Devrim Wolfe

Galactic Alliance Jedi Padawan Combat Specialist Level 2
Dxun Human Male 27 Novice Force Sensitive
Henry Cavill - August Walker Theme

Character Information

Though perhaps not as tall as some, Devrim stands at the height of six-foot-one. His upbringing on Onderon’s “demon moon” of Dxun and rigorous training with the rebels visibly shows, as his broad shoulders and muscular physique easily make him stand out in a crowd. Devrim carries himself with unwavering purpose and focus, akin to one who is built for combat and survival in trying times.

His firm jawline is accented with black stubble and moustache, the same colour as his slicked back hair. Through receiving no permanent injuries other than minor scarring and burns, Devrim has deep scars along his back and side from the claw marks of a predator on Dxun. He seldom speaks of the fight, leaving it up to the imagination what happened to the beast that gave him the wound. Generally seen in common clothes — though on missions he dons his Jedi armour — few have ever even seen the scars, leading some to doubt whether they even exist.

A man of brevity, Devrim prefers action over words. He has a powerful baritone and speaks with a voice that commands nothing but the listener’s complete attention. His many years in the rebellion has greatly diminished Devrim’s sense of humour, although he still welcomes a good joke from time to time. Due to his upbringing on Dxun where people rarely stayed alive for more than a few years, the rebel previously did not become too attached to anyone he meets — they could have been dead the next week. However, he has since learned as a Jedi to open his mind and nurture a care for others, whether they are rebels of the Alliance or simple commonfolk. Devrim is fully committed to the rebel cause and the growth of the Jedi Order — he upholds them both above all else.

Though the Wolfes have been staunch supporters of the Empire at the heart of the Imperial Republica for generations, this was not the case with Devrim’s father. With the growing unrest in the Galaxy and bickering between royal bloodlines, he moved to Dxun, a moon of Onderon where an extremist rebel group was growing in strength. Meeting his spouse there, Devrim was born quite literally into the rebellion during a time of struggle for freedom. While most children grow up playing with toy starships and little Imperial troopers, Devrim was instead tasked with helping the rebels by cleaning guns and preparing kolto bandages for the wounded. A seemingly cruel childhood, this was born out of a necessity to survive in the harsh environment of the so-called “demon moon” of Onderon. As he grew up alongside the ragtag group he came to know as a family, the Rebel cell adopted far more aggressive tactics at the behest of a new extremist leader. Devrim’s mentality toward the other rebels changed as these dangerous strikes resulted in the constant deaths of his comrades. What used to be a family of like-minded individuals turned into a strike team where the strong survived and the weak were left behind. Despite this, the cell on Dxun perfected hit-and-run tactics — a trait that was noticed by the growing Galactic Alliance. With this new outside support, their operations prospered.

However, by the time Devrim reached his early twenties, both his parents were dead. All he had to remember them by was an azure hexagonal crystal he wore around his neck. Devrim dubbed it his “lucky charm”, as he experienced several unnatural occurrences he couldn’t explain — near misses, impossible shots, and sensing danger just before it came. The cell’s activities continued mostly unhindered until the unexpected happened — the Galactic Alliance’s headquarters on Dantooine was destroyed by the Empire. Reeling from this blow, the Alliance ordered the rebel cells near the Core to cease their aggressive tactics to prevent further unnecessary losses. It was not long after that the war between the Imperial Republica, the Old Empire, and the Mandalorian Clans erupted with the destruction of Medriaas. The cell on Dxun including Devrim was assigned to go scrounge what supplies they could from Onderon, and picked up a defector along the way. This is where his story began.

Stoic, resolute, and generally level-headed, Devrim has intense focus for whatever task is at hand. Whether that be repairing a broken speeder, learning a new combat strategy, or completing a hit-and-run operation, he only likes doing things once. Having grown up among the extremist rebel cell of Dxun where anyone could die at any time, Devrim has learned to distance himself emotionally from people and situations that arise. This makes him at first seem dispassionate, cold, and uncaring — which, although not false, is also not wholly true. While during his time as a member of the Dxun cell, his assignments and missions were more important to him than even another rebel who got caught or left behind. Having since rejected the methods of such extremists, he now regards the lives of innocents and his comrades of much greater significance. A man of few words, Devrim weighs actions far more than speeches. He would rather something be done than simply talked about for endless hours.

Beneath the intense visage of the survivor is in fact a caring man. Having lost both his parents to the war, deep down he is pained by their loss but pushes those emotions further within himself. Being a part of the Galactic Alliance is also not simply something Devrim does because it is the only life he’s ever known — he truly does care for the well-being of others and the Galaxy at large. Unwaveringly loyal to the cause, Devrim will follow orders of his superiors, thought not to the point that it costs the lives of his comrades or innocent people. Having been awakened in the Force, Devrim’s eyes have been opened and he sees the world in a far different light than he did as a member of the Dxun rebel cell. He now understands that all things are one with the Force, and as such he feels it is his duty to become a Jedi to better serve the Galaxy.

