BIOGRAPHY

Early Life

Jakob was born on Mandalore, the younger of he and his twin Brother Raynar. Born under the Hunter and the Conqueror, the two were born of stubbornness and with the will and drive to be leaders of men. As a child he and his brother were often found missing by their mother who would always find the twins hidden in some dark room babbling to each other as they imagined far off worlds, battles to be fought, and victories earned. They were Mandalorian through and through and as they grew older and began training with their father their natural born skill came out. Jakob tended more towards the cerebral aspects of war, finding a home in computers, intelligence files, and stealth training, becoming a literal ghost on the battlefield.

Halfway through Jakob's 7th year his family was blessed with another child, Jeyne, a strong and healthy girl who was born under the sign of the Healer and Warrior, an auspicious omen for her future. Those born under the Sign of the Healer are considered the luckiest of the Clan, while the Warrior blesses those under his protection with a strong will. Jakob immediately bonded with the infant, volunteering for extra duties in order for their mother to take a rest. When he wasn't off with his father training or with Raynar causing trouble he was with Jeyne.

At 13 Jakob and Raynar underwent their Verd'goten together, an oddity in Mandalorian culture, but because of their bond the two were allowed to enter the trial as one. Thrown deep into the Wilderness together the two were forced to hike over 300km to reach the city of Keldabe through some of the most inhospitable terrain on the planet. When they reached their destination they were greeted as only true warriors are by their father. He took them into the oldest tavern on the planet and introduced them to the gathered Mandalorians as their newest brethren.

As Jakob grew older he found himself spending more and more time in the various museums to the Mandalorians dotted around the planet. He grew to love the ancient weapons and armor, the artifacts extolling the past victories of a great people. The curator of the Museum of Victory in Sundari, a bent and frail old Rodian who had long outgrown his time as a warrior took an interest in the 15 year old and offered him a post as a junior curator. Jakob eagerly accepted and began to spend more and more time away from his brother. It was here the cracks began to form between Jakob and Raynar. Raynar felt that Jakob had betrayed him by leaving the family behind for his own interests, while Jakob saw Raynar as small minded due to his pursuit of nothing but martial perfection. The two brothers who had once been so close began to grow estranged.

Shortly after his 18th year Jakob met Parja during a visit to the Museum. The young woman captivated the curator and he began to woo her. Parja's father, an old warrior, saw the romance as dishonorable to his family and did everything in his power to keep the two young lovers apart. But the young Mandalorians would not be dissuaded and made plans to wed as soon as possible. And then disaster struck.

Jakob was called up to partake in a set of missions across the outer rim to bring much needed material and technology to the Clans. Since no warrior is allowed to ignore the call of Mandalore Jakob said his goodbyes, took his armor, and boarded a transport ship to the staging ground. Once he arrived he was placed among the 9th, an ancient company known for their resilience and guile in the crucible of war. Due to his knowledge and position within his Clan Jakob was made a squad leader and placed in command of Galaar squad and tasked with infiltration missions behind enemy lines.

The 9th
Jakob and the 9th joined their brothers in the expeditionary fleet and spent 6 weeks to their initial deployment to a world who's name is not even recorded in Mandalorian archives, only being denoted by the designation ML-742. It fell in less than three weeks to the combined strength of the Mandalorians and their mighty war machine. As supporting fleets and their legions of miners and technicians moved in to strip the planet of anything that could be of use the great fleet moved on. The fleet jumped from planet to planet, subjugating native populations and taking the spoils back to Manda'yaim in long convoys to help feed the growing need for metals and technology that the Mandalorians required.

As Jakob moved further and further from home he received news from his sister Jeyne that Raynar had murdered his squad and disappeared from the 3rd in the aftermath of the conquest of RS-131. Jakob disavowed the report as complete fabrication, knowing that his brother would never do such a thing. Raynar was the Mandalorian's Mandalorian, and even at such a young age was already being talked about as a successor for The Leader of Clan Merrik. This could not be. It just couldn't. Due to their relationship Jakob came under scrutiny as well, but he deflected it with proof of his and his brother's distance and strained relationship. This saved him the interrogation chambers deep in the heart of the Steadfast Warrior and kept him in command of Galaar squad.

On the world designated ML-745 Galaar squad was ordered to clear a swamp along with various elements of the 1st, 5th, and 8th in search of a repository of technology. The repository was never found but Galaar did find the ancient remains of a long abandoned temple, overgrown and hidden deep within the swamp. It was filled with ancient artifacts that were inscribed in an ancient script that Jakob did not recognize. Jiang And Lucius, two veteran members of Galaar claimed pieces from the Temple and secured them to their person. Jakob cautioned them against it but the two believed the artifacts held no power or malice.

As the campaign came to a close on the world of ML-747 Galaar was fractured at their core. Jiang and Lucius had fallen under the spell of the artifacts they had taken and betrayed Galaar during a hunt. They killed 5 before they were taken down by the remainder of the squad. After this the squad moved through their days as if they were in a trance, moving with the fleet and fighting as if they were lost. When the campaign finished 3 months later the squad parted ways, the memories of what had happened fresh in their minds. Over the next few years Jakob received sporadic word on the remaining members. Within 4 years the 6 remaining members besides Jakob were dead, killed by their own hand.

Jakob returned to Manda'yaim a different man then when he had left, and attempted to re-enter his old life.

