DESCRIPTION
The YV-545 light freighter is a versatile transport ship designed and manufactured by the venerable Corellian Engineering Corporation. One of CEC's many attempts to replace the venerable YT-1300 in its lineup, the YV-545 proved popular in its own right, but was never able to eclipse its predecessor, which outlasted it on production. While it doesn't have the YT-1300's undying fan-base, the YV-545 has maintained a measure of popularity based on its own merits.

The YV-545 shares earlier YT line's saucer-shaped hull and offset cockpit, but incorporates a few new touches of its own. The ship's forward mandibles are asymmetrical, for example, with one shorter one terminating in a sensor dish, while the other is longer and contains various fuel tanks and other systems. The ship has a crew of 2, with capacity for up to 5 passengers, 1 less than the YT-1300, with consumables for up to 3 months in space, 1 more month than its predecessor. 80 standard tons of cargo can be carried, 20 less than the YT-1300, but top speed is 55 MGLT, which is indeed faster. Like the YT-1300, the YV-545 incorporates a class 2 hyperdrive. The ship's armament and defensive measures are standard, consisting of 2 dual medium laser turrets and a medium deflector shield.

The YV-545 is noted as being more technologically sophisticated than the YT-1300, making it slightly more complicated and time-consuming to maintain and repair. The type is generally sturdier and more reliable than its predecessor, however, and so this is seen as a worthwhile trade-off for some pilots.

YV-545s, like the YT series before them, are beginning to show their age a bit, but are still reasonably common and popular. CEC ended production of the type only 20 years ago, and so parts and ships are still relatively easy to find.

Legal. Light freighters such as the YV-545 are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems.
