Lifespan: Up to 200 standard years
Biology: Rinthars are tall insectoid aliens, standing between six foot and seven foot. Their limbs are thin and thus relatively weak compared to their bulbous, exoskeleton-protected torso. With feet good for perching on tree limbs and taloned fingers and toes, Rinthars were built for the tree-coated environment of Urce's northern hemisphere.
Breeding: Rinthars, being a unisex species, reproduce asexually. This is done every six years approximately, when Rinthars become fertile and begin to single-mindedly search for food with an insatiable hunger. This process lasts for six months until the Rinthar discharges an egg from their mouth. The Rinthar then enters a hibernation period for three days, embracing the egg in its dwelling and only awakening when sensing immediate danger. After this period, the egg hatches and the Rinthar hatchling is cared for by its defensive parent for three months until it's grown up enough to join the tribe.
Strengths:
+ Naturally gifted with footwork
+ Vital organs well-protected by exoskeleton
+ Sharp talons
+ Keen perception
+ Extremely protective
Weaknesses:
- Relatively frequent and handicapping reproduction cycle
- Limbs vulnerable to breaking
- Wariness of outsiders
- Natural stubbornness
- Seemingly distant and separated
Diet: Rinthars are primary carnivorous with the occasional fruit and nuts added to the mix, due to their nature as hunter-gatherers and their homeworld's inadequacy as an agriworld.
Behavior/Temperament: Rinthars are a tribal people. They tend to be very wary of outsiders and stick to their own ways, but are very reliant and trusting of one another to a fault.
Communication: Rinthars are beings of few words. Though they can speak Basic and have a special tongue in which to speak to outsider Rinthars, Rinthars rarely speak (if at all) to their fellow tribesmen unless in a formal setting. This is not because they have nothing to say, but rather Rinthars, being naturally close to the Force, can transmit thoughts to those they are close on an emotional level.
Culture: See Culture section of Urce article
History: See History section of Urce article
Planet: Urce
Technology: Once a primitive species, the Rinthars slowly embraced technology and melded it with their own to form very retro designs. The influences of Rinthar culture led the species to develop weapons such as energy bows and architectural designs such as the cities built in to the sides of mountains.
Intent: Besides giving me an excuse to make a Turian character, I figured that Urce, which I recreated for the forums a year ago, wouldn't be complete without an interactive species. Sure, we have Mandalorians, and Jedi Knights, and Sith Lords to choose from, but wouldn't it be great it we could create another iconic species with a wicked culture to play as? I make this species and took inspiration from Elven culture and Native American culture, and I used the Polish language to come up with some of the important names for cultural items. I think this gives players a unique source to look toward if they want to make an unconventional character that still fits in the Star Wars mythos.
