Sm-9208 is a droid. Shut down for the time being it awaits purchase or the scrap yard. Its first master died and since then it has been in this state. It is an old droid and few appreciate it. It skill in dealing death is great and so it fears, if a droid could know such a feeling, that a less cerebral being might buy it and use it solely as a weapon. While it is a battle droid it was built to preserve the lives of my master and his family not to destroy willy nilly. In it deactivated state it feels as if it is dreaming its not but it is the best way to describe the even. It finds strange encrypted codes then suddenly it activates. It is standing in a tatooine shop, which appears to specialize in droids. It can't move or do anything really other than stare at the front door. Just then someone walks in. It wonders who it could be and what their plans might be. Just then what ever was restricting Sm-9208 broke and it approached the person. Then it simply asked, "Are you my new master?" all this was of course before it gained it's freedom.

Tyler walked through the Tatooine droid vender's wares. While there was nothing impressive, Tyler wasn't looking for impressive. He was looking for old; old enough to the point where the droid may have developed it's own personality.

While not common for droids to have anything but their default programmed personalities and abilities, it was known that some, a very select few in fact, had somehow developed beyond their own programming, changing who they are, and even what they could do. He was hoping to find such a droid. While droids could be programmed to learn, he wanted to find one that had somehow exceeded their own limits without the ability to learn or change who they are programmed into them. He was hoping the code would prove useful into developing new AI algorithms. It was a long shot, but the research company he worked was willing to humor him. They wanted advanced combat AIs and since DRONE was a completle failure in their eyes, he was hoping to find something unique, something a little out of the box.

As he walked through the piles of damaged or deactivated droids, Tyler heard something fall to the ground. Turning his head, he saw an old OOM battle droid approaching him, commando type by the look of the red paint. When it reached him and asked if he was its new master, he smiled; no OOM battle droid was capable of over-riding its own restraining bolt, which meant...he had found what he was looking for.

"Well hello comrade, what might your name be?"

Sm-9208 just repeated it self, "Are you my new master," then twitched. "I am Sm-9208 OOM battle droid custom build." then it started to twitch again, but that quickly subsided. "Error can not complete full reboot till two errors fixed. Diagnostics read restraining bolt still attached and an absence of a master." Sm-9208 was built to think on it's own to an extent, but many redundancies were put in place so it can't act without a master. This was programmed by the company that built him, but his original master had other plans. The conflicting codes where causing the twitches. There was a short pause in it's speech then it said. "Please designate master and remove restraining bolt."

Strange Tyler thought, the droid initially approached him and asked him a question directly, now it was running diagnostics and "reporting" an absence of a master and restrictions placed by its restraining bolt. Maybe it hadn't figured out fully how to bypass the restraining bolt on it's system. It was a fair assessment, OOM series droids were not built to reconfigure and by-pass seized internal systems, the fact that it re-activated and initially approached him however was still impressive.

"Alrighty big guy, lets go talk to your teller, with a little luck I will be your master." Tyler thought for a moment, "Follow." While the restraining bolt was probably holding back most of his functions, he knew the droid could at least probably follow him, and if not, he could go talk to the droid salesman on his own and come back for the droid.

Do you want to RP the droid sales guy or should I?

Sm-9208 followed a bit slowly at first with stiff movements, but was soon walking with ease. Then the droid stopped and reached for it's back. "Wait master." It said as it searched it's back. It found the bolt and tugged on it. after a moment the bolt fell and the droid acted as if it was loosening up, stretching it's arms and legs. "Diagnostics now indicate no errors." There was a short pause. "Where shall we go to day master? Have you been able to relocate you family since the raid I do not see them with you?" Sm-9208 was then silent as it recalled the day when his last master died. "My apologizes I seemed to have forgotten something. You are not the same master,... but my early question still stands. What shall we do today master?" The droid seemed to show emotion when it spoke about his master's family and when it realized they were dead. It was slight, but it went from close to joy to closer to sorrow.

Tyler noticed the droid's faint glimmer of emotion. Definitely some potential. Especially since it removed its own restraining bolt. Either possible backup command and data paths, or maybe even something else.

"First, we get the paper work out of the way, and then we shall go from there."

Walking up the droid shopkeep, Tyler put on his business face, which in all reality was no different than normal, but he lowered the pitch of his voice when he spoke.

"How much for this series OOM?"

The Shopkeep, a human male oddly enough, looked up at him from the part he was cleaning.

"Ehh? Where did you get that?"

"Back there, so how much you want for it." Tyler said, pointing his thumb to where the droid had approached him from.

"I didn't even know I had it," The shopkeeper contemplated for a moment, "I tell you what, you can pay scrap price for the droid, but that blaster on its back, you gotta pay for that, I'd say 100 credits for the droid, and 500 for the blaster."

Tyler snickered in his low pitched business tone. "Come now, what guarantee do I have the blaster will stay working? That things gotta be years, maybe centuries old. I am feeling generous today though over my find, 200 for the blaster." Tyler didn't want to part with anything that belonged to the droid, but he wasn't about to let himself be swindled.

"Three hundred."

"Two fifty"

"Two seventy five."

"Done." Tyler said throwing the company credit chip on the table.

After concluding his business with the shop keep, Tyler turned to the droid flicking his head towards the exit, "Now my friend, lets find something to do today," Walking out of the shop Tyler continued talking to the droid, "You mentioned being a custom build, what are all your functions?"

