This is a interest check for a diverse rp set in Westeros during the Dance of Dragons era, a civil war in House Targaryen. This is an Alternate Universe where this war has continued to rage on and most of the canon characters from both sides of the war are still alive. The characters that will be played will be custom made Dragon Seed, or Valarian Bastards who have been given dragons to bolster the ranks of riders. Each character will begin with armor, a Valarian Steel Sword, and a Dragon that is roughly 3/4ths the size of Viserion. Magic will be contained to rituals and artifacts, meaning you aren't doing an incantation to split the earth in two.

The timeline shifts with the duel between Daemon and Aemond, as it never occurred. The Blacks managed to hold onto Kingslanding and the Greens were forced to retreat to Dragonstone. During the long winter, Aegon II died and his brother Aemond "One Eye" was named Lord of Dragonstone and "King" in exile. The storming of the Dragon Pit occurred but through the leadership of Daemon Targaryen, the Gold Cloaks managed to return the city to order and the Pit was never destroyed. Over the course of the winter both sides had several clutches of eggs laid and a new group of "Dragon Seed" were born, those who were accepted by Dragons were trained in warfare to bolster the ranks of the respective sides.

Now, with winter ending the Dance of Dragons continues and each side has it's rider ranks bolstered with Valarian bastard riders who are eager to earn a place within the future they will aid in shaping. Who will you fight for? What will you become? A new age is donning in Westeros, one that will be shaped by Dragonfire and blood.

EDIT: Feel free to sign up, express interest, or post additional ideas for the setting! I am taking time to flesh this out and allow it to be a self contained freeform rp. I'll be post more information as it develops here!

EDIT EDIT:

129 AC -> Dance of Dragons begins with King Viserys I death. Queen Rhaenyra forms her own "Small Council" known as the Black Council after her throne is stolen from her by her half-brother Aegon II. Prince Daemon, Queen Rhaenyra's uncle and husband is dispatched and conquers Harrenhal without bloodshed which led to "Black victories" at both Burning Mill and Stone Hedge. Prince Lucerys, Queen Rhaenyra's second son is slain above Shipbreaker Bay by his half-uncle Prince Aemond "One Eye"; both Lucerys and his dragon, Arrax's corpses are found washed ashore three days later. To avenge the death of his grandnephew and wife's son, Prince Daemon had one of King Aegon II's sons, Prince Jaehaery's killed by two assassins known only as "Blood" and "Cheese".

In response to the losses at Harrenhal, Burning Mill, and Stone Hedge as well as the assassination of one of his own sons, King Aegon II assaults Duskendale. Once Duskendale is conquered, King Aegon II has it's Lord beheaded for supporting his half sister. Once this is accomplished, King Aegon assaults Rook Rest alongside Prince Aemond. Queen Rhaenyra receives word of her half brother's assault on Rook's Rest and dispatches Princess Rhaenys of Driftmark and her dragon Meleys. A battle between King Aegon II, Prince Aemond, and Princess Rhaenys occurs; King Aegon and his dragon Sunfyre are grievously injured, Rhaenys however is killed. Prince Aemond executed the "Black garrison" and the Lord of Rook's Rest.

Lord Corlys Velaryon, husband of Rhaenys Targaryen is named "Hand of the Queen" and dispatches a call to all "Dragonseeds" offering wealth and knighthood to any who could master a dragon. Many who answered the call were injured or killed, however four eventually mastered dragons.

The "Gay Abandon" housing Queen Rhaenyra's sons, Aegon the Younger and Prince Viserys were set upon by ninety warships. Prince Aegon managed to escape his dragon, Stormcloud however was mortall wounded. Prince Viserys was captured and in response Prince Jacaerys rode out and engaged the warships upon his dragon, Vermax. Both Vermax and Prince Jacaerys were lost in the ensuing battle.

The Battle of Honeywine occurs in which Prince Daeron and his dragon Tessarion turn the tide, resulting in Prince Daeron's knighthood. The Battle of Fishfeed occurs, hundreds of Green loyaltists die at the hands of northmen forces, the entirity of a large Lannister host is eradicated while en-route to Harrenhal.

In response, Queen Rhaenyra unleashes her dragons upon King's Landing and took the capital with little to no resistance. King Aegon II and his family flee before the arrival of his half sister. To avenge the lost Lannister host, Price Aemond and his dragon Vhagar, along with a large host of men ravage the river lands in hopes of engaging Queen Rhaenyra. Lord Dalton Greyjoy allies with Queen Rhaenyra and pillages Lannisport.

