DESCRIPTION
The YD series is a security and enforcement droid manufactured by Arakyd Industries. Originally designed as a war droid intended for sale to the Republic military at the tail end of the Clone Wars, the YD was intended to supplement the Republic's clones on the battlefield, but was cancelled after the Confederacy of Independent Systems was defeated. The design was archived by Arakyd, but was dusted off years later after the defeat of the First Order. Given a few upgrades, it was mass-produced and sold as a security model, and proved popular with small law enforcement agencies, private security forces, private citizens in need of a bodyguard and underworld figures in need of thugs whose loyalty would not be called into question.

The YD series stands 1.8 meters tall, with an armored durasteel casing capable of resisting light blaster fire, and a suite of sensors including a pair of sonar/audio pickups, a standard photoreceptor, a combined infrared sensor and motion detector and a dedicated rangefinder. Though it has no built-in armament, the YD is proficient with most ranged weapons, and is decent at hand-to-hand combat, both armed and unarmed. The type's tactical subroutines leave something to be desired, however the type's combat ability is still an improvement over many Clone Wars-era battle droids, such as the B1. YD-series droids come from the factory able to speak Basic and Huttese; the latter is often preferred, as it is judged to be more intimidating.

YD-series security droids are found in service across the Galaxy, often to less savory individuals and organizations. Despite this, the type's Republic-era origins seem to shine through in some cases; when given free reign to act, YDs display a stronger moral compass than many droids. In underworld service, the type is often fitted with a restraining bolt to ensure that it acts in the best interests of its owner. If this bolt is damaged or otherwise disabled, it is sometimes possible - though not easy - to convince a YD to join the other side.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Being combat models, YD-series droids require special permits and licensing for ownership in most regions.

INTENT
To create a standard security droid.
