Verus Carid was somewhat old for a padawan. At the age of 23, he had not yet been accepted to train to become a Jedi Knight - not until today. Much of it was due to his cold and calculating nature, his arrogance, and his refusal to fully trust in the Force. The Jedi Knights had not thought him ready. Stepping inside the walls of the Great Temple on Ossus, Verus did it with the knowledge he would finally begin his training under a Jedi master.

He looked around, a thoughtful wrinkle on his forehead. The young Jedi hopeful couldn't help but be impressed by the incredible architecture of the Jedi temple. When he had first been captured by the Jedi so many years ago, a force sensitive child soldier raised by a harsh and merciless mercenary band, and persuaded to join the Order, it had been at a small Jedi enclave in the Outer Rim - nothing of this magnitude, however. He had never before seen so many Jedi in one place. Even the usually so composed Verus was visibly impressed by the grandeur of the sight.

Verus stepped up the stairs into the great entrance hall of the temple, passing many Jedi and padawans on his way. His cold grey eyes darted around, searching for his new master who would teach him the Path of the Jedi. He knew nothing about the person he would train under, however. And so he leaned against one of the walls, crossing his arms over his chest, and waited for his master to find him instead. His body, his eyes, even his posture hinted at the arrogance he carried himself with, earning him odd looks from many of the Jedi. He promptly closed his eyes, ignoring them.

The Knight could feel her new padawan enter the temple. She had been watching him through the Force for the past week. The archives could tell one so much and it was usually conducted through a bias opinion, that she could really know someone or something through personal observation. She moved down the halls of the temple, following his signature, and smirked at his arrogant enthusiasm to be here.

Rehni saw him leaning against the wall, she approached him silently in the Force until she was at arm's length, "Confusing, 23, yet yous acts 5." she said referring to his crossed arms, "Yetting yous come, acts you notting here to be?" she spoke.

When a voice addressed him, far too close to Verus for him to be comfortable, he opened his cold grey eyes, and set them on the person that had spoken. It was a young female Jedi, just slightly older than himself. He studied her for a moment, ignoring her remark about his age, before replying in his usual cold manner, though, something unusual for him, his voice did not carry the edge of insult that it usually did:

"You are the one to be my master, I take it?" He made a slight lowering of his head, symbolizing a bow, as he added: "I am Verus Carid."

"Knowing who you are." she told him with a nod, "I's Knight Tak'n. Watching has I days." she explained and tilted her head in the direction they would go. "Follow." she said and started her way to the training rooms. "Telling of why Jedi becoming?" she asked him.

Verus raised an eyebrow as he followed his new master towards the training room.

"I was a child soldier on the Outer Rim. The Jedi captured me during a raid on a small settlement. I was six at the time; it was my first and last battle. They found that I was Force sensitive, and offered me to join their precious Order. Since they offered me a safe place to sleep, and a hot meal that for once wasn't laced with drugs, I said yes." He shrugged.

"At first I was planning to run away once I'd had a few decent meals, but after a while, my gut feeling told me I had found my place in life, so I ended up sticking around after all."

"Good." she said and lead him inside a large training room. "Sword fighter, talents lie within you." she spoke, "Though, senses of youring are horrid." she told him, "Lacking seeing within the Force." Rehni took a seat on the floor, and gestured for him to do also, "Senses, by the Force, follow it, don't resist it." she told him.

Verus looked, as usual, cold and distanced, while sitting down in a meditative position opposite his new Jedi master. He removed his sword, placing it on his right side. He then replied, with a wry, cynical smile:

"The Force may be strong, but it is also volatile - unpredictable. Since I first joined the Jedi, I've heard nothing but the dangers of falling to the Dark Side. I do not want my life to depend on something so unreliable. With my own skill, my gut feeling and my senses of perception, I know at least that my life is in my own hands."

"Force is-ing greater than us." she explained, "Controling not, impossible." she explained studying her padawan, at one point in time she had those same thoughts, it was hard to unlearn them. "Understanding I does," she stated, "Thinking ever thought-ing where gut intuition come from?"

Verus went silent for a moment at her words.
"Are you saying the Force speaks to me through my gut feeling?" He frowned, considering what she had said. It made sense when he thought about it. The Force was known to guide Force sensitive people. Gut feeling was what most others relied on. Verus' gut feeling had always been highly fine-tuned, but he'd never really thought about the source of its accuracy, until now.

He looked up.
"But if I can't control the Force, how can I stay away from the Dark Side? Doesn't that mean, sooner or later I'm doomed to fall?" He made an annoyed sound. "I'd rather cut myself off from the Force altogether, than to let something like that happen."

"No, numbering one: Force canning not be of-ing controlled. Tis ofing tis own, does whating it wants. Thoses falls to dark side, trying to controling it. They lose controlling, they fall. Learning to accepting the Force is whating is." Explained Rehni, "Whispering it doesing. Seeing whats notting seeing. Hearing whats notting hearing, Feeling whats notting feeling. Controlling not the Force, controlling yourself. Controlling self, keeping mind clearing, easier thinking, telling you whating lies ahead."
The knight explained to her student hoping his thoughts of hopelessly failing to the dark side would change.

Verus nodded slowly as he listened to her. His face was still as cold and serious as always. "I understand." He said. "I've always been Force sensitive. But I've never been particularly eager to learn to feel the Force. I've always rejected it, in fact." He looked sideways, shrugging.

"However, if it can give me an advantage, make me stronger...give me an edge in battle...then I will do my best to accept the Force." He looked at the woman with slightly narrowed eyes. "Teach me, master. Please." He said.

((Sorry for the delay, I've been out sick D: ))

The knight nodded, she was please with his response; she pulled out a blindfold and handed it to him, "On it must seeing through Force." she said, then stood up, "Deception through eyes, seeing one wants others don't want. Covering ofing eyes, then walking ofing around."

(No problem. I've been a bit busy myself as well, so no worries. ;) )

Verus looked at the blindfold for a moment, before reaching out and taking it. With a glance at his master, he tied it around his head, covering his eyes, allowing him to see nothing of his surroundings. He listened to his gut feeling. It told him what to do. As he stood up, he relaxed, took a deep breath, and ignored his hearing, trying his best to feel the surroundings, not through his instincts and five senses, but through the Force.

But he didn't feel anything. As he tried to move around, his body moved of its own, raising his arms, as if trying its best not to walk into anything.

"This is going to take a lot of work, master..." He muttered matter-of-factly.

"Practicing not we are?" she replied, "Listening," the knight hid her foot steps in the Force and started walking around her padawan, "Seeing, sensing am I where?" she asked him, "Following me." she explained. She waited until he could sense her presence in the Force, she wanted him to use the Force to see his surroundings.
