Midnight
The ancient world of Jedha was home to one of the first civilizations to explore the nature of the Force and this is mainly due to the high concentration of the force-attuned crystal, Kyber. Thus the temple of NiJedha has been the spiritual capital of the Jedi for generations. It now stands as one of the last remaining homeworlds of the order and is used to train the next generations of the Jedi.

The planet of Jedha is comprised mainly of freezing deserts locked within an endless winter. The structures within the city have been built with an emphasis on heat insulation and do well to keep out the freezing cold. On one particular night however, an ominous chilling wind from the cold desert planet penetrated the walls of the temple and made its way through the large empty corridors into the quarters of the slumbering Jedi knights.

Vera jolted upright in her sheets, her breath forming clouds within the air. Goosebumps appeared briefly her skin as the icy wind slipped past her, an uneasy feeling swept through her however it dispersed as quickly as it arrived.

She remained silent in that position for a few minutes, pondering what in the galaxy that could have been after which she laid her head back down on her pillow. She lay there for what felt like an eternity before she came to the conclusion that she was not tired enough to sleep. Early meditation it is then.

She climbed out of her bed and stretched out her arms. Her muscles ached from the rigid bedding and she could hear as her bones softly clicked into place. The temple was a fascinating place with untold secrets and ancient heritage however when it came to comfort it fell short. Vera snuck her feet into a pair of soft bantha fur slippers and slipped out the door.

Her slippers slid over the corridor floor in a mesmerising rhythm. Tsssh tsssh tsssh tsssh tsssh. The sound mixed with the focus on keeping it in time kept her entertained as she traversed the massive building towards the training room. To keep things interesting she would even mix up the beat by adding a skip and a jump here and there, thank goodness everyone is asleep, she thought as she must have looked quite ridiculous.

It had been a fretful night for Justinian thus far. The boundless plains of his homeworld of Naboo filled his dreams. In them he raced through the tall grass, chasing some distant alien feeling, as if the unknown itself lay just beyond the edges of the grassy field. Suddenly, just as he reached whatever oddity he had been so ardently running towards, Justinian is wracked with anxiety and surprise, pulling him from his sleep.

This positively annoying process repeated itself three times before Justinian, exacerbated and sweat soaked pulled himself from his cot, deciding that he may as well enjoy the night air if sleep is going to continue to elude him. His feet felt cold on the ceramic floor of the temple as he hastily began to get dressed. Shaking off the specter of the restless night a numb fingered Justinian pulled on the bottom tunic of his standard dress, eschewing the elaborate, and time consuming bands, and sash of the upper tunic. Bleary eyed he pulled his dusty boots on, his toes gripping at the warmth of the soft leather sole. Finally Justinian threw on his large brown cloak atop this makeshift ensemble. Given that he had just hastily gotten dressed, in the dark to boot, the young Jedi was a sorry sight to see stumbling out of his room.

A bleary eyed Justinian wandered through the main hall of the Jedi temple, at first meeting scarce more than the odd temple guard. Though, as he continued to descend down the halls he began to hear a sort of rhythmic thumping, one that was punctuated occasionally by a louder thud, as if someone had been jumping up and down. At first the Jedi chalked it up to a hallucination, something dreamt up by a sleepless, or still half asleep mind, but he tightened his focus, and still he heard it. In fact it had only gotten louder as he drew nearer to the training room. Fearing the worst Justinian, a veteran of the war, drew his emerald saber and burst forward in a sprint towards the source of the sound.

Alais had always heard that the temple was haunted. Sure, you had lessons about how the Force was a phenomenon that worked in mysterious ways. However, there was nothing to explain the occasional bump in the night and paranormal activity several young Knights here and there constantly spoke about. At the canteen, she had heard whispers of a particular training room that allegedly had some eerie sightings. People spoke about seeing specters and orbs and even hearing mysterious noises.

