Born 'n' Raised
Samuel "Sam" Kryze was born Mandalore into a military family. His father was a marine in the Mandalorian Defense Army, several decades after the great Sith War. His father saw very little action, but was one of the soldiers responsible for rebuilding the galaxy after the horrendous destruction the sith brought on. Growing up a military life Sam was used to moving around, finding himself living significant amounts of time on Mandalore, Concordia, Concord Dawn, Chandrilla, Corellia, Onderon, and Zeltros as his father was deployed across the galaxy. His dad was a heavy drinker and had a relatively unhappy marriage with his mother, but the two of them never divorced. The couple agreed that it was important for Sam to grow up with an intact family, this loyalty to their family was a value instilled upon Sam at a young age, as was the drinking of his father. As a kid Sam began his drinking habits, a 'hobby' that would stick around for the rest of his life.
Military Career
When Sam turned 18 he, too, enlisted in Mandalore's defense army. Like his father Sam was stationed across the galaxy, though unlike his father, he never settled down with a girl. The unrest of his family at home prevented him from ever forming a stable relationship. Instead he would experience a series of one night stands, and hot fast relationships. Sam's role in the military was as a munitions expert, specializing in explosives. Through this he became relatively expert at handling, creating, and manipulating explosives, as well as other heavy weaponry. Sam served nearly 20 years in the Mandalorian Defense Force before the formation of the Border Alliance. He advocated strongly against allying with other worlds, as it would force Mandalore to commit resources to other interests besides her own - a feat he feared they could not afford in their fragile climate.
Leaving the Military
The Top Brass of Mandalore's defense army decided against Sam's recommendations, however, and allied themselves with the Border Alliance. Unwilling to put up with the 'bureaucratic bullshit' as he so eloquently put it, Sergeant Samuel Kryze resigned his commission in the Mandalorian Defense Force at the age of 43, and moved back to Mandalore. Settling down in Sundari, Sam began a life of relaxation. Getting into short and profitable relationships with older single women in the Sundari area, and later mooching off of them, Sam lived a short period of his life in bliss. This lasted less than a year, however, and then his pension dried up - Mandalore now economically tied up with the war and unable to afford to pay their retired soldiers. Due to this Sam took up a mercenary career, offering protection, military work and coordination, and bounty hunting to clients with the pockets to pay him. The work ground down on his conscience, but also caused him to become more accustomed with adjusting his opinions. More and more he found himself on the side of the war away from the Republic, and venturing into Sith space. Through all of this, however, after every job he would find himself back at a beach in Sundari.

First and foremost instilled upon him as a kid was Mandalorian ideals. The resol'nare, the warrior ideals, Oya Manda, the whole lot of it. Sam saw these ideals fade away from the Mandalorian culture as a whole as they began to worry more about the fate of the Republic, rather than their own fate. With the rise of Death Watch these long held ideals began to rise up in Sam once again, and the pesky needle of his moral compass began to spin once more. No doubt some of their methods were... rogue. Sam wouldn't lie and say that they were always the good guys, or even ever the good guys, but they had Mandalore at heart, and he could see that. Loyalty. If there is one word that describes Sam, it is that. Loyalty to his family, loyalty to his friends, and above all - loyalty to Mandalore. . This value was carved into Sam by his father from a young age, mainly through example rather than any formal lesson. His father demonstrated this by staying in an unhappy marriage due to his loyalty for Sam, and his loyalty to the marriage vows.Though he feels this intense sense of Loyalty, Sam is plagued by the inability to settle down with one girl, likely due to his lifetime of moving around. He's left many women at the altar, or walked away from many a long term relationship. From his father he, too, picked up his lifelong drinking habit. He prefers the word drinker to alcoholic, though, as alcoholic is too negative. Sam was reckless as a kid, due to growing up as a military kid. Constantly moving from base to base deprived the boy of lifelong friends, and any kind of stability in life. Due to this he acted out a bit as a teenager, though this recklessness was beaten out of him by the military during his own service.
Sam is slow to anger, and levelheaded. Though, his cool temper should not be misperceived as mercy. Sam saves mercy for the underprivileged, and those who deserve it. He is entirely willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done, and soothes his conscience by repeating 'the end justifies the means'.
