Calm and professional, Shiro Yama is a man who has seen and experienced much of the known galaxy. Beneath that disciplined surface, however is a clever and an observant man with a great curiosity for knowledge. Shiro believes in the principle of what he calls 'knowing your enemy and knowing yourself.'
As such he has spent a great deal of effort to study the different cultures inside and outside Republic space, including the Sith's to gain an advantage for the war effort. Because of this pursue for knowledge, Shiro has over the years become a lover of many forms of arts and is known to spent hours listening to the rhythms of Twi'lek music, watching the latest holofilms, or sampling a new wine vintage.
Shiro prefers to examine details and facts first, before rendering a judgement. In his eyes anyone, especially those in authority who refuse to do so are dangerous fools. Being a combat pragmatist, the lieutenant would use almost any ruthless means if he thought it could safeguard the Republic, except for genocide and other similar decisions sadistic acts.
Some would accuse him of becoming like the enemy in that approach, which concerns him as well. Yet he is firmly against the Brotherhood and what they stand for. Its just in his opinion he has be willing to make the hard choices so that people can live to be free. With that in mind, he is flexible enough to consider mercy if he believes such a course doesn't harm the overall goal.
Being spaceborn, Shiro Yama claims no single world as home, rather viewing the galaxy as a whole, specifically the Republic itself in that matter. In regards to personal life, Shiro makes great effort to form bonds with ordinary people, in order to remember what's he fighting for. So far he would call it in a 'work in process'. The reason why is because the paranoia and mistrust that breds in his line of work makes its hard to form deeper connections beyond those shared in conflict.
When it is all said and done, Shiro Yama is a man dedicated to duty and yet in search for inner peace.
Post Time Skip: Following the collapse of the Republic and surviving the Coruscant slaughter, Shiro lost his purpose, becoming angry and bitter. The former soldier would've drank himself to death, if he had not gotten himself captured by the Mandalorians on Tatooine. At first Shiro hated the Dominion for its role in destroying the GAR. Yet the years go by in captivity he gained a newfound respect for his captors, envying their sense of purpose and family.
Born on aboard a merchant freighter, Shiro Yama was raised by his single mother Makoto, who was employed as the ship's doctor. Even at a young age, Yama displayed a great deal of curiosity for anything new or strange that was heighten further with the constant travel from one section of the galaxy to another. These experiences gave Yama a wider view of things, especially with the guidance of his mother who encouraged him to develop a constant habit of study and form his own opinions on different subjects.
Also he was taught by the some of the crew to fight with his fists and how to use blasters in his adolescence.
When turning eighteen, Shiro Yama enrolled to one of the top universities on Coruscant to study law. For someone who was used to living like a nomad, it was a challenge to adjust at first. Eventually he did with the help of a fellow student he grew to love, Nani Dakar. She was an intelligent young woman who believed in an radical reform for the Republic, and Yama followed her on that path in political activism. For a time, Yama was having the time of his life standing for a cause with the woman he loved.
Yet as time moved on however Nani grew frustrated with the lack of progress in changing the system and becoming more militant. Their relationship suffered as a result, with Yama strongly disagreeing with the violent rhetoric Nani now believed in. Even so he still loved her and ignored the dangerous signs of what Nani was becoming until it was too late. One day the university suffered a bomb attack, killing dozens of people, including Makoto who came to visit her son.
His grief became worse when discovering that Nani was involved and had fled. Betrayed, Yama quit college and pursued his former lover, becoming a bounty hunter. After two years of constant searching and learning the ways of a bounty hunter but he tracked Nani down to Taris, who had become part of a terrorist cell, with pro Sith leanings. Assisting the security forces in their anti-terrorist campaign, Shiro eventually joined the final raid that wiped out the cell. In the end, Nani was found lying an pool of blood, found by the man who once loved her.
At first defiant she cursed him and the Republic, expecting to be taken into custody.
Instead Shiro Yama, just stood there in silent hatred, as she continued to bleed out, in desperation she begged to put out of her misery. Still he didn't move, showing noting but utter contempt yet Nani's cries finally broke through to him. With bitter emotions Shiro Yama raised his blaster to Nani at the head and she whispered gratitude before he pulled the trigger, ending her life for good.
Afterward Shiro Yama gave up the bounty hunting profession, joining the Taris defense forces, then switching into the ranks of the Border Alliance that transformed into the Grand Army of the Republic. He has gained quite the reputation in the years since as one of their finest specialists in both counter-intelligence and combating terrorism/insurgencies.
Post Time Skip: Having fought and survived the Battle of Coruscant, Shiro became a fugitive. For the next few months he drank down his sorrows from one cantina to another, until being captured by Damionion forces, following a scuffle he started in drunken rage.
Five years since Shiro Yama, has been their captive on Mandalore. His bitter defiance toward the warriors eventually gave way to acceptance of his fate and longing for what they have. As result Shiro has converted to the Dominion's cause and was released, following a court order. Soon enough he was welcomed as a new member into Clan Fett and was trained as a Mandalorian warrior. Ever since Shiro Yama Fett has served as a commando for his adopted people.
