aesthetic of Star Wars. Sorry.
