DESCRIPTION
The YT-2550 started its production life not as its own model, but as the YT-2500. It was very much a failure in the eyes of the Corellian Engineering Corporation, a flawed attempt at designing a brand new generation of YT freighters. Operators and reviewers alike despised the ship, despite the fact it was agile over all it was just not worth its weight in slag. This gave CEC a major issue; as many YT-2500s did not ship they were just crowding up docking space and eating a hole in their pockets. No one wanted all of these freighters, and so many were built due to a preconceived notion that this line would be successful.

So the CEC made the major effort to start overhauling the 2500 design, redesigning it to best suit customer complaints. The overall speed of the craft was reduced to ensure no engine problems would be encountered, the sensors were heavily upgraded, and even additions like faster hyderdrives, more cargo space, and a more intuitive weapon layout were added on as bonuses. This design was then introduced as the YT-2550, and sold considerably better than the previous form.

It was successful as any refit could be, with enough of a demand that a small production run of entieley brand new 2550s were made. Smugglers, bounty hunters, and honest haulers alike all gave this craft rave reviews, which gave CEC the golden idea to offer a small charge to retrofit the old 2500s sold into 2550s, which tied the bow on the entire situation. All of this effort allowed CEC to turn a PR nightmare into a major win.


LEGALITY
Legal. Light freighters such as the YT-2550 are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems.

INTENT
To introduce a widely avalible light freighter that practically replaced an ineffective one and to add a new instilation in the YT line.
