dice rolls
Raithal sucked. It was permanently frozen, cold, windy, and just all-around unpleasant weather. Of all the habitable planets in the galaxy, why people chose to inhabit balls of ice The Wook did not know. And yet here people were. For one reason or another, Raithal tended to be a destination for veterans. Perhaps the harsh conditions on the planet gave them some sort of challenge, an enemy to face and overcome in order to survive. Things they had been taught and trained to do, but civilian life didn't accommodate for. As with any large population of veterans, some were adapting well to civilian life, while others were not. A lot lacked the direction or the skills to transfer into a successful civilian career.
The Wook was going to offer them something to do that they knew how to, and at better pay than the pittance many received while in the military. It was towards the goal of taking a corvette from Drek Vann, a successful Vigo that was notoriously loyal to Balla the Hutt. If The Wook killed Balla without dealing with Drek, it was almost a guarantee that Drek would spite The Wook, abscond with the corvette, and plot revenge. The dude certainly would have both the means and motivation. Usurping Balla would be difficult enough without having to deal with a well-equipped Vigo with an axe to grind. Plus, if The Wook could get a corvette in addition to what assets Balla controlled, then that was the obvious way to go.
A building loomed ahead of them in a lees-than-wealthy part of town. It was a veteran's outreach center that tried its best with limited funding, personnel, and government ambition to improve the lives of the veterans living in this part of town and help them find gainful employment. The Wook agreed with their mission statement. After all, if someone did you a solid, you owed them more than a cheap salary. He and Tage were going to pose as Outer Rim merchants that suffered from a spate of piracy, and needed crews that didn't dump their cargo at the first sign of trouble. That should get them past the door and presented with a list of candidates that were promising. From there, they could determine which veterans would actually be willing to work for the Cartel on a corvette.