Of course, being an amateur detective, Alais decided to take it upon herself to go investigate these phenomenon on her own. Anyone she asked to come with found the venture stupid, and she had to gather up her guts and go alone as a result. She panicked and second-guessed herself the entire way, but she stuck to her guns in the end to finally solve this mystery once and for all.

Alais had her Jedi robes on, along with a flashlight. Like a responsible Jedi, she of course forgot her lightsaber. She purposely avoided wearing shoes to stay silent because, you know, you want to be able to sneak up on a ghost. Alais arrived close to the training room sometime after everyone had gone to bed and she quietly waited outside of it, not brave enough to wait inside.

Only an hour had passed before she was fast asleep on the floor, using her robes as a blanket. Within moments, she had the misfortune of being a lump on the ground when an overly eager and sleepy Jedi (@ContraDantes ) decided to run directly towards the training room with saber drawn. In his hurried advance, he had stepped directly atop her, causing her to panic and no doubt send him crashing to the floor.

“A GHOST! A GHOST!! STOP HAUNTING THESE HALLS I SAY!” She was fully convinced she was being attacked by a spirit from the other plane, and she brought up her flashlight to bop this demon from the netherworlds atop the head, only to discover afterwards that it was simply a fellow Jedi, “Uh…um….good evening….” She desperately wondered whether Jedi had ways to become completely invisible so she could run from this disastrous shame.

Ekaj walked through the halls. Most of the temple was a sleep, only those keeping there silent vigil. Though for Ekaj it was for the chance to be alone in his thoughts. Meditation was some thing he ways enjoyed doing and when he first heard low thumps from the Training room across the hall he was easily able to block it out. "just some padawan trying to train to impress there master the next day" the thought entered and left his Mind, not even dwelling on his own days has a padawan. But what he could not ignore was the cries that came next.

Cries of a ghost. It was a old rumor and probably had some truth that the temple was haunted. The force was after all strong and focused on the planet more so near the temple. Even so he had never seen one before. But now out side there could be a ghost.

Jumping up to his feet Ekaj ran for the door of the meditation chamber in to the hallway. Looking left and right he could see to people laying o the ground but no ghost. "ghost, where?" calling out to the two has he began to look left and right down the hallway then up on the ceiling. Still no ghost, maybe it had vanished.

Klyyd tossed and turned in his sleep, caught adrift in yet another nightmare. It was the mirror again, a twisted dark mirror. His reflection was dark and distorted. Suddenly, this dark reflection reached out and tried to pull him into the mirror. They struggled as they always did, and usually it was a stalemate but this time the Mirror Klyyd was winning. Klyyd let loose a yell of pure fear and anger as he was pulled though the mirror. Klyyd woke up still screaming and 3 feet above his bed. He fell, crashing through his bed, landing on the floor with a loud thud. Kye looked around, hoping no one heard, and caught a glimpse of orange in the reflection of of his freshly cleaned lightsaber. He looked again, but it was gone. Klyyd slowly got up and went to look to see if anyone else was up, given how cold the floor was. He guessed the main heater had blown, and wondered if he should travel down to maintenance level and inform them.

Vera snapped out of her rhythmic stroll when she heard signs of commotion. A sudden scream accompanied by a loud crash reverberated from around the corner of the corridor. Vera's heartbeat quickened, did I hear ghost? Preposterous.. Although it sounded ridiculous she proceeded with caution. You never know with these temples.

She peered her head around the corner of the corridor just enough so she could witness what had just happened. Fascinatingly enough there were two people sprawled on the floor, one with a lightsaber the other, a flashlight. Well this certainly is scandalous. At that moment another person from inside the meditation room burst out and frantically searched about. Vera smiled. She stepped out from around the corner, her slippers sliding gracefully over the floor.

"That must have been one strong ghost."

She let off a short giggle,

"I think you got him though."