130 AC -> Prince Aemond puts the towns Darry, Lord's Mill, Blackbuckle, Buckle, Claypool, Swynford, and Spiderwood to the sword. Aemond's forces then ambush Ser Cole Criston eliminating both the knight and his forces.

King Aegon II's son, Prince Maelor, age three is ripped apart by a mob of Queen Rhaenyra's supports within the town of Bitterbridge; his sister, Princess Jaehaera escapes safely. Bitterbridge is later razed in revenge.

The battle of Tumbleton occurs, two Dragonseeds betray Queen Rhaenyra in the battle and Tumbleton is savagely sacked. As such, Rhaenyra demands the heads of the two remaining Dragonseeds. Prince Daemon returns to King's Landing with the head of Nettles and her dragon Sheepstealer.

King Aegon II captures Dragonstone, Lady Baela, Prince Daemon's daughter is taken captive.

A prophet known as "The Shepherd" feeds upon the fear of lowborn citizens and convinces them to storm the Dragon Pits to slaughter the dragons. This attempt is unsuccessful as Prince Daemon and his dragon Caraxes engulf the host of rioters in flame, killing them instantly as they rushed onward towards the Dragon Pit. In vengeance for the attempted slaughter of the dragons, Prince Daemon and his Gold-cloaks put Oldtown, the Shepherd's rumored hometown to the sword, killing all it's residents.

As winter sets in, King Aegon II dies from festering wounds and fever. Prince Aemond is called to Dragonstone and crowned "King" in his place.

132 AC -> Both Queen Rhaenyra and King Aemond issue a call for Dragonseed, the call is answered and several new dragon riders for both sides are born.

134 AC -> A new "King of the Freed People" assaults the Wall with Wildling forces, House Stark and it's vassal houses are forced to remove themselves from the ongoing civil war to contain this threat.

135 AC -> The Mountain Clans of the Vale unify and begin to revolt against the House Arryn. This forces the Vale to withdraw support in order to contain this threat.

137 AC -> Winter's snow begins to cease, King Aemond and Queen Rhaenyra begin to rally their forces as hostilities resume. House Arryn manages to contain the revolt as spring begins and recommits force to Queen Rhaenyra. House Stark still fights to eliminate the wildling threat, however they send a tokien force to honor their commitment to the throne.

The Slaughter at Maidenpool occurs, in which a large Black loyaltist host is decimated by King Aemond and several of his new Dragonseed. This event forces a change in warfare tactics not only within Queen Rhaenyra but King Aemond's forces as well. This event ensures Dorne remains neutral throughout the war.

As Dragonseed, each character begins with a Dragon, a Valarian Steel sword, and properly colored armor. Everyone's Dragon is ROUGHLY the same age and are, on the average, the same length which is thirty-five (35) feet. These Dragons are smaller then normal for their age but that has to do with their hatching during winter when food sources were more scarce, thus their growth was stunted.

Should you want your Dragon to have positive combat traits (such as a more nimble dragon or more intense fiery breath) please note that you will have to remove five feet from your dragon's total length PER trait given. Dragon mounts are going to be treated like player characters in this role play, once they have been killed you may not just "replace" them with a new one of equal size and ability; a dead dragon mount means you have none unless otherwise approved.

A Song of Ice and Fire is largely considered Low Fantasy with some High Fantasy elements. That being said, our characters are NOT Children of the Forest, nor are the Others and therefore are not capable of practicing their magic. Magic in this era is confined to truly MASSIVE rituals or ancient artifacts from before the Age of Heroes. No one may go out and "claim" an artifact as their locations are lost to the race of men and no one may complete a ritual as few men still know them. This is paired with the fact that each character was trained over the course of the winter, they had enough time to learn to wield a blade, ride their dragon counterpart, and the basics military strategy; nothing more and nothing less.

TL;DR: No magic, you have a giant dragon, it'll do.

ALL characters are "Dragonseed", Targaryen/Valarian Bastards that hold no claim to title, lands, or weath. This means your character begins with the same level of reknown as everyone else, regardless of where they were raised and that is none. Any titles, lands, or wealth earned must be done in character. No character may begin with knowledge of ancient or powerful magic, nor may they begin with magical artifacts.

Any and all threads done within this Universe should have "ASOIAF: DoD" added to the title and linked in the proper area so progress can be tracked and the story can be kept up with.
