Name: Va'zlek

Biology: The Va'zlek are a species of humanoid arthropods which bare many biological similarities to crabs and other crustaceans. Va'zlek have cone shaped heads and posses four eyes which pigmentation ranges from dark red to bright orange. Their exoskeleton, which color is comprised of pale blues grays and greens, is layered and segmented at the joints. If their exoskeleton is damaged or as the ages Va'zlek it is frequently molted in order to form and repair a harder shell. Their arms and legs are similarly clad in the same layered exoskeleton ending in thick jointed hands and feet. Adult males typically weigh about 250lbs un-molted and measure up to be between 6'3 and 6'7. Adult females typically weigh about 170lbs un-molted and measure up to be between 5'10 and 6'2. Males are generally larger and stronger than their female counterparts and display the same level of sexual dimorphism as most species in the galaxy do. Va'zlek reach adult maturation at age 16 and have a typical lifespan of about 88 years.

Subspecies: No

Sentient: Yes

Breeding: Va'zleks, like most arthropodal species, reproduce by laying eggs. Before the Va'zlek developed incubators, usually 35 to 90 eggs are laid in a pool of water heated by underwater hot springs. These "spawn pools" serve as a safe place for Va'zlek eggs to hatch in a healthy manner. After the female laid the eggs the male would then fertilize them. The incubation period ranges from 55 to 65 days after which the young hatch and resemble four inch long shrimp. The newly hatched Va'zlek are left in the pool to cannibalize the weaker young until only a few remain. By this time the surviving Va'zlek have adopted a humanoid figure and are removed from the spawn pool.

As Va'zlek culture is largely clan based many families choose to have their spawn pools located in the same area which has been known to led to disputes regarding individual possession of children.

Strengths: Va'zlek keeping with their peoples martial traditions are strong and do not tire easily making them on par with with other lumbering races of the galaxy such as Wookies or Trandoshans.

Weaknesses: The Va'zlek clan based system of government has been ingrained deeply into their minds and as a result are prone to infighting. Va'zlek are highly territorial both as a clan and as a species as a whole, xenophobia and ignorance is rampant among the population. It is very rare for a Va'zlek to be born with force sensitivity since most of the population with high midichlorian counts were exterminated.

Diet: Va'zlek are carnivores whose main diet consists of aquatic fish which are frequently raised in large farms and terrestrial mammals that are hunted for sport. Plant based drinks and alcoholic beverages, while unable to be digested and serve little to no nutritional purposes, are common in addition to traditional drinks of blended internal organs and animal nectar similar to honey seasoned with various spices.

Behavior/temperament: Va'zlek culture is deeply rooted in martial tradition and as a result aggression, short temper, and blood feuds are a common sight amongst competing clans. Debates and arguments are usually settled with hand to hand combat or money. Male and female Va'zlek are equally ranked in intellect and behavior.

Communication: Va'zlek vocalize by forcing air from their lungs through a series of vocal folds in order to produce sound. Because of their isolationist policies many Va'zlek only speak their main language although it is not uncommon for basic to be learned. Many Va'zlek exiles speak Basic

Culture: Va'zlek culture is patriarchal, clan based, and deeply rooted in martial traditions since before they left their home world. They believe that the ability to project force is of paramount importance in order to safeguard their way of life. Despite this they prefer to be left alone within their own borders.

The Va'zlek home world, A'belarr, is mostly divided into 37 sections that have each been claimed by a different clan with the exception of the planetary capital and a few rural areas.

The Va'zlek government is comprised of the head member from each of the 37 tribes which operate much like a council and meet in the planet's Capitol in order to dictate policy and to settle infighting between clans. Each clan is led by a patriarch who is chosen via a gladiatorial match in which the victor is declared the head until he dies or is ousted for doing something dishonorable. Females are prohibited from holding office.

History: Va'zlek history has been pockmarked with many brutal wars and extermination campaigns waged for honor, resources, racial purity, or simply because the head of a clan insulted another. Eventually a coalition of clans banded together in an effort to wipe those they deemed "ethnically impure" off of the planet, they succeeded and formed the only lasting Va'zlek empire to date. The Va'zlek are largely insensitive to the force since most force wielding Va'zlek were hunted into extinction for practicing "witchcraft".

The Va'zlek have only been a space fairing civilization for the past two hundred years and have adopted an isolationist policy towards dealing with outsiders, often shooting encroaching ships without warning. Fearing an alien invasion that has yet to come, the remaining tribes banded together and begrudgingly shared their technology in order to safeguard their borders.

Planet: A'belarr is an aquatic world which is dotted with many large islands and sub oceanic volcanoes and lies deep within the unknown region.

Technology: Considered antiquated for the most part by galactic standards, Va'zlek technology was largely conceived in order to fight other Va'zlek. In their underwater cities Va'zlek employ a variant of the Gungan Hydrostatic Bubble technology in order to keep water out of their habitats.

Intent: I wanted to add and play a different non human race that to me was aesthetically pleasing. I also wanted to play an exiled pilot.
