DESCRIPTION​

The Vanguard-class assault gunship is a small but heavily armed warship manufactured by the Corellian Engineering Corporation. Meant to hit well above its weight class, Vanguards are heavily armored, heavily shielded and heavily armed; a handful of these craft could make trouble for a frigate or even a light cruiser, although they do require starfighter escort to do the job properly.

The Vanguard is a horseshoe-shaped sub-corvette, 47 meters in length, with a crew of 6, plus 6 passengers, 20 tons of cargo and 2 weeks worth of consumables. Armament consists of a mix of weapons, including a pair of dual medium laser turrets, a pair of fixed medium turbolasers and a quartet of proton torpedo tubes. With these, a Vanguard will attack capital ships and other targets in blazing passes, trusting to the heavy shields and duranium armor to shrug off any return fire.

Vanguard-class assault gunships are a prized component of system defense navies throughout the galaxy. They are sometimes stolen and used by pirates as well.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Gunships such as the Vanguard are not considered full capital ships, but their high firepower-to-mass ration requires extensive licensing in most systems.