The sleepy Justinian would reach the training room with great haste, but when he was mere feet away from the room itself, and what he assumed to be the source of that strange sound something odd happened. Suddenly it was as if the floor itself had become uneven, and as he ran down this lopsided hallway his foot had become caught on something. This baffling imbalance caused him to go careening towards the cold floor, lightsaber dropping from his hand, deadman’s switch turning into nothing but a harmless hunk of metal.

After saving himself from the freefall, Justinian would pull himself up straightening out the tunic he had hastily thrown on mere moments ago. Using the force he would quickly bring the saber to himself, only to see a fellow Jedi descending upon him, flashlight in hand, yelling about a ghost. Sheepishly he’d hold his hands up as if to show her he means no harm.

Justinian would clip the saber back to his belt as the woman addressed him, looking around at the other Jedi who seem to have come as a result of the commotion “Why hello there!” He responds to the girl who he thought was a fixture of the floor moments prior before turning his attention towards the other Jedi who spoke earlier. “lovely night for a stroll isn’t it?”

Vin had landed on Jedha earlier that day, and had been informed almost immediately that she could not meet the Council, and neither would they send any Jedi to help her. But she was anything if not stubborn, and so had decided to stick around and find a way to meet the Masters. She was not leaving Jedha till she got what she had come for. So she had snuck into a seemingly abandoned training room and settled in for the night.

A few hours later, unknown to Vin, a commotion was taking place outside her training room, and the Jedi gathered would be surprised when the door to the training room would open up its own. From the shadows would shine out two glowing embers, their ghosts probably. Two seemingly skeletal hands would emerge from the shadows within and, before the Jedi had any time to react, would grab Alais and Vera by the feet and hoist them into the air. Screams filled the halls once again.

This would be when the lights inside the training chamber turned on and a bleary eyed Vin stumbled out of the room to see KR3CH towering over a group of Jedi, two of them dangling upside down in his grip.

Kreech!! What are you doing, let her go! The droid looked at her with a surprised look on his face, again she had no idea how he did that, and let one of the Jedi drop. Poor Vera would crash headfirst to the floor and Vin rushed forward to help her. Stop! Her command came just in time to stop KR3CH from dropping Alais on her head as well. You're going to break her head as well!

It would do them a world of good mistress. This one was standing guard outside our door trying to catch a ghost. Crazy Jedi. A lobotomy would be better, but a knock to the head might set them straight.

Vin almost didn't catch what KR3CH had said, she had grown so used to filtering out his crazy rambling, but when she did process his words a jolt of excitement ran through her. Letting go of Vera, sending the poor Jedi stumbling to the floor once more, she stood up and came to a stop face to face with the still vertically inverted Alais. There was a wide grin and a childlike look of pure joyous wonder on her face. Is it true? Were you really trying to catch a ghost? A ghost buster, why didn't I think of that before?! You're just what I need. Please, you must come with me. The Council has already turned down my request. Please. Help me, you're my only hope!

As Klyyd made his way down the hall, he heard a commotion around the corner. As he a rounded the corner, he was met with an amazing sight. Two Jedi dangling from a Droid's hands. He was about to laugh, but immediately stopped in his tracks when his eyes fell upon the Mirialan girl. He was struck to the core by her beauty, from her green complexion to her perfectly symmetrical facial tattoos. He smiled for the first time in a long while. When he realized he had been staring at her for far too long, he turned away and drew his hood in hopes of hiding his blushing face. What was this? He'd never acted this way before. He then looked at the young Jedi who had been arguing with the droid to let them down, who was now talking about ghosts and busting and something about hope.

Fennex's fur rippled in annoyance at the first disturbance in the corridor. Nerf-herding little exhaust for brains younglings. He had half a mind to go out there and find out who was making all that racket just so he could make sure their masters made the next days training miserably long- it would be a good lesson for them. The other half of his mind really just wanted to go back to sleep. He spun a quick circle on his bunk, burrowed his paws into his dingy grey robes, and tucked his nose under his tail with a snort. Silly ghost stories, he thought as he began drifting back to sleep, riling up the... the silly younglings... with their silly... silly little... silly...