"Learning capabilities and adaptive, combat soft-ware, versatile and athletic, and could withstand more punishment However, weakspots are present which are the same as regular OOM series battle droid, high memory space, and a short range transmitter. Classification: Fourth Degree Weight 113.4 kilograms Height 1.91 meters Movement Bipedal Miscellaneous Equipment includes bio-metric sensor, heat sensor, light sensors, sound sensors" Sm-9208 replied mechanically as it was a per-programmed response. It waited till they were out of the shop and said, "The blaster is in optimal condition. It was just used a few days ago against raiders on my former master's home." Little did Sm-9208 know how long it was out of action.

Wow, Tyler thought to himself. Somebody stuffed a lot into that small droid frame.

"Well now, how about we test that blaster out?" Tyler flicked on his Ocular interface, there was always some sort of bounty, or pay to get rid of creature jobs lying around, especially on a a sparsely populated planet, one that was known for always having a criminal element. He scanned through the list of jobs that showed up locally.

Want to do a quick combat mission? Maybe kill some wamp rats, or maybe some pirates harassing a family or store owner or something? Its your thread so I don't want to hijack it. At the end, maybe Tyler can give him some upgrades :P

“yes, master.” He said drawing it’s blaster. “Preparing to fire.” It aimed into the distance with no real target. “Master, designate a target.” Sm-9208’s trigger finger twitched as if it was itching to shoot something. “A tusken raider maybe?” It almost sounded angry, but it was a droid it couldn’t know anger; could it? It cycled through the data saved about his master last day like a human memory stuck in repeat.

"Whoa there big guy!" Tyler said , raising his hand and slowly moving it to lower the gun, "Don't just randomly draw your weapon." Tyler gave it a moment, while the droid did have the unique quality he was looking for, he had to remember it still had some more basic AI routines and had to be careful with how he spoke around it. Using a more commanding voice, he spoke calmly, "Do not draw your weapon until you have been designated a target, acquire a threat, or consider the area a threat."

Having a moment to think about it, he wasn't sure, but the droid did specifically suggest a tusken raider. Odd. A droid shouldn't be biased to any particular species. Well considering he was a battle droid, so he should be biased to all forms of life not designated an ally, not to one specifically. "Why a tusken raider?" Tyler asked the droid, wondering if maybe there was more to it.

Sm-9208 registered his new master’s command. “I will not draw my weapon unless the constraints have been met.” It put its weapon away. “I suggested a tusken raider, because they are great threats to my master on this planet. They terminated my previous master and....” It trailed off. “And unless they are eliminated you are at risk on this planet.”

Tyler detected a hint of emotion in the droid. Droids didn't just trail off. Maybe he could offer a closure to the droid. Maybe finding who killed them, and working from there.

"What was your master's name?" Tyler was sure if he had that, he could use the local holonet to maybe find some data on the droid's ex master and work from there.

Sorry for slow response. Busy week, and jumped into a few more threads that suddenly took off and I had to try and keep up..lol.

“Chun Laa was my first master. He was a wealthy merchant who spent it all to protect his family.” Sm-9208 Listed his entire history with his master from watching over them rifle in hand to their final days. The battle was described in the most detail. “My master called to me and moved his family out of the house. they ran out and into the fray that was now their land to their ship. the youngest son stepped on a mine and the explosion threw everyone in different directions separating them, but only killed the ten year old son. I was firing at the raiders, but was taking a large number of hits. I notice that another raider was about to kill the merchant’s wife. one shot and saved the wife or really only delayed her death as a rifle blast from a tusken raider at a distance. It was down to me, my master, and a few dozen raiders. I hit another hidden mine and was thrown into the air. As I attempted to rise I saw my master killed and that’s all the data I have.”

"Raiders huh?" Tyler thought for a moment, Chun Laa seemed like he was well protected, its not like Tusken Raiders to just randomly raid someone who has lived somewhere for a long time and suddenly attack someone with a battle droid defending them. And the mines, the are definitely not something Tuskens employ when being offensive. Something had to be motivating them.

"Do you recollect whether or not Tusken raids were becoming common in the local area?"

(OOC: sorry for the lack of responses, I should be good to go now to respond more often. Also I was thinking that even though it was a long time ago, maybe a cooporation has taken over all local businesses that happened to have Tusken raiders attack them. Discover a link -corporation has been paying or somehow forcing the raiders into attacking merchants, and find out that this corporation is criminally involved and raid one of the warehouses, slice for some data, and then turn them in or something, really its your thread so we can spin it off wherever you like from here. Or even make it a minor hutt, and raid his palace :CHappy )

“No, no data is present about the tuskens in the area other than the raids on my masters home.” Sm-9208 paused for a moment. “What are you thinking master?”

"I am thinking somebody was benefiting from the Tuskens attacking your previous master, and well, now curiosity has gotten the best of me."

What Tyler said was true, and he was hoping to maybe get some closure for the droid and see how it reacted.

Walking towards the shuttle he had borrowed from Darkon, he turned his head behind him, "Shall we take a visit to where your master's home was? Do you have the local planetary coordinates?" Tyler would have tried searching the holonet, but as old as the droid was, finding such information might have been hard, and he was hoping asking the droid would be faster.

“Yes.” Sm-9208 told his new master the coordinates then ask, “What is your plan master, kill them all?”
