DESCRIPTION
The 1977-series light space platform is a model of space station manufactured by the ailing Consolidated Hulls Corporation, an ancient company whose 500-series platform was once one of the most popular space station designs in the Galaxy. Unfortunately, it's been a long time since then, and CHC has decided to try one last time to reverse its failing fortunes, creating another of the simple, versatile designs that put them on the market in the first place.

The 1977-series platform is an incredibly simple design, not much more than a bundle of pressurized cylinders, with the entire length being about 60 meters. The station has fairly spartan accommodations, including a small observation lounge with an entertainment holotable, a vending machine area typically providing food, drinks and other items for travelers, a crew galley with an integrated autochef, refresher compartments and holobooths.

Notably, the 1977-series has 10 configurable work areas, which can be set up for a number of different functions, from entertainment venues to scientific research labs to light manufacturing bays; they can even be combined to form larger spaces. These are the station's main selling points, allowing the 1977 to be used for any number of applications as desired by the customer.

Unlike a starship, which has drive systems to monitor, maintain and command, requiring dedicated personnel, the 1977 is stationary, allowing it to be operated by a crew of just 5, or less depending on the station's intended role. To save on repair and maintenance costs - and to save time during development - the 1977 uses many parts sourced from freighters, including a command deck which closely resembles that of a mid-sized Corellian Engineering Corporation freighter in terms of appointments and layout. The full crew compliment consists of an overseer/commander, communications/sensor specialist, med-tech, security guard and engineer. These positions can mostly be filled by droids or otherwise automated, if desired, although at a much reduced rate of efficiency compared to organics. The station has a small 3-bed medcenter to provide any medical treatment that may be required, as well as an equally small detention block for rowdy crew and passengers.

The 1977 series, in addition to its 5 crew, can accommodate up to 15 passengers, with living arrangements in the form of an equal number of single-being sleeping capsules. Generally, 1977s are not intended to function as long-term residential stations for any except the crew, who are provided with somewhat more spacious private quarters.

Of note, although 1977s have no internal hangar spaces, they are equipped with 5 external docking rings, allowing ships to latch onto the station to transfer cargo and personnel. Very large vessel can even use this connection to carry a 1977 through hyperspace. As a result, they are very easy to deploy and move, another popular feature.

1977-series light space platforms can be configured for any number of uses, but are generally used as travel way-stations, or as outposts in sparsely populated systems. They often serve as communication relays and bases for law enforcement and search-and-rescue services in remote areas. 1977-series platforms are also sometimes used for specialized or dangerous small-scale manufacturing. Some criminal syndicates use them for spice processing operations, or for other illegal activities, their small size and ease of movement making them quite desirable.

Of note, due to its failing fortunes, CHC is not keen to ask too many questions of its customers. They will sell a finished 1977 to just about anyone, so long as their credits are good.

LEGALITY
Legal. 1977-series light space platforms are legal to purchase and operate in most of the Galaxy.

INTENT
To create a very small space station which it would be feasible for individual characters to own and operate. Essentially the equivalent of a light freighter.