"Kreech!! What are you doing, let her go!"

Crash. Thud. Stomp.

"Stop! You're going to break her head as well!"

THATS IT. Fennex rose up from his bunk and hopped to the floor, landing lightly. His fur puffed and his ears slicked back as he rose to his full height, bundling his heavy winter robe around him. It was time to teach these silly runts a lesson about disturbing the sleep of others. No respect. No respect! Younglings today just weren't what they used to be. Back in the day young Jedi were considerate. They cared about his sleep. They went to bed at respectable hours and they stayed there. They didn't crash about the temple in the middle of the night like a bunch of uncultured inconsiderate Banthas. Maybe a lobotomy was what they deserved, but he'd settle for giving them a good knock upside the head. The Knight stomped towards the corridor, murmuring angrily to himself, his little feet slapping the ground, claws ticking against the ancient sandstone. He threw the door open with the force and burst out into the open to meet his foes.

"ALRIGHT, THATS ENOUGH!" The Amaran squeaked while he puffed out his chest, whiskers twitching intimidatingly, "I demand an explanation for this foolish nonsense! Who goes there and why aren't you in bed where you belong?!"

“AAAAARGHHH!” Alais had no time to apologize for rudely smacking someone on the head with a flashlight before she was unceremoniously hoisted up into the air. Having worn robes, she was busily trying to hold her clothing down to keep from revealing the embarrassing unicorn undies she had chosen to wear that night. The young girl was screaming and glaring at the droid that picked her up, “Let me go you piece of junk!” As the droid began to talk about lobotomies, “Yeah and I’ll introduce you to a nice, friendly GARBAGE COMPACTOR!” She tried to take a swing at him with one of her hands, but missed horribly.

While she was upside down, another young woman approached her and began to excitedly ask about coming with her, “In case you haven’t noticed.. I’m a little preoccupied right now!!” She grumpily glared at the girl that was seemingly oblivious to her plight of hanging upside down, “I’m going to tell a Master about-“

That was when she was cut off by an older Jedi Knight that bellowed at the top of his lungs. From her awkward angle, she could make out that it was Fennex, a stingy old Jedi that was strict on everyone he taught. That was when she was abruptly dropped, crashing to the floor painfully. Alais quickly jumped up to her feet, elbowing the droid in the process while looking ahead at the elder Jedi.

“G-G-Good evening,” She glanced nervously back at the others, “We were all here for extra training,” Alais cleared her throat and put on a very serious expression, “With the conflicts we’ve been seeing all around the galaxy it’s important to have..” What was that garbage all the teachers harped about? “..Constant vigilance! We should aspire to be in peak conditions and strive to be the very best at all times. And that means training even into the late hours of the evening. The enemy never rests, so why should we? And that’s why we’re all here..” She beamed proudly, impressed by her own crock of shit that she delivered to the terrifying little Amaran.

Justinian would look up at the robot before him that had just clutched the two Jedi before him, letting out a low, melodic laugh as he marvels at it’s metallic chassis. Unfortunately his mirth was cut off by the shrill complaints the Amaran had managed to squeak out.

The Knight would crane his neck towards Fennex, opening his mouth as if to say something before simply looking back to the Jedi who the robot carelessly threw onto the temple floor. Justinian, his eyes unable to focus on a single aspect of the multitude of ridiculous things going on around him, would instead simply embrace it, doubling over in laughter, wrinkles and laugh lines appearing on his highest cheekbones as he chuckles on.

Once having sufficiently laughed himself dry the young Jedi would pick himself up, once more straightening out his shoddy outfit as he looked to the other Jedi, attempting to keep as straight a face as possible. “So…” he pauses as if to search fitting words for the situation “everyone’s night been eventful so far?”

