Hey guys, I've seen some confusion from a few people as to when the Sith returned and took over the Empire in relation to where we are currently in the timeline. The current year is 1,011 ABY. The Sith took over the Empire in 1,002 ABY, and the Jedi and Alliance learned about it around that same time.
So essentially, the Sith have ruled the empire for nine (9) years. Since then, the galaxy has been in a state of perpetual cold war while the Alliance and the Empire build up their forces in order to launch the coming war, as both sides had significantly reduced their numbers during the eight and a half centuries of peace. Nine years would've been far too long in any other situation, but the galaxy was not ready to be in a state of war and everyone knew it.
I hope that clears up any confusion. If you have any other questions in regards the timeline, please be sure to read the timeline history and also post any questions you have here.