A rugged upbringing in the predator-filled forests of Dxun and rigorous training in his rebel cell has made Devrim Wolfe a force to be reckoned with. Being part of the cell that has perfected hit-and-run tactics has allowed him to hone his skills even further, with their aggressive tactics pushing him and his comrades to their breaking point of brutal efficiency.

    ⎔ ⎔ ⎔

    Physical Mastery

Physical Condition: Due to his extensive training throughout his entire life, Devrim Wolfe is in peak condition. Maintaining his fitness is essentially a requirement while serving with the Dxun rebel cell, one that he enjoys following in his daily routine. A born warrior, he is more than capable of defending himself or others should the occasion arise.

Marksmanship: A skilled sharpshooter in the rebel cell, Devrim is experienced with using a wide variety of firearms. With a steady hand and a good eye aiming down sights, he is also quick at reloading and clearing any malfunctions or jams. Unbeknownst to him, his Force sensitivity allows him to bolster his actions, subtly enhancing his aim and empowering his blows if he happens to call upon it in a tense moment.

Martial Prowess: Having been trained in martial arts and various self-defense techniques, Devrim is more than capable of fighting even if he is unarmed. Furthermore, he is well-versed in the use of several varieties of weapons should he become disarmed or have the opportunity to use an opponent’s weapon against them.

Shards of Vhoro
theme
tumblr_nmvim3TZg41qer734o1_1280.jpg

The Entropy Engine eating at the rock around it.
Eons ago, deep in a chamber inside the Necropolis on the dark planet Sepulcher, an abomination between magic and machine was created. An ancient Sith whose name lives on in his creation became obsessed with the properties of entropy and decay in all existing things. While many of his peers seeked to reverse and prolong aging and death, Vhoro found joy in expediting it. Of course, there were ways of siphoning life and slowly eroding objects through using the Force on them, but he wanted to discover a method of doing so through a Force-imbued creature or machine.

Vhoro’s initial biological creations and horrific Sithspawn were utter failures — wreaking havoc in the shrine and slaughtering people by the dozens before dying themselves moments later. Disappointed, he began experimenting further by creating bigger monsters, sometimes hacking off their limbs and replacing parts of them with cybernetics. These functioned even worse than before, often simply dissolving on the spot or being utterly unable to control. What surprised him, however, was the effect his Force magics had on the cybernetic limbs installed on the heavily mutated specimens. While the organic and biological couldn’t withstand the entropic effects and rotted before Vhoro’s very eyes, the imbued metal thrived.

Thrilled with this discovery, he instead began working on inanimate compounds and minerals, enhancing them with the ability to break down everything around them. Crafting a large, metallic sphere piece by piece, Vhoro Force-forged every section with painstaking care. The final result was the most beautiful work of art he’d ever seen. Once activated with a similarly Force-forged spear used as a key, the Entropy Engine begins radiating a destructive aura that erodes, rots, breaks down, and then absorbs everything around it up to nearly 200 meters away. Only one who wielded the key was immune to its entropic effects, and only the key was able to shut it off.

Realizing the immense destructive capabilities of the Engine, Vhoro revealed his masterpiece to the Dark Lords. A new chapter in their atrocities began, starting with the utter obliteration of an innocent village and its inhabitants as the Entropy Engine’s destructive capabilities were tested to its full extent. Afterward, Vhoro was rewarded by being promoted and given charge over a military detachment. Ever attack and invasion of his was spearheaded with Vhoro’s execrable creation — even in fleet warfare where it was used to break down and rip apart massive holes in enemy capital ships. Campaign after campaign for months on end it was used, with little hope in resisting the dark machine.

However, the Shadow Conclave of old had an agent disguised as one of the many assistants Vhoro kept for the project. After each use of the Engine, it was always taken back to the shrine where it was created on Sepulcher. Notifying the Conclave, they assaulted the Necropolis with all their strength, sweeping in and taking the Engine for themselves to prevent it from ever being used again. Vhoro’s wrath was terrible, but he had lost his prized possession and his research was destroyed. Never again was he able to recreate his Engine. The Conclave, with their most powerful Force users, split the machine into pieces called the Shards of Vhoro — scattering them across the galaxy.

The Engine after being activated, churning with energy and the power of the Dark Side.

Thousands of years later, with the fall and rebirth of the Conclave and many other great powers in the Galaxy, the Shards of Vhoro were all but forgotten and lost to time. The Accord discovered evidence of their existence and locations, but never fielded a full-scale effort to find them before their destruction under the rising Sith Empire. The new Reclusiarch of the Shadow Conclave reestablished contact with the settlements where the Shards were hidden, where they lay dormant and unused.