Ekaj watched the spectacle before him, unable to contain him self he burst out in laughter only stopping when the olde Jedi Fennex cam around the corn complaining at them like they where still padawans. There was no rule saying they could not be up. Still Ekaj had to respect him. Still he assumed it was direct at all the people making the noise and not him who had been busy with meditation at the time.

"Lovely night for a stroll isn't it?"

The voice came from one of the Jedi that had originally fallen over, his lightsaber catching her eye, what was he expecting to find within these corridors? She gave him a warm smile.

"Well, I-"

In an instant Vera was swept off her feet, dangled, dropped and dropped again. Her head pain was amplified as she tried to process the multitude of new faces. She scrambled back to her feet haphazardly and came face to face with the droid that had so rudely coghandled her. The olive skin of her cheeks turned a bright crimson.

"It's always violence with you robots isn't it, maybe it is you who needs a-"

She caught herself mid sentence, turned away, took a deep breath and composed herself. The colour drained from her cheeks as she surveyed the now awfully cluttered hallway. It seemed what was originally supposed to be a meditation session quickly turned into something of a party, one she was not enjoying.

"ALRIGHT, THATS ENOUGH!"

Vera froze in place, petrified of the authorative voice that had just sounded. The last thing she wanted was to have a bad reputation for disturbances. Ever so slowly she spun on her heels, coming face to face with the most adorable looking thing she had ever witnessed. The Amaran stood with its chest pushed out and whiskers taut in an attempt to look as imposing as possible and while Vera knew that she must act respectfully to her elder she couldn't help but let out a small, "awwww" from under her breath.

The other Jedi who had been flung about quickly spouted some nonsense as an excuse for the commotion that was caused. Vera chuckled, her response was amusing yet well formulated. Not only did she defend her own actions but the actions of strangers that she barely knew, including that bucket of bolts that had whipped her around.

"We are incredibly sorry to have disturbed your sleep."

It was then when a few members of this unsightly bunch burst out in laughter. Vera struggled to hold a straight face in an attempt to maintain the sincerity of her apology.

Vin turned around towards the source of the voice, only to find herself staring at empty space. It took her a moment to realize the voice was coming from a source much closer to the ground. Lowering her eyes she noticed the diminutive Jedi, and froze.

Her mind raced back to that first year with Fey, one of her first trips to the forest, and that feral fox. Her right hand instinctively went to her left wrist, rubbing at the nearly invisible scar that the fox had given her that day. And that wasn't the worst of it, Fey had somehow made her believe that the fox had been magic and she would turn into one on the next full moon. Terror and embarrassment, that was what foxes were to her now. This Jedi with his squeaky voice and authoritative tone terrified her to her core.

FOrgive us Master. She kicked at KR3CH and justured, and for once the droid understood and dropped the unicorn ghost buster to the ground. Ignoring the chuckles around her, convinced that they were aimed at her, she stood and waited for her doom.

"...And that means training even into the late hours of the evening. The enemy never rests, so why should we? And that’s why we’re all here..”

Fen considered the response slowly, menacingly eyeing the motley collection of fresh faced knights- younglings, truly- up and down as they squeaked out their apologies and/or excuses. Training. Pfft. Training my fluffy tail, He thought. Fennex twitched his nose in the air several times, sniffing about and making his whiskers bob up and down for dramatic effect. He looked around at the assembled knights.