Homecoming
In a small ceremony Jakob married Parja upon his return and returned to his old job at the Museum. But as time went on he found himself haunted by flashbacks of his time at war. As a result he began to throw himself more and more into his work, delving into ancient texts and exploring parts of the archive that no one had set foot in for hundreds of years. Parja, worried about her husband's obsession, tried to help her husband overcome his night terrors that caused him to wake in a cold sweat, his old squadmate's names on his tongue. When she could do nothing to calm him, she called the only one that she thought could help. Jakob's Sister. Jeyne immediately came to Sundari to help soothe her tortured brother's soul.

They found Jakob hard at work in the archives, poring over an old tome from the times when Mandalore had fought beside the Sith. Sweat beaded on his brow and dust hazed the air as he flipped pages feverishly. He was so close. The true killer of Galaar was almost within his grasp. For months he had been connecting the dots, following leads as they took him from one artifact to the next, one dusty tome to another. All of them contained some hint of the true picture that needed to be found.

In the last few weeks the nightmares had been getting worse. Jakob wasn't sleeping, wasn't eating, wasn't able to focus on anything but making his fear stop. Fear of his failure, fear of his lost soul, the fear that he would never be whole again. Jiang and Lucius taunted him whenever he closed his eyes and it was driving him insane. He saw his family die, his Clan wiped from the pages of history, and himself burn in the fires of hell for his weakness. Although nothing but visions they forced him to push himself to the very extent of his knowledge.

But even with the combined love and support of Parja and Jeyne Jakob could not be dissuaded from his path. He had lost so much. His twin was gone, his vode were dead, and he was haunted by the memories. But he would lose more before he found peace. Parja attempted to understand her husband for over 2 years, before hsi complete absence and lack of love drove her to leave him and bond herself to another. His parents died of a strange illness, and Jakob found himself alone. Alone except for Jeyne, who made sure that she visited every day, bringing her brother food and an ear to listen. Msot of what he said was disjointed, talk of lost civilizations, an ancient evil race, and of corrupted artifacts. But sometimes the haze would break, and for a time he would be her brother again. And in this the young woman rejoiced. She was only 15 and had lost just as much as Jakob, but she had to be there for him.

After 4 solid years of research Jakob finally found his answer. Those artifacts that Jiang and Lucius had taken were of the ancient Sith. Jakob had heard of the Force, trained to fight against those who used it, but he had never heard of the taint of it existing in inanimate objects and infecting others. There were stories of course, told to young children in their beds. Until now, that was all they had been. But this changed everything. The stories were true.

And now Jakob had a target.

He had not concerned himself with the Republic or the Border Alliance or their battle with the Sith. Even though Mandalore was a Republic system their warriors had always been free to choose their own battles. And now Jakob had chosen his.

Over the next 2 years Jakob trained, teaching himself how to track and kill those who had wronged him. When he wasn't knee deep in cataloging and maintaining the museum he found himself with various mercenary companies around the galaxy. On a mission with the infamous Tracian Reserve Jakob lost his eyes to an exploding artillery shell. He was outfittted with Farsight optical replacements designed b Sorosuub, giving him improved sight and a built in HUD and multiple vision modes.

Jakob spends his days buried in the archives delving into forgotten knowledge and researching Mandalorian history. He maintains his skills through his forays into bounty and mercenary work while training Jeyne in obscure combat skills not practiced for millenia.

Psychological Analysis: Jakob Merrik
Sundari Medical Center Archives
Dr. Bralor

Jakob of Aliit Merrik was referred to me by his former wife and his sister due to a withdrawal from society and an obsessive interest in the Mandalorian archives. Apparently it took the combined efforts of multiple warriors to tear him away from his work and bring him here for care. He was malnourished, suffering from vitamin deficiencies, and has lost over 18% of his previously recorded muscle mass. After a physician treated him he was remanded to my care on a week hold.

I prescribed a strong sedative in order to provide him with some much needed sleep. As the orderlies restrained him he was almost yelling, most of it incoherent, but I was able to pick out a few words I understood, Sith and cursed the most recognizable among them. After the sedative wore off he slept for another 32 hours. He must have been truly exhausted.

When he awoke properly nourished and rested I found Jakob to be intelligent, well spoken, driven, and extremely charismatic. It is no surprise that he was selected as a squad leader in the 9th.

As we spoke Jakob opened up about his nightmares and fears. His time in the 9th affected him deeply at a base level, compounded by the suicide of his former squadmates. This has caused a deep rift between his personal and public life.

When it comes to his personal life he is decisive and authoritative, taking the variables into consideration and devising a branching plan that seems to provide a path for many possible outcomes.

In his public persona Jakob can be timid and worrisome when it comes to positions of authority. I believe this stems from the trauma that he has suffered over the last 5 years. With work I believe that he can find his voice again, especially if it is coupled with a cause he truly believes in.

Due to his position in our society Jakob has found himself in a unique place. Hailed as a war hero he has the attention and ear of the warriors, and as a respected historian with connections to an original clan he has the ear of political leaders. With therapy and a workable plan I believe that he could do great things.

I’ve prescribed a sleeping medication so that he can sleep and have ordered a strict physical regimen to keep him healthy. His sister has promised to look after him and assist in his therapy. I believe just having an assistant will do wonders for his psychological state.

We have scheduled weekly sessions for therapy and Jeyne has promised to make him keep it. Even though Jakob was resistant to the idea as many Mandalorians consider psychological trauma to be a sign of weakness, but with the promise of confidentiality and the prospect of making his nightmares stop he agreed.
