DESCRIPTION
The 40-series attendant droid is model of combined maintenance and security droid manufactured by Blackwell Automata, a division of the venerable Blackwell Technologies corporation. Designed to serve the needs of customers with remote, generally uncrewed facilities, the 40 series incorporates most of the features of an astromech droid, though it lacks the ability to integrate with spacecraft or calculate hyperspace jumps. It gains more robust construction and limited combat capabilities, however.

40s are primarily meant to perform inspection and maintenance of mothballed or automated facilities. They are equipped to perform maintenance and repair of various pieces of machinery, but can also function as security guards. Though often dismissed due to their unassuming appearance, they are actually quite competent at this latter task, capable of precision shooting and relatively sophisticated tactical analysis.

40-series attendant droids are meant to operate on their own for long periods of time, their remarkably stable personality matrices and excellent programming requiring only a bare minimum of sentient oversight. Barrel-shaped in its design, the 40 series rides on a set of robust tracks, and is equipped with a diverse suite of sensors and tools. Its casing is composed of high-impact plasteel, allowing it to shrug off most physical blows, and even light weapons fire. Notably, the unit is equipped with a precision targeting sub-processor, as well as a light stun blaster, allowing it to subdue any intruders it may discover during its patrols of a given facility.

40s can coordinate with local security systems and other droids via comlink or direct computer connection. In the absence of organic superiors, they are designed to take charge of a given situation. They will also issue a distress call if they judge a situation untenable.

LEGALITY
Legal. Though arguably considered combat droids, the 40 series' non-lethal armament and maintenance function qualify them as civilian models.

INTENT
To create an unassuming guard droid that characters may encounter in commercial and other non-military facilities.