"Hmm... do you smell that, younglings? Smells like... Smells a bit like... bantha poodoo." he snarled. He gave the girl points for creativity, but if the flashlight in her hand and her lack of shoes didn't give away her deception, the giggling and barely suppressed idiotic grins of her partners in crime surely did. Fennex was about to let them all off with a stern warning when the biggest fool in the group, Knight Justinian, decided he couldn't contain himself anymore and doubled over laughing. Incensed, Fen's fur stood on end as he bristled at the outburst. This insolent little... disturb my night and laugh about it will you? The little fox-like Jedi was about to give the much taller youngling a piece of his mind- a good old fashioned dressing down, like padawans used to get in the olds days, a real verbal thrashing, when the man finally crossed the line. How's my night? HOW'S MY NIGHT??? You wake up a senior knight crashing about the temple like a rathtar in a junk shop, and without a single shred of remorse for the blatant disrespect, ASK HOW HIS NIGHTS BEEN? Oh, how the Jedi have fallen, Fennex lamented internally as he fished his lightsaber out of his pocket. The little Jedi crossed the few feet in a flash, lashing out at the offenders kneecap with the butt of his weapon. Even without the blade, the heavy metal rod could certainly hurt if applied carefully.

"You would do good to learn some respect youngling! No decency! What do I look like to you, huh?! Old Master Wyck? I'm not some benevolent toad you can tread all over in the middle of the night, laughing like a buffoon, and expect me to take it!" He shouted at the big dolt, striking out at the Jedi's knee's a few more times for good measure. That'll teach him a lesson. "Alright you lot," the knight barked, now thoroughly awake and determined to have something to show for it, "Into the training room, all of you! Since your friend Knight Alais has soooo much to say about all this training you're doing in the middle of the night, I want to see it. Show me what you've been working on. And it better be worth disturbing my slumber."

Fennex stomped between KR3CH's legs and into the dark room, waving the lights on as he entered.

"And do something about this clanking scrap heap!"

Klyyd flinched as Master Fennix scolded them. Looking down at the floor hoping he wouldn't be noticed. He hoped he would not escort them back to their quarters personally. He did not feel like explaining the broken bed tonight. With the Jedi Master focused on the Jedi who had made the ruckus, Klyyd slowly tried to back away around the corner. Little did he know, at that very moment a maintenance droid was rounding the corner as well. Sweeping under his legs, Klyyd tumbled backwards over the droid, hitting his head on the floor. He picked himself up, looking to the droid, and angrily pounded it with his fist. "Go on. Get out of here." Klyyd said with a huff. As the droid skittered off, he turned back to the group, embarrassed, but they had already gone into the other room.

Vin followed the little terror of a Jedi into the training room, pulling out her blade as she moved. As if she wasn't terrified enough already, he wanted her to put up a demonstration of her lightsaber skills? Could this day get any worse.

Well, apparently it could. Distracted by the scary fox, she didn't notice how she was holding her blade and ignited it backwards, the blue blade shooting out not away from her but straight at her.

The blade went out with a span as it slipped from her fingers and clattered to the floor, as she followed it down in a painful heap. KR3CH was upon her within seconds, turning her around and patting at her stomach for a wound. He found nothing, only increased the pain she was feeling.

Looking around at the concerned and surprised faces around her, she took in a deep breath to steady her shaken nerves. Don't worry, training blade. She summoned the blade to her hand, and noticing KR3CH's disappointment, ignited the blade straight into his chest. It would do as little harm to him as it had to her, but it did shock him enough to send him crashing to the floor. That's what he got for being disappointed that she hadn't accidentally eviscerated herself.

“Kriff that hurts!” Justinian yelped quickly as the small fox like Jedi smashes his knee with the lightsaber hilt. Rubbing his kneecap gingerly a wincing Justinian would tilt his head at the master “That’s an awful lot of aggression for such a little Jedi. I thought you senior knights were supposed to be zen.”

Flashing his most convincing smile Justinian would quickly speak over himself in an attempt to avoid the Fox’s response to his comments “besides we are all here doing emergency raid training, we’re trying to be ready for any night attacks that may occur. War and all you’ll never know what those hate filled exiles will try.” He’d motion to the sorry lot around them “that is why we’re all looking so haggard. Frankly fellow Knight were this an actual night time raid your lashing out would negatively impact us all, please control your aggression in the future, this is unbecoming of you.”
