Hell no. They rarely (if ever) have anything to identify them other than the fact they are shooting at our soldiers. And, as I am sure anyone from there will tell you, not everyone with a gun in that country is labeled as hostile. A lot of the people carry guns as common protection and mean no harm if left alone. That is what makes the entire war so difficult: you can't always tell who is friendly or hostile until they open fire and then, it is sometimes too late.

Also, to let everyone rage a bit more, some dipweed I have on Facebook, the guy who thinks ever major event is a conspiracy by the government, is trying to convince me the people in this helicopter were the SEAL team that were responsible for the fake raid on Osama's compound ('cuss naturally he wouldn't believe Osama was dead). It was shot down to keep them quiet.

I've read that the "Taliban" is often just an umbrella term used for those fighting the Afghan government.

That's not really true. The Taliban are a specific group with specific goals that go beyond just repelling American forces from Afghanistan.
