DESCRIPTION​

The XQ5 platform is a class of space station which is produced and sold by the Bengel Shipyards corporation of Ord Thoden. Positioned as the company's entry into the space defense market, the XQ5 is more heavily armed and armored than other variants in the XQ line, incorporating duranium hull plating and a redundant shield generator, as well as dual medium turbolasers and quad medium laser cannons for engaging starfighters. Though hardly meant to go up against a star destroyer or other large capital ship, the station can hold its own against most frigates and corvettes, and is primarily meant as a deterrence against pirates and other minor nuisances. They can also act as fortified bases for quick-reaction interceptor and light attack squadrons, with hangar space for up to 36 starfighters or light starbombers.

The XQ5 is a fairly typical space platform design, consisting of a central core with three "arms" radiating out. The core section contains power, administrative and most crew and passenger accommodations; lesser functions and accommodations are located in the arms. The station by default is equipped with a hospital-grade medcenter, a detention block and an aerospace control center. Important areas of the interior are monitored by a holographic surveillance system, typically run by station security. The aerospace control center monitors traffic around the station, as well as any ships coming and going to and from the station's three large hangar bays and numerous external docking ports.

RESTRICTIONS​

XQ5 platforms are fairly common, but are not easy or cheap to obtain, being military products. They are typically faction assets, or can be found in use by local NPC forces. They are not something the average player character may obtain on their own.
