DESCRIPTION​

The R-799 micro-missile gun is an archaic weapon once manufactured by the Brojers Arms corporation, a long defunct armorers house which was once prominent within the Galaxy, but whose product range turned out to be only something of a fad. The R-799 itself takes the form-factor of a heavy pistol, but rather than blaster bolts it fires small unguided rocket projectiles. These rockets, upon striking a target, detonate a tiny shaped charge in their nose, generating damage consistent with a heavy blaster rifle. They are quieter than blasters, their report being no louder than a soft hissing sound, with the explosive charge being no louder than an uncorked toniray bottle.

R-799s are stealthy weapons, and were favored by bounty hunters and assassins. However, they have a number of disadvantages over conventional blasters that quickly made them fall out of favor. For one thing, the weapon holds only 6 rounds, and is time-consuming to reload (requires 1 round to do so). It also has limited range compared to conventional rifles, with the projectiles having only enough propellant to travel 60 meters, just beyond the range of a pistol. Though more compact than a comparable blaster, it is still bulky, and incorporates a number of delicate components that make it relatively fragile as well.

The R-799 has been out of production for centuries, and, due to its status as a missile launcher, runs afoul of many modern laws regarding civilian weapon possession. Working examples are rare, and functional ammunition almost more-so. Despite this, the R-799 does still have its devotees, primarily including assassins and infiltrators. It is mainly the domain of exotic weapon collectors, however.

LEGALITY​

Illegal. Ownership of personal rocket launchers is heavily restricted on most worlds, and the R-799 falls into this category. Special licenses may be obtained, but this is exceedingly rare.
