Where do you get...

...the inspiration for characters. What usually gives you the idea to create them?

Easy.

Just make your character incredibly cliche and unoriginal. A christ-like figure or a cold-blooded serial killer will do. Mentally insane characters seems to be popular nowadays too.

Or, you can always watch a semi-popular movie and based (rip off) your entire character off of the main hero/villain. IE: Dark Knight etc.

Going through life. Pictures, music, things that I see happen. Everything.

I suppose I was more interested on how each person did it.

I don't want to rip a character or make a serial killer or generic character.

Thats why I have yet to create a character.

I take the design of an existing character and work from there.

Just make something up, if it works, run with it.

You'll find some characters don't click with you, others click with other people but not you. Finding a good balance is the key.

Yeah... the only thing running through my head is an OCPD jedi padawan.

First! i get an Idea and think it out

Then I hit myself over the head repeatedly until that idea is horribly warped

Then I read something Sheo said at some point in these forums and make it apply to my character in some way

Finally I give them a latin name (lol indomitus)

Okay really I just make it up on the spot and keep adding details and add some 'uncool' spots and imperfections to make them 1) more realistic and interesting 2) fun/funny to me

I listen to music, watch movies. Or if you find a really cool picture just look at it long enough and it is like it starts to talk to you and tells you what it wants to be. and no I am not insane.:CIsee:

Just think of ideas or make a character based off yourself dude doing something you'd wanna do.

I'm sorta getting an idea. Ish.

My brain is a confusing place...I come up with people all the time to fit the warped and fantastical story lines running around, and play them out with stix in ym backyard...(wow, I'm 15 and still do these things...:CShock:)

After that, I try to make a cool, original ways to write about the people.

Creativity is key.

How long do you guys usually take in making a character?

I get mine from music, books, and Metalocalypse.

EDIT: It takes me one day to get the idea straight and post it then another day or two to edit it.

People actually watch Metalocalypse? That looks like the worst show ever made.