Dark Side Corruption

Due to the separation between Legends and what is now Canon, there has been some confusion as to what it means to use the Light Side and Dark Side of the Force. Previously, Force alignment was similar to something one would see in a video game such as Knights of the Old Republic or Star Wars: The Old Republic. Choices, actions, and even opinions would affect on a “scale” of sorts how deep in the Light or Dark side a Force user was. There was the Light Side, a neutral and “Gray” (or Balanced) Side, and a Dark Side.

In such a system, said choices and actions would affect what side a character’s Force alignment was — whether that be closer to the Light, Dark, or neutral area in between. As far as video games go, this is a relatively adequate system. For roleplaying scenarios, this far too simple and unrealistic.

Let’s use a Jedi for an example in such a system who is an exemplary individual and has proved time and time again that they’re a stunning example of Jedi teachings. One day, they commit an atrocious and horrific act, killing an unarmed opponent or becoming absorbed by their passions and manifesting a Dark Sided ability. As a result, the Jedi takes a huge dip in their Light Side alignment. This is where the system shows its failings, as there would be no serious repercussions other than moving lower on the Light Side scale or possibly into the neutral zone. The character is then able to walk away, completely untouched by the Dark Side’s influence, except perhaps that channeling Light Side powers is a little more difficult than before. To put this to a Canon example, it would be an equivalent of Anakin Skywalker murdering the all the Tusken Raiders in Attack of the Clones in his fit of rage, then returning to Obi-Wan and explaining that everything’s fine as he saved Padme’s life earlier. This is clearly immensely inaccurate to Canon.

It also simplifies all characters to a Light=good, Dark=evil equation, which is clearly not true. Jedi are more than capable of having evil motives and vice versa. Whether one is good or evil doesn’t directly correspond to their affiliation in the Force. To use another Prequel reference, think of Anakin Skywalker again. If Star Wars actually adhered to this system, then Anakin realistically couldn’t (not wouldn’t, but literally be unable to) fall to the Dark Side after defending Palpatine against Mace Windu. In short, it’s a flawed perspective when approaching the Force, and Alignment simply is not the same as Dark or Light Side affiliation.

Canon’s View of the Dark Side

The more reasonable and Canon-accurate way of approaching how Dark or Light one is in the Force is to treat it completely separately from alignment. Instead of being on a “scale” along with the Light Side, Dark Side corruption is a separate scale all on its own. It is essentially a “taint”, a profound and utterly overwhelming evil. It’s a power that grows stronger in locations, people, and objects that have been heavily touched by its presence, so much that it is immediately recognizable to any Force user. Furthermore, being separate from one’s morality, even the most noble and righteous hero can become entirely consumed by it. Corrupting body and mind in different ways, the Dark Side is intensely alluring and dangerous to use and incredibly difficult to break free of. However — it is powerful. Not more powerful than a true master of the Light Side, but it is a fast and easy method to become stronger in the Force.

To mirror the example of Anakin, look at how Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi momentarily gave in to his rage (and therefore the Dark Side) when protecting his sister from Darth Vader. Despite his noble intentions, the enticing nature of the Dark Side is powerful and clearly not on the same scale of one’s morality. Another good example is with Order 66 and Anakin’s attack on the Jedi Temple. Defiling a temple of the Light Side like that (not to mention straight up murdering children) would undeniably plunge him into the Dark Side. It makes sense that by the time he reaches Mustafar, Anakin was showing visible signs of how completely the Dark Side’s hold was on him, which weren’t there before then. Clearly, handling the Dark Side like taint rather than alignment fits better with what Canon has shown us.

A Note on Grey Jedi

There essentially two “versions” of Grey Jedi. The first and Canonical version refers to unorthodox Jedi who disagree with the Council. A good example would be Qui-Gon Jinn, or one who leaves the Order over philosophical disagreements. The second pre-Disney version refers to Force Users who use both Light and Dark sides of the Force equally. With the introduction of NuCanon, many still want to use Grey Jedi in this sense.

However, with the separation of Legends and Canon, a Force user simply cannot equally harness the Light and Dark sides of the Force without being affected either way. While there is quite an open approach to the use of Force powers on SWRP, there are very strong distinctions made between Light and Dark sides of the Force. The idea of Grey Jedi not only removes the flavour from creating a character on one side or another, it also ignores any restrictions or penalties as well. Furthermore, from a story perspective, it makes a character immune from falling to the Dark Side or being redeemed, as well as the internal struggle between Light and Dark. Look at how Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens states that he feels the pull to the Light — such a thing wouldn’t exist if both sides could be used and balanced equally.

Look at what Rey says when first discovering what the Force actually is. “Life. Death and decay, that feeds new life. Warmth. Cold. Peace. Violence.” And between it all? The Force. This is Canon’s true view on balance, which is the Light Side of the Force. Even death is a natural and essentially good part of life, where the Force thrives. The Dark Side is a complete perversion of such a balance — based on rage, pain, hatred, and something so wholly evil and corrupting that it erodes all it touches. That is the true nature of the Dark Side, and Grey Jedi simply have no place in the Star Wars universe.
